Property tax refund sighting
Posted on September 21st, 2007 – 6:13 PMBy Kara McGuire
I logged into my bank account yesterday to pay a bill and found my $115 property tax refund smiling back at me.
Want to know when you’ll see your refund? That’s what Where’s My Refund? is for.
Have you missed the filing deadline? Don’t despair! You’re late, but not really:
Filing due date is August 15, 2007. Returns can be filed up to a year after the due date. After that, you cannot claim a refund. The deadline for the 2006 return is August 15, 2008. The due date for the 2005 property tax return was August 15, 2006 but you have until August 15, 2007 to file.
What a great example of way too complicated for no reason tax code. Why not just make it due one year later? I know I still would have filed mine the second I had all the data. Who doesn’t want their refund asap? The Minnesota Department of Revenue has the skinny on property tax refunds. Posted here just in time for Friday night light reading.
While we’re on the subject of property taxes, I was about to pay my property tax (Oct. 15th is the due date) with a credit card to take advantage of my rewards. Ramsey County wanted to charge me a 2.25% fee to pay by credit card and a buck to pay by e-check. Criminy.
I thought about calculating whether the rewards I’d get would be worth the fee but I don’t like math. And I was annoyed. So I pulled out the checkbook and will mail it.
Same thing when I tried to renew my drivers license tabs today. They wanted $1.75 from me to pay online. C’mon, save some trees people. Let me pay my bills online for free.
