Top 10 Fall season questions

If it wasn’t for the Olympics and those conventions, we could start the networks’ fall season right now. Alas, we’ve still got a month and a half to learn who’s whispering sweet nothings in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s ear, why Bob Saget won’t tell his kids the identity of their mother and which cast members of “Brothers & Sisters” are actually related.

Still, it’s not too early to ponder these 10 most tantalizing questions:

1. Will “ER” be watchable in its final year? I have taken sick leave of the once can’t-miss series, but I’m tempted to check in for the final 20 or so episodes, if only to see how newcomer Angela Bassett fits in and if the producers will dare introduce the ghost of Dr. Mark Green during February sweeps.

2. Will “Desperate Housewives” work five years in the future? The time jump in the final minutes of last season’s episode made me think the show made a huge mistake. Now that I’ve talked to the cast members and creator Marc Cherry, I believe the show made…a tiny mistake.

3. Will “90210″ make us all want to go back to the Peach Pit? Probably not, but the news that Shannon Doherty will play the school’s musical director has me downright giddy.

4. Can House and Wilson find true love again? The best man-crush on TV suffered a severe blow at the end of last season in one of the year’s finest two hours of drama. It’ll be a bumpy ride back, but these two were made for each other.

5. Will Michael Scott find true love? If anyone can handle him, it’s Oscar nominee Amy Ryan who will return for multiple episodes of “The Office.” She’s terrific.

6. Will “Grey’s Anatomy” kill off Izzie? Katherine Heigl’s off-set comments may lead producers to decide she’s more trouble than she’s worth. Hey, Katie, if you really want off the show, just spit out a few anti-gay comments!

7. Will “Life on Mars” ever hit the air? The remake of the British hit has had more problems than Apollo 13. With just a couple months to air, they still haven’t cast a leading man. Abort, abort!

8. Just how crazy will the last season of “Boston Legal” be? On a scale of 1 to 10? We’re guessing an 18.

9. Will “Pushing Daisies” be a hit? This dramedy has all the making of being a critic’s darling than nobody actually watches.

10. How will “CSI” deal with the departure of William Petersen? Very carefully. He’s skedded to leave by the 10th episode. Look for a big-name actor to take his place. Big name.
