Trapped in Detroit!

Posted on July 29th, 2007 – 8:18 PM
By La Velle

Caught A 7:04 p.m. flight from Cleveland to Detroit, after a certain airline I’m not supposed to mention cancelled my original direct flight.

So I did the up-and-down to the Motor City. Guess what. My connecting flight to The Cities has been delayed FIVE times. Original departure time: 8:50 p.m.

New departure time: 11:00 p.m.

Anyway, how about Garza today? Started off with a strong fastball and then mixed in his other pitches. Reared back for some 96 funk when he needed to. He’s developing before our eyes.

I have doubts that this team can make the playoffs. They’ve just been too inconsistent for me. So I’m transitioning over to the mode where I’m looking at who can help this team in the future.

I have no idea what Terry Ryan has in mind before the trade deadline. He’s been pretty tight-lipped and defensive lately. But the 2008 Twins have a chance to be pretty good. The rotation will be more stable next year - the won’t have to go the reclamation route with veterans next year. Francisco Liriano should be able to contribute in some form next year, but will he have to change his delivery to cut out that whipping motion with his arm?

Think about spring training. Baker, Bonser, Garza, Slowey, Perkins, Duensing, Blackburn and Santana. (BTW, this is one reason why I would be willing to peel off one of these young arms in a deal to get a third baseman).

Anyway, don’t spend too much time lamenting about what could have been. It’s time to look at what could happen.

Morgan Ensberg for a Blackburn or Duensing or Korecky

Mark says:

Ensburg has been an ineffective hitter since the injury to his shoulder last year. His best days are gone.

That said, that sounds exactly like the type of hitter the Twins have signed in the past.

qualler says:

Ensberg, while probably a crappy overall choice, is now a free agent and at least has 7 HRs this year to go with his .240 batting average. Still an offensive improvement on Punto. Not that this type of move would even make a difference, but if he’s free, why not? Of course, that was what we also said about Bret Boone…

mh says:

July 29th, 2007 at 8:51 pm

Ensberg played in houston. short left field porch.

IMO. he isnt worth anthing.. Id rather see the kid Buscher get some playing time.
Ensberg is not the short term answer for the playoffs. and he definitly is not the long term answer.

since we couldnt get Wiggy, I say play the kid.

Josh Meyer says:

July 29th, 2007 at 8:52 pm

Ryan needs to add a bat, but I don’t think Ensberg is the answer. I would rather see us take a flyer on Branyan. Pedro Feliz might be a decent addition as well. He has been hot lately, and probably could be had for a lower level pitching prospect.

Brett says:

What about signing Mike Lowell in the offseason? He’s only making 8 mil, plus he can’t expect much of an increase with his age.
Or what about a run at Eric Byrnes if Hunter leaves? He’s a FA after this year and I haven’t heard much buzz around him. Could the twins land him if they run at him early?

Josh's Thoughts says:

July 29th, 2007 at 9:14 pm

Byrnes & Lowell would be great Brett.

Although, I think that Byrnes will get a big deal from either the Braves or Rangers, both who could be looking for CF’ers next season.

Lowell is more likely, but he’s having a big year this year and will likely get a nice contract offer from a team like the Padres.

Both would be nice additions though.

Not Terry Ryan says:

July 29th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

With Liriano - There seems to be this notion on many comments this summer that he will just be right back where he left off next season. I’m not so sure. He will have to change his delivery so it is not so violent…That delivery might not be so effective.

bigdawg says:

TR totally took the year off. With some fairly minor moves he could have made this team 5 games better. We essentially played with no DH this year. An AL average DH wins you 4-5 games by this point in the season. TR, you failed us. This team was close this year. Now do your job and set us up for next year. Doesn’t mean we are going to forget this season. You think Punto had a bad year, TR’s was worse.

Good to see that you’ve “seen the light” LaV(tre) and are thinking about the team’s future (Reusse’s gonna think it was because of him though). Unfortunately, Terry Ryan will probably use these last two victories as an excuse not to be sellers (anything to save his pride). Tim Kjurkian reported on ESPN radio today that the Braves have a lot of interest in Silva, but “…Ryan is hesitant to depart with him because of the effect it might have on contract negotiations with [Johan] Santana.” QOTN (question of the night): could Terry “Lobot” Ryan actually be so obtuse and hokie that he’d sacrifice what is best for the team because of his fear that Santana might get p.o.’d that his buddy was traded?!? What kind of asinine reason is that?

