A quick update: Sidney Ponson and Johan Santana just unpacked their bags at camp. There’s been a lot of speculation about what shape Ponson is in (some rumors had him tipping the scale at 280 last year). Ponson doesn’t look that heavy. But I’m not saying he’s Santana either. There will be more on Sidney as camp continues.

Sidney seems eager to have a conversation with my colleague Joe Christensen, who covered Ponson in Baltimore. Wonder what that’s all about….. 

 

Santana, with three of his buddies in tow, had a big smile on his face as he talked with teammates. Spring training always is such a relaxed time.

On another note, if you’re looking for me to rub the weather in your faces, it ain’t happening - yet. It rained on Thursday. It was 45 degrees this morning. It’s one thing to be cold when you expect it (Minnesota), but when you expect it to be warm and it’s not, that’s aggravating. In past spring trainings the only day I’ve worn pants is when I fly down here. I’ve worn jeans for two straight days now, and I’m outraged……
