Note to PR people out there: Use the words “cute” and “tax” in your e-mail’s subject line and personal finance reporters will open it.

At least I did. I like deductions, but I can’t say I’ve ever thought of them as cute.

What I want to know is why they didn’t come up with this idea 4 years ago– both my kids were born in December.