Yeah, it would have been nice to have seen Garza develop before our eyes from the get-go instead of having to endure watching Ortiz and Stay-Puft stay status quo.

Erik says:

July 29th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

To be honest, I think Buscher deserves a fair shot…he’s played in two games and has looked solid so far. It’s a sample size, but the kid deserves a shot. If he doesn’t get it now with this organization, when will he ever?

Also, I think the DH spot is the biggest concern right now. Rondell White is obviously not the answer…at least not right now…and if this team wants to contend right now, they had better look at other options.

A lineup of:

2b Castillo
SS Bartlett
C Mauer
RF Cuddyer
1B Morneau
CF Hunter
LF Kubel
DH Via Trade
3B Buscher

That’s not a bad lineup at all…and if the Twins can continue to get solid starts from their starters, they may be able to get back into things.

Dustin says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:00 pm

La Velle, I agree that we have to look for the future with the chances for this team to be VERY good in 2008. But TR has to be proactive. He should look to deal both Silva and Castillo for 2 pieces that can help. 2 things that I’d really like to see:

Trade 1:
Castillo plus a lower prospect for one of Milledge/Gomez/Martinez of the Mets, 3 very good OF prospects. Minaya loves Castillo and they don’t need all 3 of those guys. In fact, they really only need 1.

Carlos Silva plus a prospect (Duensing?) for Michael Bourn of Philadelphia. The kid can fly and will be a great leadoff hitter, and Philadelphia can afford to deal him (he’s available) as they need an innings-eater at the backend of the rotation. In the NL, Silva can be that.

That would set out OF/DH spots up very well for 2008. And we’d still have pieces to deal to solve the one remaining hole, 3b. You’d still have a choice of Perkins/Slowey/Boof/Baker/Blackburn to deal (2 of those guys).

And I’m not so sure we’re any WORSE in 2007 even. Punto and Casilla go and share 2b, and Slowey is up in the rotation. And you’ve upgraded DH and obtained a better off-day OF upgrade.

Bottomline; these 2 games are no reason to not be proactive for what’s best for the future of this team.

Jeremy Wieland says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

I’m no longer looking at Liriano as a top of the rotation guy. However, think of what he could do as a closer? 9th inning, 9 sliders and hit the showers. Better for his arm, and we have the depth to fill the other slots. It also makes Joe Nathan available for a trade.

Erik says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:07 pm

Terry Ryan has made it clear that Liriano will be a starter in 2008.

John says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:14 pm

Don’t get why everyone insists Liriano either can’t start any longer or is only to be considered a back-end of the rotation guy once he comes back. The surgery he had was TOMMY JOHN surgery…Tommy John wasn’t exactly a closer. Erik Bedard has the exact same surgery a few years ago and he’s gained a couple mph on his fastball and leads the majors in K’s this year. Liriano even at just 75% of what he use to be is still 280% better than 60% of the league…and 50% Liriano is approximately 365% better than Carlos “pass the Rolaids” Silva at 100%. So, trade Silva NOW!

Dustin says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

I agree John. In this day and age, I’m not too worried about Cisco for next season. He’s even going to have winter ball under his belt before the spring, so he should be sharp from the get-go time-wise. I’d be more worried about Crain right now than Cisco. Shoulder injuries are now just as tough, if not tougher, than elbow injuries to coem back from.

Also, I don’t think Cisco’s delivery is nearly as violent as some make it sound. It will have to be tweaked, sure, but his overall motion really isn’t bad at all.

I expect Cisco to be at least CLOSE to last year in 2008, and that has to be a scary sight for every team in baseball, paired with Santana and Garza.

Josh says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Tommy John surgery has a history of a very high success rate — in addition to Bedard, think Tommy John (duh), Smoltz, Rivera, etc.

There’s reason to be optimistic with Liriano.

Dustin says:

July 29th, 2007 at 10:46 pm

La Velle, what are your hunches on trading vets? Do you think Castillo and/or Silva could go for more immediate (2008) help while still trying for this year?

I was thinking about it; one way to solve the problem would be to trade a low prospect for Piazza, thus upgrading DH, while sending Castillo out for a piece with 2008 more in mind. (I’d trade Silva s well, but that’s just me). That way the money becomes pretty equal and you’ve still upgraded both this year AND next.

