Should we be paying the taxman?

With a week to go until taxes are due, this is when I get bored. The same tips have been shared over and over again– from detailed stories in trade journals to two item quickies in lifestyle magazines. I know I’m a guilty contributor to tax overload, although I try my best to share new tax tips and not put you to sleep while getting the facts straight.
Thank goodness for fellow reporter Randy Furst’s story about the 400 to 500 Minnesotans who don’t pay taxes for ideological reasons. It’s a great read and a welcome twist on this seasonal topic.
Here’s the list of frivolous tax arguments that was mentioned in the story, featuring claims like “the filing of a tax return is voluntary” and “the Internal Revenue Service is not an agency of the United States.”
Not only that. A bill was recently introduced in the U.S. Senate to repeal the income tax and defund the IRS. What is your wager that that will pass?
