If you're looking for shipping discounts or other outstanding deals on online shopping, check out http://www.momsview.com -- an incredible resource of publicly available free shipping and discount codes for hundreds of popular websites. I'm not affiliated with them, but have saved serious cash with Nike, Eastbay and others through the site.

I've learned that if you want/expect a discount from a company as compensation for poor service or a substandard product you have to ask.

Contact them by email and phone and be specific as to the problem you encountered and what you expect.

I didn't get this email, but when I ordered something from JCrew online a couple weeks ago, they flashed an apology screen at me and then gave me a free shipping code to use on my purchase that day. It was something, and I used it! :)

I love that they have a "forward to a friend" link! Your friend doesn't even get a "personal" apology, and you're just the messenger... isn't that sooo junior high? :)

The companies don't care. They figure you will come back regardless. I had an issue with a fridge that was purchased from Sears. It was 3 months old and it stopped working. It took 6 weeks to get a replacement. All sears did was say I should have bought their in store warranty, and they would have brought me a new fridge right away. Needless to say I don't buy anything from them anymore. But they don't care.
