Mauer hernia watch
Posted on September 26th, 2007 – 11:14 AMBy La Velle
Twins GM Terry Ryan said Wednesday morning that catcher Joe Mauer will undergo a complete physical next week in the Twin Cities that should determine if he’ll need hernia surgery.
“We will assess the full circumstances surrounding and see what needs to be done, if anything,” Ryan said.
Mauer, who is expected to catch staff ace Johan Santana tonight in Detroit, revealed last week that he may need hernia surgery to correct a condition he’s battled since midseason. It one of several ailments Mauer has battled this season. He missed a month with a strained quad and recently strained his left hamstring. He’s under orders to not run at full speed.
Ryan pointed out that Mauer had hernia surgery in the minors.
“I’ve had hernia surgery as well,” Ryan said. “Sometimes things linger.”

Trade him already…at least while he’s still worth something. He’s as fragile as porcelain.
At this point, why risk further injury by putting him in the game tonight? Is it that important that he catch Santana?
Heintz and LeCroy aren’t Grade A catching material, but at least they aren’t nursing numerous injuries.
I suppose the baserunning won’t take a hit, but I really just don’t want to see Mauer get hurt for no reason.
The Twins would regret the day they traded Mauer in my opinion. He is only going to get better and is already very good.
T, all I can say is Hunter and his comments are not helping this situation. What he said on KFAN was not right imo. How does he know how much pain other players are in? Mauer can barely run right now. He on more then one occasion has cost Torii RBI’s because of his inability to run
I think that if it is determined that Mauer does indeed need hernia surgery, everyone should realize, without a doubt, that Torii Hunter’s comments on Mauer’s toughness, or lack thereof, are inappropriate.
Boondoggle,
Trade him? What is that going to solve? Our offense is weak as is and then you would like to get rid of one our or better hitters? Please explain your reasoning. Your claim is that since there is a treat for Mauer to get injured we should trade him, its almost like the treat of getting in a car crash is enough not to drive, Boondoggle do you drive your car everyday? With your thinking its best you probably not.
I doubt Torii will care what Twins fans think of him when he takes the money (and years) and runs.
I don’t care who is his I’m not watching anyone’s herinated anything. LENIII enjoy.
I can’t believe we’re 6 posts in and no ones ‘gone there’ yet.
Now that that’s out of the way.
It’s a hernia for crying out loud. He doesn’t have narrowing of the spine or a bad ticker or ALS. He’ll be fine in a couple of weeks.
I have 2 thoughts
1) It doesn’t matter how well he can hit if he is always sitting on the bench. It might not be his fault but he is officially an injury prone player.
2) I agree that he shouldn’t be playing right now if he can’t run at full speed. Do you have guys pitching if they can’t throw a fastball? The only reason I can think of as to why he is catching is because this quite possibly is Johan’s last start as a Twin.

Ask Donovan McNabb or Matt Birk how long it can take to recover from a hernia surgery. It normally takes months not weeks. That is unless you go over to Europe where there is a new procedure that hasn’t been approved in the US yet. If that is the case it does only take a few weeks.
*threat not treat.
Put Mauer on the 15 day, send him home in his little pink dress, and pink blanket, and let the baby rest.
I have never seen a number 3 hitter that couldn’t pull the ball at least once every 10 atbats… that includes foul balls…
Mauer’s box score tonight.. F-7, F-7 F-7 Single to Left field over the short stop, and pinch ran for by LeCroy. Jesus wept…
I thought you had to be a man to be a catcher? Then again he was a quarterback, and the pink tutu rules that they have protecting quarterbacks now… maybe that’s why he’s such a baby…
he got a hernia from trimming those damn side burns, not from swinging a bat, or lifting weights…
While he’s an amazing hitter when healthy… an amazing single’s hitter with minimal speed…
If he is to stay in Minnesota you need to bat the man with the Pink number 7 in the leadoff spot, and take advantage of his good eye at the plate, and hope that in the 7-9th inning those lazy fly balls to left field can be deep enough for a Sac Fly.
So what is the over/under on Hunter not resigning, and the team then trading Santana?
