American Idol: Where the girls aren’t

It’s been clear the last couple weeks that this is probably the men’s year to shine on “Idol,” a notion that was confirmed Wednesday with an all-female bottom three. I thought Kristy Lee Cook was, well, cooked (she got my lowest score), but I’m not heartbroken that Amanda Joplin, er, I mean Overmyer, got the boot.
She was tied with Brooke White in my personal bottom three. Still, I predicted that White and Ramiele Malubay would be joining Overmyer on those uncomfortable stools.
I got a bit scared when it looked like Chikezie might be sitting on loser row. I’m telling you, he’s my fave pick behind David Cassidy, er, I mean, Archuleta.
So is there any female performer that’s got a chance? Yep. Syesha Mercado. I know she’s been close to being eliminated, but she’s got the look and the voice to be a star. It’s a matter of her picking the right songs and putting her nerves on hold. I’m rooting for her.
What I’m not excited about is how Wednesday’s hour seems more and more packed with former “Idol” contestants performing and really transparent ad placements. Isn’t there enough commercial breaks to begin with??? I guess die-hard Idol worshippers are interested to see the contestants “Behind the scenes” of a Ford commercial. If you are one of them, please, please, please, get a life.
Speaking of a life, it’s time for me to check in for results of “Big Brother” and “Girlalicious.”
