“Free” credit reports and “Forg” t-shirts

Finally, a Consumer Reports study confirms what I’ve unfortunately known all along: There are plenty of fake “free” credit report web sites out there. They cropped up as soon as our right to a free credit report each year from each of the three credit bureaus became law.
The only place for your truly free credit report is: www.annualcreditreport.com.
But I’ve heard from scores of people over the years who somehow ended up at a suspiciously similar named site and prompted to buy something or pay a fee.
Annualusacreditreport.com anyone?
It reminds me of one of my all-time favorite Sesame Street skits (watch it).
Kermit the Frog goes into a t-shirt shop to pick up a shirt that says “Kermit the Frog,” only to be presented with a t-shirt saying “Kermit the Gorf.”
Now that you’ve watched it: Anyone think Kermit has a Minnesotan accent?
“I’m Kermit the Frog and I want my free annual credit report!”