My guess is that they are not smart enough to keep Hunter, and will keep Santana until the trade deadline just so they can milk us of our money for season tickets… because a team without Hunter and Santana will sell about 800,000 tickets less than they do now. It will just be the Mauer family, and corporate give aways at the Dome.
I for one don’t understand why Mauer has been playing for the past several weeks. If he is hurt as bad as his running (or lack of)indicates,he shouldn’t be on the field.Who is making these decisions? Gardenhire putting him on the field but telling him not to run hard is setting Mauer up for open season by his critics.Again, if he’s hurting so bad all he can do is limp to first, he shouldn’t be in the line up.
As far as Hunters comments on KFAN last night,He seemed to be talking more about THE WAY guys were not playing, making base running mistakes, mental errors, etc.Barriero seemed to jump at the chance to ask Hunter if he was talking about Mauer,Hunter said “this isn’t about Mauer”
He’s as fragile as porcelain.
That’s what they said about Robert Smith in his first three years with the Vikings. He ended up breaking the team record for yards from scrimmage.
BC
I think it would be wise to let Hunter go. So I would say that they are smart enough not to keep him.
Speaking of men in pink… who is going ot be the starting QB in Chicago this weekend? Rex the wonder dunce, or Kyle Orton virus protection?
Wonder dunce is the worst thing to happen to Minnesota since Les Steckel. Because Dunce got to the Super Bowl last year… Childregress is thinking that Jackson can lead the Vikings to the promised land. I say not in 40 years has it happened with better QBs (minus spergin Wynn), and never under the Childregress regime.
Fire Chilly and his offensive genius, and bring in Bill Cowher next year!
cmat
That was because the team around him was good. How did his career end by the way? Once a Sally always a Sally.
BC
It’s going to be Brian Griese but you know let everyone know that you know nothing about football. Way to go!!!
jama, if it’s smart to let hunter go, what do they put in CF next year?
Ford? Span? Tyner? dig a 6ft hole, and toss the season in it?
True, Robert Smith was fragile. However, he was getting hit on most every play. Perish the though if Mauer decided on football as his career path. He never would’ve made it through a college season. Unless he was a kicker or punter.
How did making fun of brad childress, Jackson, and the joke they call a QB in Chicago show anything about my NFL knowledge? Jackson is a year away at best from being a Trent Dilfer type quarterback if the Vikings are lucky.
You can bleed purple all you want, but in the end they are going to get spanked by Father time this weekend, and are going to compete with Atlanta and Oakland for the worst team in the NFL.
So the big question to me is who is the Twins Centerfielder next year?
And if Nick Punto is the starting 2nd baseman next year, how long before it’s time to fire Gardy?
trade mauer? funny.. bad enough the team is on the brink of losing Torii..
but enough about that nonsense..
the other night dick and bert said the twins should get miguel tejada and have him play 3rd… WRONG.. what are they thinking?
you sign Torii and put him in center. you sign Bonds and have him DH. then you sign ARod and he plays 3rd… ( i wouldnt mind hank blalock either)

bonds-dh
arod-3b

now, this is my response to dick and berts idea of getting tejada… why not get arod and bonds.. heck, giambi.. adam dunn maybe..

The Twins have to look at the short and long term situation. Signing Hunter would look great for a year or 2 but the last 3 or 4 years would most likely be fans such as yourself wondering why they signed him to such a long term deal. In my opinion you should save that money and try to get a decent 3B.
You showed you lack of knowledge about the NFL because you said the Bears were going to either start Grossman or Orton. They aren’t going to start either one of those guys. And by the way I hate the Vikings that’s why I’m not on Access Vikings screaming about Childress.
mh
I am assuming you are joking about Bonds and ARod. Otherwise I think it might be time to sit down and take another hit.
