Righthander Sidney Ponson has obtained a visa and can now pitch in spring training games.
Ponson, with the help of his agent, Barry Praver, was able to go to the Bahamas to pick up the visa.
“I appreciate Barry Praver’s appetite for getting this thing done,” Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. “He did a heck of a job in getting it.”
Now Ponson, who was signed a minor league contract but will earn $1 million if he makes the team, can now officially compete for a spot in the rotation.
Ponson still will pitch on Monday in a, `B,’ game at the Lee County Sports Complex. If he had went through the Dominican Republic to get his visa, he would not have been able to pitch until Mar. 10 at the earliest and the Twins weren’t too fired up about that.
