My credit score beats Warren Buffett’s

This just in from Fair Isaac, the hometown makers of the credit score.

Investment guru Warren Buffett, the world’s richest man, has a FICO score of 718, as reported by Fortune. That’s slightly below the U.S. median score of 723.

When I checked in January, my score was in the 780’s. Check out this free and in my experience fairly accurate credit score estimator.

This topic just came up last weekend, when my father-in-law brought up his preference for using cash. That moved into a conversation about credit scores and money behaviors and how a credit score is not the end-all be-all gauge of a person’s financial health.

Part of the reason for this is that the credit score does not take wealth or income into account.

As Fair Isaac points out: “A minimum wage earner can have a better FICO score than the world’s richest man by paying bills on time and limiting the use of credit cards with high balances. Or, as Fortune indicates, might it be an error on his credit report that is dragging it down?”