These blogs are so funny i bet there’s at least one person who hates at least one or more players on this team. I like Joe but i’m worried that he might be closing in on Mark Prior
Oh, with all this vikings talk..
i want to know WHY our offense is soo bad..
ok. so T-jack sucks..
but when childress was in philly they didnt have anything for WR’s .. then they finally got owens..
somethin tells me that childress pulled a fast one on the vikes.. childress has no business being an NFL coach…
and WHY DONT THE VIKINGS EVER LOOK WITHIN? granted we did that with Tice… but why not Dungy, why not Billick, why not Del rio, why not Tomlin..

My best guess at CF next year is probably a guy that played in AAA this year and is going to be traded to the Twins in the off season.
jama -
yea.. my arod bonds post was a cheap shot at dick and bert thinking we could get tejada..
who knows.. maybe arod would love minnesota.. no pressure.. kinda liek tubby..
arod just needs to hit 40 hrs and we’d love em.. hahaha
mh
Tejada is actually on the trade block right now. Baltimore is supposedly not asking for that much. 2 AAA caliber players is what has been reported.
In my opinion the Twins need to decide what direction they are going in and not get stuck in-between and end up with many years of mediocre teams.
They need to decide on one of two directions and not get stuck in between, by signing Hunter and not filling in the other positions they need, or letting Hunter, Santana, & Nathan walk without getting anything for them.
Direction one:
Resign Hunter, go get a 3B and DH in the FA market and try to win the whole thing in the next year or possibly 2009.
Direction two:
Start a mini-rebuilding. Let Hunter, Silva walk, Trade Santana, Nathan & either Cuddy/Mauer for prospects that will be ready in 2010, and play the kids (pitchers, & position players) and see how they react. This should allow the Twins to contend in 2010-2013 time frame.
jama
well then thats a different story.. cept i wouldnt trade 2 young pitchers for tejada..
but i think miggy would be worth it.. he is tired of baltimore and you can just see it.. his production has suffered…
my only problem would be him playing 3rd.. i dont care for his defense at short.. but barlett hasent been stellar either..
Jama i was listening to the local sports broadcast here in Bismarck and one of the guys mentioned that in the Chicago series it looked like they were showing off Darrin Erstad and his versatility as far as being able to play all three outfield positions as well as 1B. I know he’s not a substitution for Hunter but if healthy he would be a nice addition to the Twins.
Pulitzer for that title of this entry.
TMG
I basically agree with your two directions with one notable exception. The Twins are not going to trade Joe Mauer! I know it kind of puts a damper on your handle but it isn’t going to happen. There is a reason he is the only “star” player with a contract beyond 2008.he’s the pony they have choosen to ride in the parade.
JFC no Queen talk here, please!
It’s bad enough we’ve got to put up w/ the football chatter dominating the radio waves in July let alone a Twins message board?
Tajada at this point in his career would be a terrible investment. You’d be paying for his production from 2 or 3 years ago and getting even less than you saw this year. Plus he can’t field his position anymore and that’s a non-starter for the Twins.
bisonaudit
Your assessment of Tejada is exactly what everyone is going to be saying about Hunter in 3 years. So you made up my mind that I don’t want Tejada unless Baltimore pays over half his salary. He can still hit but his D is not exactly stellar anymore at short.
Another option for CF is trying to sign Mike Cameron to a 2 year deal for about 7 mil per. He is a good defender and has some power.
I would agree with TMG that the Twins need to decide what to do. I prefer the “reloading” philosophy, I would let Hunter and Santana go and trade Johan then look at building your team for 2010. Nathan is kind of a toss up in my mind. It depends on how much money he is asking for.
Tejada made almost $14m this year and is probably slated to make more next year. Unless Baltimore agreed to keep a large portion of his salary, it won’t happen.
You beat me jama!
If Mauer were from Florida there wouldn’t be one positive post about him on this message board. Drafting the hometown hero and putting all the eggs in that one basket is going to set this franchise back tremendously. I suspect Mauer will move to 1B and Morneau will be allowed to walk. Mauer is just another Doug Make-a-wish; remember Douggie baseball had one good offensive year too…
What is it with Minnesota? Why are people so brainwashed here, why does the news always have to find Minnesota ties, like reporting that someone who accomplished something special stayed at a freaking bread and breakfast in Duluth one time 8 years ago? Yes, Joe Mauer has talent, and yes he’s from here, but he is also an injury prone player who hits for minimal power and only plays part time… Despite being “one of us” he isn’t the God-like figure most make him out to be… He’s a mediocre injury prone baseball player who had one good season and got paid because of it…
Lars:
The day the Peter Gammons comes on Baseball Tonight and tells me that Joe Mauer is no longer one of the top catchers in the game is the day I’ll give a second thought to your opinion on this issue. Check back in 2016.
