Herb Carneal, a Twins radio voice since 1961, passed away this morning at his home in Minnetonka due to congestive heart failure.
“This is a sad day for the Minnesota Twins organization and millions of baseball fans across the Upper Midwest.” Twins president Dave St. Peter said in a release. “Herb Carneal’s voice was the signature element of Twins baseball for multiple generations of fans.”
Carneal, 83, been battling various health problems in recent years. It was just last week it was learned that Carneal would not be able call the Twins home opener against Baltimore tomorrow. Carneal was given the Ford C. Frick Award in 1996 for broadcasting excellence.