Piazza at DH and Punto/Casilla at 2b is much better to me than White at DH and Castillo at 2b.

jp says:

July 29th, 2007 at 11:19 pm

Piazza has made it fairly clear he doesn’t want to play here. Why would Oakland take a low prospect for him at this point?

Castillo and Silva re 2 month rentals. If you look at the lack of activity in MLB trades and what the market for rentals has been, I wouldn’t hold out to much hope for impact players or prospects. I think the off-season has more of a chance to improve for next year.

TwinsTerritory says:

July 29th, 2007 at 11:27 pm

I like that lineup Erik.

Also, someone mentioned some pretty good pitchers for Ensberg. He was DFA so the price will be low or teams will wait until he becomes a FA.

TwinsTerritory says:

July 29th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

Castillo hasn’t been bad this season.

EXP451 says:

July 29th, 2007 at 11:29 pm

Liriano might not be the pitcher that he was last year when he comes back, but the statistics show that almost all players that follow this procedure, and it’s rehab to the letter of the law come back more effective… I’m not a half full guy, not Terry Ryan behaving like Kevin McHale, Kevin McHale, and Brad Childress in places of power in Minnesota sports… but there is a distinct possibility that Liriano could actually be better next year than he was when he left. I mean it’s no sure shot, but it’s quite possible.

BC Beneke says:

July 29th, 2007 at 11:36 pm

(exp451 was senior moment, old handle)

With Ensberg’s career after his shoulder injury, I think offering even a B level prospect would be insane… He has not shown to be better than Busher. I like the idea of going after Lowell in the offseason, and even if the team is in the race now (which I don’t believe) it’s time to trade Nathan, Silva and Castillo even so.

Casilla and Punto can handle 2nd base for the rest of the season.

Any of our AAA pitchers can come up and be as consistant as Silva without trying too hard. I think the AA pitchers could come up and handle Silva’s spot.

BC Beneke says:

July 29th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

I like Castillo, but if he can bring us something for the future beyond this season we have to do it… His extra base ability is about gone, his legs don’t allow him to steal bases, and he’s having to take at least one game a week off now… doesn’t hustle out everything like he use to… we won’t resign him, so we have to trade him.

John says:

July 30th, 2007 at 12:35 am

This is from wikipedia on Tommy John surgery: “It is not uncommon today for pitchers to throw harder after the surgery than they did before the injury that caused the surgery to be necessary. However, this results not because of the surgery itself, but from the rigorous rehabilitation that ensues following surgery.”

As long as team physicians don’t give Liriano the wrong medicine like they did with Mauer and his knee problem a few years ago (Geezus Pohlad, quit hiring cheap med students to be your team physicians!)…Santana, Garza, Liriano, Bonser/Baker/Slowey et al., yeah, I can live with that.

jp says:

July 30th, 2007 at 1:16 am

How’d that surgery work out for Joe Mays?

Dustin says:

July 30th, 2007 at 1:23 am

1) Joe Mays was much older when he had it. The younger you are when you have the procedure done, you have a much better shot coming back strong.

2) Joe Mays never had 1/10th the talent that Liriano does. Mays was decent for 1-2 years but he was never worth that contract.

Smallmarket says:

Did anyone catch the Brewers phenomenal bullpen meltdowns the last few days? First their closer Cordero and then set-up man Turnbow. Doug Melvin has watched the Cubs get to a half game out in great part because the relievers combust at the worst times.

So how about the Twins act like sellers while improving the club through a win-win deal?

Joe Nathan, Jose Reyes, Jason Tyner, Trent Oeltjen and their pick of Korecky/Miller/DePaula for Carlos Villanueva, Manny Parra and Tony Gwynn Jr.

Shoot, if they need a sweetener to push them over the top as NL pennant favorites, how about adding Luis Castillo and Matt Tolbert to the deal for Rickie Weeks…

If you think Melvin wouldn’t do this, then consider that he just vastly overpaid to get pending free agent Scott Linebrink (giving up a top prospect in Will Inman). Nathan, Castillo, Reyes and Tyner deliver the Brewers to the promised land, and the Twins get a power lefty starter in Parra, a versatile start/long/middle righty in Villanueva, and a CF with a great glove, lots of speed and a decent stick in Gwynn. Current liability Weeks will recover eventually from his wrist problems and be a steady, if not great producer.