Really is that why he has been praised in the minors on up by scouts and reports like Peter Gammons? I suppose they have no idea what they ae talking about either.
As a person that left MN and hopes to someday move back, i point out all of the MN conected people to my girlfriend, in trying to get her to agree to go there. I met that dude in the Duluth hotel room, great guy.
How can I go who basically stands around for 3 hours every night in CF know what a catcher goes through? Torii should learn to shut his mouth more often especially with the media. If he has a problem with teammates, call a meeting and keep it in the clubhouse.
Did Someone mention Bonds?
Seriously, if no one wants him, why not offer him $1 million plus incentives. You never know.
If Bonds came here there’d be folks complaining in this space by May 1st that he takes to many pitches. ![]()
or Sosa, more need for a righty
If Sosa came here those same folks would be complaining in this space by May 1st that he swings and misses to much. ![]()
If A-rod came here they’d complain that he makes too many errors at third and would beg to have you know who back.
Here is a quote from the “blog”
“To do that, he starts with the usual base-out run value charts.”
Which is to say he starts by assuming that the value of advancing a base is fixed. Is there any evidence for this? Its the basis for a whole variety of conclusions, yet it flies in the face of reason.
Is Peter Gammons a doctor? I don’t deny Mauer’s talent, but I certainly question his health and heart. He should not be free from criticism because he was born and raised in St Paul.
Also, I can not believe people would bash Torii Hunter for his opinions. Torii has 100% more heart than Joe Mauer. It pains me to see the Twins part ways with the charismatic, energetic, reliable Torii Hunter and keep Ordinary Joe.
The base-out run value charts are pretty basic stuff supported by a ton of data. For every possible combination of outs and baserunners

I too am pained by the Torii bashing, but that doesn’t excuse the Mauer bashing.
Gammons isn’t a doctor (health) or a clarvoiant (heart) and neither are you.
Hunter is entitled to his opinions. I even agree with some of them. I don’t have a problem with his opinions, I just don’t agree with how he expresses some of them. (Criticizing teammates in the media.)
With all this Torii/Joe bashing I can’t wait for the Youtube clip
Ala the infamous “leave Britney (spears) alone” video. I can hear it now…
“Leave Joe alone!!!! He didn’t do anything!!!”
Joe Mauer = talent
Britney = not so much
I love how twins fans, followers, writers etc. keep talking about moving mauer from behind the dish, trading mauer…whatever. this is all i have to say:
From AaronGleeman.com
Lastly, take a look at the following comparison of two well-known players and their career numbers:
AVG OBP SLG OPS OPS+ PlayerX .312 .393.456 .849 124
PlayerZ .317 .388.461 .849 123
Both guys are active players who man up-the-middle positions defensively, but they’re perceived much differently. Player X gets picked apart by fans and criticized constantly by the local media, while Player Z is perhaps the most fawned-upon player in baseball and has national media members asserting that he’s “the best player of my lifetime” and “the best baseball player I ever saw.” Oh, and between the two mystery men, only Player X has won a batting title.
player X is joe mauer
player Y is derek jeter
oh yeah…and joe mauer plays toughest position in baseball…and this just in: he is the best defensive catcher in the game. FACT.
Thank you, Dave!
Thank you, Aaron Gleeman!
Thank you, Minneapolis!
This is better:
Avg. OBP SLG OPS OPS+
X .312 .393 .456 .849 124
y .317 .388 .461 .849 123
Yes…I wish joe mauer hit homeruns or doubles off the baggy…I think we can all agree that he is a #2 hitter, not a #3 hitter. Everyone just relax on the joe mauer talk…he is a really valuable player…AS A CATCHER
Dave, you need to add two stats:
GP
AB
And then maybe a third, stints on the DL.
