Texas and Ohio look like familiar stories

February 25th, 2008 – 4:59 AM by Dennis J. McGrath

With two big states voting a week from Tuesday, it’s looking like the same old story: Hillary Rodham Clinton’s massive lead in the polls has all but disappeared.

That’s the situation in Texas and Ohio, two of the four states voting on March 4.

If Clinton can’t pull off wins in at least one of those states, it’s hard to see how she could continue running.

In Ohio last year, Clinton’s lead over Obama typically stood in the low- to mid-20 point range. Now, the last four polls have shown nearly identical results — Clinton leading by between 7 and 9 points.

In Texas, it’s even closer. The last four polls show Clinton with leads as high as 5 points, and as low as 1 point.

Certainly in Texas, and perhaps in Ohio, too, Clinton’s lead doesn’t seem large enough to hold off the waves of Obama supporters who surge to the polls on Election Day.

Texas has 193 pledged delegates at stake and Ohio has 141. Rhode Island (21 delegates) and Vermont (15), also are voting that day.

Currently, Obama holds about a 100-delegate lead over Clinton: 1,361 to 1,267, when Superdelegate endorsements are included.

Although narrow wins in Texas and Ohio by Obama may only widen the delegate gap over Clinton slightly, his repeated wins and his growing base of support probably would be enough to force Clinton to concede.

“If Clinton can’t pull off wins in at least one of those states, it’s hard to see how she could continue running.”

She has to win both, convincingly, if she wants to make a credible argument to become the nominee. As Dennis notes, slight wins won’t give her any significant delegate gains, which means its that much more unlikely she’ll be able to catch up in future races. The writing is on the wall, the question is when she’ll bother to read it.

Good morning bsimon,

I’ve cut and pasted the question you have yet to answer.

So, bsimon,

If you decided to endorse a white candidate, (let’s not even mention political ties), and the church he was married in, and still belonged to had a mission statement saying they are “unashamedely white etc…, you would be fine with that?

Please just yes or no.

If you choose to ramble on, you will solidify my point.

Hi bsimon,

Still waiting for your reply…..

Mr Grant, have you yet had a chance to research the vote counts & verbiate? I await your insightful commentary with baited breath!

As expected, you continue to avoid answering a simple question.
The hypocrisy is so obvious that even you bsimon must see it.

Let me take a wild stab. You live in south Minneapolis, drive a foreign car (most likely a Subaru), and make less than 50k a year. You consider yourself a “victim” for some strange reason when in fact, you are simply too lazy or not enough of a man to take a stance on a issue for fear of upsetting anyone.

Get back in the fetal position under your Wellstone! blanket.

Hypocrite.

Bobby, one out of three ain’t bad! You oughta get a job at the carnival playing ‘carnack’.

It’s comical that you think you can predict a person’s demographic makeup based on what you read on a blog. You’re at 33 1/3% right now, care to keep going?

Robert Grant says:

Sure.

You’re still a hypocrite. Answer the simple question, and I’ll give you more.

It’s the car, isn’t it.

bsimon says:

wrong again. I don’t own a car.

Robert Grant says:

It’s a Subaru.

Answer that and I’ll tell you the color.

bsimon says:

Wrong again! I have a domestic pickup & a Jeep. But the Jeep doesn’t see much road use anymore, as its geared more for offroad performance.

Robert Grant says:

Should we just agree that you refuse to answer the question concerning Obama’s church and it’s mission statement?

It’s really quite simple….yes or no.

bsimon says:

February 25th, 2008 at 2:20 pm

I admit, I did intentionally mislead you with the “I don’t own a car” thing - but its true. The DOT categorizes the Jeep as a Utility vehicle & the pickup as a truck.

Stereotypes don’t always hold up to reality, don’t you think?

Now that you know the ‘car’ question, care to take a stab at the other two? Your odds are up to 50-50 now.

Robert, no response?

Let me rephrase. What’s more horrifying, that I might be your neighbor or that I might make more than you do?