Also, with Brandon Roberts showing that he might jump over Denard Span, I’d consider putting Span in the deal over Oeltjen, if necessary. Oeltjen/Span and Tolbert give the Brewers the lefty bats for the future to balance out a mostly righty offense.

Hey, it’s a lazy summer dream and I’m willing to be creative, even if Terry Ryan remains true to form and does nothing. In less than two days we’re stuck with what we’ve got. Shoot the ideas down if you want, but come up with some of your own.

BTW: This is an altered repost from a few hours ago, minus the stat links that I think prevented it from going up.

it would seem relatively straight forward to be able to improve for this year and 08. Trade silva + minor league pitcher and castillo + minor league pitcher to 2 contending teams looking for help and get 2 young major league ready position players in return. I’d be looking for 3b and LF of course, but would also take 2b and CF.

Silva and castillo alone won’t get you this but you add a good prospect and it should be able to be done and it will help this year and ongoing.

Oh, and we should not give up nathan for anything. You need more than one top reliever to contend in 08 and without nathan, neshek is the only one that inspires a ton of confidence.

Yes, you’re one of the sane lone voices in the wilderness here who realizes Liriano won’t have that devastating slider he had before the surgery. Time will tell if he will come close to being the same pitcher or just a shell of what he was, but he won’t be the same guy the Twins had before the surgery.

Funkytown says:

Thanks for the Swarzak note, Tim, love to read your stuff.Been watching with interest. Easy to forget he’s only 21. Finish the year strong and he’s also a candidate for the 2008 Twins. Kid could be, in your words LaVelle, A STALLION.

And that’s what Garza is becoming. Look at how he adjusted during the game, and didn’t get flustered at the change up that kept fooling the ump. Finally, near the end, the threw it again and it got called strike 3.

96 mph at the knees, outside corner, followed by a change. Nasty.

Liriano may not have the same devastating slider he did before. We’ll probably start to know about mechanics changes this fall, when he’s expected to be ready for the Instructional League’s second half. But, if he has his velocity, which also hits mid-90s, he may not need it, IF he can locate the gas and throw a change.

MLB trade rumors reports that the twins are open to trading luis castillo..

sounds like they are willing to trade luis because they could get the mets to take rincon.

who would we get you ask? its reported that we are interested. DOUBLE A STARTER KEVIN MULVEY AND MAYBE RUBEN GOTAY.

hmm.. another starter..

Steve from Fridley says:

July 30th, 2007 at 9:39 am

Jp, did you honestly compare Joe Mays to Francisco Liriano? Mays was a mediocre fifth starter BEFORE he had the surgery. There’s to reason to believe he’d be any good AFTER it. Liriano would be the ace of any staff in baseball, except maybe Minnesota, since we have Santana also.

As for the DH scenario, I see a lot of people saying “don’t trade, give Buscher a shot at third!” I have the same feeling toward Rondell White, who has only played 4-5 games since his return. He looked terrible against Sabathia yesterday, yes. Then again, so did our resident batting champ, who’s biggest hit was the one time he put the ball in play and Barfield booted a grounder.

White put some good swings on the ball in Toronto (the double over Wells’ head was nice to see), and even when he was making outs in the first game, hit a couple of the balls fairly well.

If we can get a solid DH over him, then yes, I agree, but only if it’s someone who’s proven to be having a good season this year already. I don’t want the Twins signing Russell Branyan (as a few people mentioned) or Morgan Ensberg (to platoon at 3B/DH) to replace a guy that the clubhouse loves and who had a very productive second half last season.

Unless we get someone who’s already producing, I’d rather take a chance on White and hope he can throw together another .321 second half for the Twins. At this point, trading for a rental player when we’re 7.5 out at the end of July just continues to remind me of Big Papa Phil Nevin last year. I’d rather not give up a prospect, even if its a mid-level one, to bring in Russell Branyan and watch him bat .210 with 3 HR.

Thanks. Hope you make it out of there soon.

Wheeler was the Astros closer for about a month. It’s not like he is some chump off the streets. His stats are just about the same as Linebrink’s.

The rumor had it that TB asked for Garza when looking to trade Wiggington. If that was the deal I am pretty glad TR has some patience.

