Items: Bye-bye Linens n Things and watch for credit card rewards deals

I recently discovered the pure joy of a cold glass of ice water. I used to be one of those people who rarely had ice in the house, and as such, I had no ice trays. But then we started buying bagged ice and if there’s one thing that you really don’t need to pay for, ice would be it.
So on Friday, when I was out and about, I noticed that Linens N Things was finally bought by a liquidator and is marking down items to reduce inventory before going out of business. They have ice trays there.
Right now the discount is small– between 10 and 30 percent. They aren’t taking coupons and all sales are final. But if you’re a going out of business vulture that lays in wait for the major discounts, keep your eyes open. And use your gift cards if you have them. The clerk told me they are still accepting them.
I blogged recently about how I’m still getting a lot of zero percent credit card offers in the mail. Well, now I’m getting notes from my existing credit cards offering me bonus points and other perks. Don’t let such bonuses pass you by.
For example, Discover’s get more 5 percent cash back categories for the rest of the year are groceries, restaurants, movie theaters and movie rentals. You need to eat.
Spend $750 or more on electonics between now and year-end with my Chase Freedom card and I can choose 3 percent cash back on the purchase, a $25 gift card or a 3-bureau credit report and score.
American Express Blue just offered my husband double points through the end of the year, which can be redeemed for gift cards. I usually keep cards from The Gap and Barnes and Noble on hand to buy birthday gifts.
What deals are you seeing out there? I know we’re all more observant as we are more thoughtful about spending. Share you tips!
