Personal finance is going green this month.

First, Kiplinger is out with its Green Issue– chock full of tips about saving the planet and some money.

Then Bankrate just published its Living Green Saving Green, with 153 ways to go green.

If you’re like me, you try your best to be mindful of your impact on the earth, but aren’t perfect. I drive a minivan, but usually not very far. I love the farmers that provide me a box of delicious produce all summer but love that hamburger-peddling clown who lives under the golden arches too. I’m all for trees, but I like my glossy catalogs and prefer paper credit card statements.

While the topic is a bit overdone lately, I found some of the tips to be new and helpful.

For instance, Bankrate has as story about why recycling is cool and reusing is not, even though reusing is better for the earth and our bottom lines. If enough people read that before the holidays, maybe they’ll be more forgiving they ever learn their gift from me was a thoughtful regift.

There are too many good tips to mention here– from saving up to $250 by packing package-free lunches to getting tax breaks for energy efficient home improvements (some of which expire at the end of this year– here’s the IRS link for details).

Kiplinger has a story about carbon offsets and “green” stock picks, such as Covanta Energy, a company that operates waste-to-energy facilities around the country, including one near the future site of the Twins stadium.

Have any good green guides to share?