I also think that Wigginton is overrated, just like Ensberg, who is the flavor of the week now.

Sweens says:

1. Garza just looks a lot more composed and in command than he did last year. His stuff is just plain bodacious.

2. I don’t see a delivery overhaul for Cisco. They found that he had a weak spot in his shoulder that was causing him to overcompensate with his lower arm. He is strengthening that spot at the same time. The TJ surgery also replaces the ligament with a tendon that fills with blood and transforms to a ligament. The tendon/ligament is usually stronger than the original ligament. The only change will be Anderson continuing his quest to get Cisco to command his fastball so that he doesn’t throw 60% sliders.

3. Ryan will either make a Phil Nevin level pick up or no trade at all. He will then make the statement “We wanted to make a deal, but there just wasn’t anything out there that made sense for this organization.”

Dustin says:

If we can expand that Mets deal, like mentioned, to include Rincon and Castillo for one of the 3 OF’s (Gomez/Milledge/Martinez) plus Gotay, I do it in a heartbeat. And I think they’d do that. It solves all Mets holes.

jama says:

July 30th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Dustin

There are numerous reports that the Mets are not going to trade their OF prospects. This is especially true for players like Castillo and Rincon. They just turned down a trade of Milledge for Joe Blanton. So why on earth would they trade one of those prospects and just throw in Gotay for an average Middle Reliever and a rent a player?

Dustin says:

July 30th, 2007 at 12:32 pm

Gotay has no purpose for the Mets if they have Castillo, and they know that. I think they’d do it if they got BOTH Rincon and Castillo, who they love. Castillo would be an excellent #2 hitter behind Reyes, and dramatically improves their OBP (by 40-50 points) in that spot.

Steve from Fridley says:

July 30th, 2007 at 12:38 pm

Gotay’s purpose would that be once Castillo’s a free agent in the offseason, they’re not scrambling for another one again like they are right now.

I’d love to have Gotay, but I don’t know if that will happen.

Dustin says:

July 30th, 2007 at 12:55 pm

Obviously the Mets don’t view Gotay as a regular, or they wouldn’t be searching for a 2b, so again, he serves no purpose for them.

T says:

July 30th, 2007 at 1:12 pm

jama, I know I say it alot…but could the Twins piece together a three team deal? Perhaps Mets may not have quite what TR wants for Castillo, but then they could send something they have to a third team who could then pass Twins some hitting.

I know those are tough, but like I keep saying all these trade rumors seem to have one of the two teams just slightly lacking in what the other wants.

Regarding Liriano, I think odds are he will come back next year as good as when he left, but it isn’t gauranteed. Success rate on Tommy John surgery is 85 to 90% which is pretty good, but still 2 or 3 out of 20 times the player doesn’t come back.

“Think about spring training. Baker, Bonser, Garza, Slowey, Perkins, Duensing, Blackburn and Santana.”

Funny, when I look at that list, I see a thin rotation. There is one proven starter, Santana. Bonser and Baker have a shot at being in that category by the end of the year. Garza looks like he might be ready at this point. But if that group can’t get the Twins to the playoffs the rest of this year, why would anyone be excited about them next year? Liriano’s return would change the equation, but are those other prospects likely to be an improvement on Silva?

John says:

July 30th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

In re Castillo as a “rental player”: he isn’t exactly looked at as just being a rental on the basis that he is projected to be a Type A free agent when the season is over. That being the case, if he does not resign with the team that last owned his rights that team would be rewarded with either the first-round pick of the team that signed him (as long as that team was one of the top 15 record-wise in the league) or a “sandwich pick” between the first and second round (if the team that signed him was among the 15 worst). Hence, the Mets do have extra incentive or “insurance” to make a deal for Castillo — since they would be getting back the equivalent of a top-prospect if they didn’t resign him. Considering the Mets have been pursuing Castillo for years now, it would seem that they would resign him being how they were going to make a run at him in the offseason anyways. This way they would get him for a half-season longer at probably a cheaper price.

Sweens says:

These guys will be a huge improvement over Silva. The reason to get excited about them next year is that they will have a fair amount of major league seasoning. If Garza keeps doing what he is doing and Cisco returns to form the Twins will be stacked 1-3 in the rotation.

