Live from the Airport..

I’m at Southwest Florida International Airport, waiting for my flight home to board. It’s been a busy spring down here but it’s time to cover some real games.
I urge all of you to curl up with our special section that’s hitting the newsstands now. The theme is baseball around the world, and Joe C. and I conducted interviews with people who were all over the planet in order to bring you the fascinating story of how this great game is evolving in front of our eyes.
I also want to thank you for the great feedback and the attention you all are giving these blogs. We’re not sure how the regular season will work or what stuff I’ll dream up to throw out for discussion. Sometimes I may only be able to blog once every three days. Sometimes I’ll blog three times a day. I don’t know if I’ll be able to invest the time into this as my colleague Mike Russo does (he’s nuts). But I’ll have my spurts.
Anyway, NWA Flight 1115 is getting ready to board. Gotta go.

La Velle, thanks for the great month. Look forward to some good blogs as the season starts. Keep this blog going and Fran and Dragon will start exchanging Christmas cards. My favorite aspect of these blogs are the different memories everyone brings to the table. The obscure stats and crazy stories make this a fun place to hang out. Looking forward to more of the same as the season begins.
La Velle, I’ve always found it hard to leave Ft Myers. When it gets near 90 degrees, I’ve had it. But, it’s cold back here! The drive seems longer every year too, so I took 4 days. It’ll take you 4 hours. They say spring travels north 11 miles a day, so it could be awhile before it warms up here.
It’ll be warming up in the dome though. The guys survived without any serious injuries. The fun is about to begin. This should be an interesting year, with all the teams in the division seemingly improved. Only one will come out on top. Injuries during the season will play a role in that outcome. I like our chances.
I listened to sports radio in the KC area driving thru. They seem to think the Royals can improve by 10 games this season, and are excited that they are moving in the right direction. With the Indians improved, 90 wins could be enough to take the division. Might as well get our 1st tommorrow!
Thanks again LaVelle! I think the division is going to be incredibly tough. KC & Cleveland picked up what hurt them the most last year in relievers, Detriot i think won’tbe as good as last year. The Twins and Sox will battle for the title. KC scares me because if Dotel can save some of those game that they let slip away after the 7 inning liike last year, then they have a good offense. 90 wins takes the division.

I think 90 wins will get the Twins into the playoffs, and as Danube Darin posted above, it may win the division. So many things went right for the Twins in the last two thirds of the season. It is hard to think their run of good luck will continue. I think it will be a four-team race into September and the team that gets good fortune then will win.
