Shocking confession #2

It wasn’t until I relayed this story to a friend of mine at dinner this weekend and she said “I haven’t read that on your blog” that I realized how embarrassed I am by this blunder.

But maybe some of you will find solace in my family’s financial folly and will feel compelled to share your own.

We took the kids– both under 3– to Chicago over Labor Day. The trip overall was fantastic. But we did learn one very important lesson. Do not convince yourself that your young kids can handle a fancy steak restaurant for dinner, even if it is your wedding anniversary and you have a hankering for a hunk of meat.

Usually a careful orderer, I misunderstood the price of the surf that went with my turf. And the turf itself was a special with an unlisted price.

Long, miserable story– with countless belly flops under the table for spoons, toys, and nuks and multiple trips to the bathroom– short, we spent more money than on dinner than we had in our lives.

Can you guess how much?