Josh's Thoughts says:

I didn’t see it mentioned, but Jeff Manship (atop pitching prospect) underwent TJ surgery while he was at Notre Dame.

He’s looking a lot better now then he did before the surgery.

I’m not saying Liriano will be that way, but I am happy that he has about 18 months to recover from it instead of 10-12 months like a lot of other players.

I think we have to just hope for the best.

jp says:

Castillo will not be a Type a, and likely not even a Type B free agent, so there is not much chance the team losing him would get compensation.

Smallmarket says:

July 30th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Gotay and Mulvey for Castillo and Rincon? We can do a lot better than that. I hope TR is dangling Silva (and possible other non-essential AAA/MLB players) to the Mets as well to get a legit position prospect.

Otherwise, don’t do it. I’d rather see the Twins have Castillo for a potential run this year with the draft pick later.

As for Wigginton, I have a hard time believing ‘reports’ that the Astros wouldn’t budge unless they got a top young pitching prospect (Garza, Slowey, etc.), then turn around and trade him for Wheeler. I’m sure the D-Rays started high in their demands, but come on…Ryan was caught napping (or ignoring, foolishly) when they lowered their sights.

LA VELLE

its reported that castillo is close to being sent to the mets for 2 AA starters..

is that all we are getting?

are we bringing up Casilla? or are teh twins finding a way to get Gotay back in return?

We’re dealing Castillo for MORE pitching?

Ugh. Ryan screws up again. I suppose maybe it’s better than getting whatever compensation a low Type B prospect gets us.

Still… do we really need MORE starters???

jp says:

Smallmarket:

Wheeler is a proven major leaguer who has closed for the astro’s. TB won’t see wiggington playing against them. Why is it so hard to believe that Garza was the only thing they’d take from the Twins?

jp says:

July 30th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

We can hope that if it’s true, it might be for prospects we can move to another team, possibly in the Mets division, for somebody who can help us now.

jp says:

July 30th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

And where is the trade being reported?

Austin says:

July 30th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

Probably because somebody with Garza’s potential and Dan Wheeler are nowhere close to the same. He was the former closer for the Astros, but got removed from that position because he was terrible.

LUIS IS TRADED..
AA CATCHER and an A BALL OUTFIELDER is what we get in return.

JP,

The following is from http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/07/mets-and-devil-.html:

“…Castillo is the youngest player and the best choice for the Mets, if they can get him. He’s likely be a Type A free agent if the Mets let him go…”

Whether or not that will be the case remains to be seen. It probably depends on whether he bats .300 or not. Frankly, I could care less as long as we get SOMETHING for the guy.

jama says:

July 30th, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Castillo MIGHT be a type B Free Agent. That’s all. Oh yeah the Twins have no shot this year anyway so why not get a couple of players.

Yoke says:

July 30th, 2007 at 3:32 pm

I really question whether half the people in Christensen’s blog watch the Twins, or follow any type of baseball other than clips on the news.

John says:

Well, sitting here on the edge of mxy seat waiting for TR to pull off one of his patented blockbuster deals, UI noticed this Gardy quote in LVN’s column:

“We just won two ballgames,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. “We’ve been playing as hard as we can the last two games. I’m happy with what we’ve got right now. If he makes deals or whatever, we’ll talk about it.”

I thought it needed some clarifying what Gardy meant when commenting “I’m happy with what we’ve got right now,” being how those unfamiliar with Gardy’s propensity for elliptical conversation might misconstrue this prima facie asinine statement. By saying that he is happy with his roster what he really means is that he is VERY HAPPY having Nick “the Stick” Punto on his team and hopes that a trade will not interfere in any way with him being able to put him in the lineup every night. Since Gardy puts what is best for Punto ahead of what is best for the team it’s difficult for him to differentiate between the two.

romer says:

July 30th, 2007 at 5:52 pm

Yeah John, I had seen that remark by Gardy, that he’s satisfied.

And apparently TR and Carl P. are too.

So to the rest of us, how about a big “SUCKERS”!

There’s just no reason we shouldn’t have gotten a decent DH a couple months ago and made a run at post season.

Now the Castillo trade makes it official. They’re satisfied to be at .500.

Josh says:

July 30th, 2007 at 6:13 pm

John,

Do you really believe Gardy values his affinity for Punto more than his job? Punto sucks, but Gardy feels he’s his best option at this point.
