More cuts at Clear Channel stations

Word is that Clear Channel is going through another series of cuts - and, yes - it will effect a number of local on-air personalities. CC bigwigs, both locally and nationally, aren’t confirming any names, but the website, redandnater.com, claims that the following are out: Business office: John Szanowski, Keith Burke, Kathy Johnson. On air, Fish K102, Langdon Perry, Danielle Hitchings KTLK, Lois Mae KOOL 108. Also, my colleague Judd Zulgad just talked to KFAN’s Joe Anderson, best known as Dan Barriero’s sidekick. Here’s Judd’s notes:
Anderson said the decision actually works out well for him because he already owns a St. Paul-based hardwood floor refinishing franchise known as Buff & Coat and has other business opportunities. “This works out well for me,” Anderson said. “About a year ago I saw the writing on the wall [at Clear Channel] and bought this hardwood floor franchise. It’s been more successful than I had hoped it would to the point where I wanted to commit more time to it so everything worked out. I get a severance, they cleared me out and hopefully someone got to keep their job. But I was ready to go and Clear Channel was very generous.” Anderson, 42, had two stints at KFAN with time as the media relations manager at Canterbury Park in between. He also had been part of the Vikings pregame show on KFAN and the team’s radio network.
Clear Channel will be issuing a press release around 2 p.m. CST. Check here for updates.
UPDATE: According to Radio-info.com, this round of cuts comes to about 590 people. That makes 2,440 jobs this year out of 900 radio stations - about 12 percent of the workforce.
