Joe Mauer came to the park feeling good, but he hasn’t been activated yet.
A bunch of guys are out doing early work. Many players are around the cage, practicing their bunts. I’m more interested in the drive-the-ball-into-the-gaps practice.
I plan on blogging something this weekend about the conspiracy that is the Bat-Girl retirement. Stay tuned for more..

I like this lineup. I would like it more if Mauer was 2 moving Cirillo to 6th or 7th. Good luck tonight boys.

I am most interested in the Batgirl conspiracy theory as well. She peeked into a game thread I dedicated to her.
Why have people been calling for the return of Shannon Stewart? He played as many games all of last year as he already has so far this year; he was too hurt to play, and we really don’t have the space on our roster for yet another guy who can’t really hit, can’t really field, and can’t really run. Doesn’t anyone remember his foot problems? There really wasn’t any indication that those were going to go away.
Oh yeah, and he only had 8 extra base hits in 44 games last year. That’s not exactly an offensive powerhouse. Lew Ford already has 2 in 9 games. Jason Tyner has 5 in 30 games. Jason Kubel has 11 in 38 games.
Shannon Stewart would not “save” this team. He’d be another Ford/Tyner, except with worse injuries.
Shannon Stewart contributed well to past Twins teams. He is not the answer to our problems.
I think that Kubel is the guy who might have the best chance of producing in left field. I am waiting for his coming-out as a Twins hitter. Morneau came through, so why not Kubel. [This might be wishful thinking.]
Kubel will heat up if given the chance on a daily basis. I hope (and doubt) he gets a chance to face the 2 Chi-Sox lefties. It’s not like our right-handers have been tearing it up against thjem anyway. Let’s see what he can do.
Punto still not performing at the plate. Nick, there is no 10th hole buddy.

Big win for the Twins tonight. Glad to see Cuddyer is heating up. If the Twins can get 5+ innings and 3 runs from Baker every start, that should put the Twins in position to win most nights.
Let me pound this into your head. Mauer is a 3 hitter. Mauer is a 3 hitter. Best hitter hits third, period.

Not sure why it always has to be about “defending” a player or ripping on another player to “prop up” a favorite…

Why don’t you tell the Yankees that they’ve gotten it wrong all these years batting the future HOF Jeter in the 2 hole.
Are you implying that Mauer is somehow more special than a player like Jeter? Last I checked Jeter has shown more power throughout his career than Mauer, and except for ARod and Bernie at times, he has always been their best, most consistent hitter.
So, outside of being yet another ‘unwritten rule’ in a game that has many, why exactly wouldn’t/shouldn’t the Twins consider batting Joe second? Mauer has speed, can bunt and take a walk. He’s a disciplined hitter who would know when to set the table or drive the ball, based on the game situation.
Remember, it’s not about Joe’s stats. Nor is it about endlessly trying to jump-start players by inserting their anemic averages between Castillo and Mauer.
I’ll take a DYNAMIC order of Castillo/Mauer/Cuddyer/Morneau/Hunter as 1-5, and mix up the bottom four anyday.
Smallmarket, I like that 1-5, but I disagree with your assertion that their order can be mixed on any given day. Hunter hasn’t done well in the 3 spot, so 4 or 5 is for him. He seems to do better at 5 than at 4, so we should keep him there. Morneau is a classic cleanup hitter. Cuddyer seems to do better the higher he goes in the lineup, but I’d rather have Mauer on base in front of him.
I agree with you Sean. I was referring to mixing up spots 6-9 on a game-to-game basis until we see stability in those spots.

6-Kubel LF
7-Redmond DH
8-Punto/Cirillo 3B
9-Bartlett SS
…is what I personally wouldn’t mind. Of course, T.R. can’t make a trade for an impact 3B soon enough for me. That or let’s get a look at Tolbert and Oeltjen from AAA to start preparing these guys for the future. Did anyone take note that the Brewers, still in first, brought up Ryan Braun yesterday? At least some teams don’t tolerate .220 at the hot corner.

If we are going by your “unwritten” rules, then where is our pwr bat at 3B? Where is our DH? WIth this team Mauer should bat second.
