The U.S. is going broke.

Our nation’s debt has been a popular topic for documentaries lately. Remember In Debt We Trust and Maxed Out?
Well, tomorrow I.O.U.S.A. “the story of America’s four key deficits – budget, savings, balance of payments and leadership” is opening. It’s a documentary about our nation’s bajillion dollar deficit (OK it’s really just $52,700,000,000,000), our ailing legacy programs (Social Security and it’s bed-ridden relative Medicare) and how our kids are basically going to pay for our fiscal responsibility for their lives and their kids’ lives and maybe even their kids’ lives.
Anyway, it is showing at several theaters tomorrow at 7 p.m. And after the movie, there will be a 45- minute live panel discussion simulcast at the theaters featuring Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, William Niskanen, chairman of the CATO Institute, Bill Novelli, CEO of AARP, Pete Peterson, senior chairman of The Blackstone Group and the Pete Peterson Foundation, and Dave Walker, former U.S. Comptroller General (who visited Minneapolis with his Fiscal Wake-Up Tour in 2007). According to the press release, “the discussion will explore the growth of the national debt and what can be done to make the nation more fiscally sound.”
The event is $18, pricier than a normal movie ticket. Still, I hope to see you at the Rosedale AMC at 7 p.m. It’s also playing at these locations.

I gonna check it out this weekend
You think? Anyone who hasn’t seen this comming, has had there head buried in the sand. It’s never going to change, because we have no idea how to spend our money. Sending billions of OUR dollars to Alaska, so they can build a bridge to a town of 500 people, is not good bussiness sense. Savy? we spend mony like that right and left, and then whine we have no more. Then form more commitees to decide who gets a bigger salary, and where else we can foolishly spend. Whine, squeeze the people, spend, repeat.
Does anyone have a comprehensive listing site about $$ related documentaries. Awhile back there was Affluenza. I’d love a list so I can make them mandatory watching and extra credit watching for my students. Where do I go to find this list? Much appreciated… and we can’t hide from the fact that no one saves in this nation and we consistently borrow billions from Japan. And we still call ourselves a Super Power? The national debt clock is ticking… Thank you babyboomers for this beautiful legacy. And yes everyone should be talking about it, daily.
There was an interesting op-ed in the wall street journal this AM about how the gov’t can get out of debt. I only scanned the article, but the idea is that the gov’t makes payments on the debt while allowing inflation which effectively lowers the balance - you pay back debt with dollars that are worth less than the ones initially borrowed.
That makes me think we should stop making extra payments on the mortgage…
The sky is falling!!!