It’d be great if the best defensive C in the game could stay healthy and actually play in more than 50-60% of his teams games. Also, how is he the best C, but has never won a gold glove?
The base-out run value charts are pretty basic stuff supported by a ton of data. For every possible combination of outs and baserunners
You seem to miss the central question. Are those variables - the base the runner is on and the number of outs - the most important factors in determining whether a runner will score? Or is it the runner? Or the pitcher. Or the catcher. Or the outfielder’s arms?
And are the players who are on second base a random sample of all players? They obviously aren’t. So your data set does not represent the average runner. As you point out, how likely someone is to score also depends on who bats behind them. And who the pitcher is. And who the catcher is. And who the defenders are. And probably on the weather - damp basepaths slow runners down. In short you are starting with the assumption that all the other factors are the same - only the number of outs and the base the runner is on need to be controlled for. And that is clearly hokum.
On the other hand. If it was entirely a question of teammates batting behind a runner, you would expect the players with the best hitting teammates - like the 29 Yankees - to score most often. But that isn’t the case. Its guys like Vince Coleman and Otis Nixon. Top of the order speedsters who steal a lot of bases.
It represents the average result of the runners who are in those situations.
Ahhhh Joe Mauer is better than Derek Jeter?
That is the funniest, most ludicrous thing I have ever heard in my entire life. When Joe plays for as long as Jeter, makes as many big plays as Jeter on the biggest stage in the MLB, is the team leader on a team with the biggest egos in the league, racks up half the gold gloves, has anywhere near the number of years playing hurt, or just plan not getting hurt, come and talk to me.
In ten years we could see Joe doing those thing, BUT HE HAS TO DO IT FOR MOR THAN ONE YEAR, before you can make that comparison.
What a joke.
Jeter - 626 ABs
Mauer - 400 ABs
Also, player X is hitting .287 this season, while player Y is hitting .319 (and staying healthy, and leading his team to the post season)…
Comparing Jeter to Mauer in 06 was okay, but in 07 (or any other year) is laughable
Joe Mauer is 24 years old. Its plain silly to be drawing conclusions about what kind of career he will have. His injuries are clearly a worry. Catchers, more than any other position, depend on durability.
And did I miss something? I thought Torii explicitly said he wasn’t talking about Mauer. But I suppose that wouldn’t make such a good story would it?
want some stats? OK!!!!
see aarongleeman.com

Then make sure you can reproduce whatever it is he claims is true. There has never been a less reliable source of news and analysis.
he is simply comparing 2 players career stats…nothing more.
Lars:
The playing time issues is addressed in Gleeman’s blog. Check it out.
TT:
I don’t even know where to start w/ you on the base-out value run value charts. The numbers used in the study encompase every at bat for the entire period under study so they be definition reflect the average abilities of the runs who’ve reached those bases. I can only refer you to Baseball behind the numbers which has a much more sophisticated analysis of the run-out value charts (in the context of sacrificing) points out some of their short comings, runs a much more sophisticated win-expectancy analysis which includes just about everything except the weather and comes to largely the same conclusion.
Anyone who says Mauer, one of the best all around catchers in baseball, should be traded just doesn’t have a clue, pure and simple. I don’t care how much he gets injured. He’s averaged 126 games played the past 3 years. (age 22-24) During Pudge Rodriguez’s 3 years from age 22-24, he averaged………127 games. I doubt Rangers fans back in the 90’s were stupid enough to say that Pudge should be traded. People on here just need to relax already, he plays the most physically demanding position on the diamond, he is going to get hurt from time to time. Even if we do trade him, who exactly would be our full time catcher?????
In the baserunning study he examined who was better at taking the extra base, stealing bases by volume and success rate etc and used the marginal weights from the base-out run charts only to calculate the additional runs contributed by each individuals unique baserunning skills as demonstrated over the course of each season from 2000-2005. Juan Piere was good for 9 runs one season and that was the best result over the 6 year period examined.
you know who i think is to blame for the Twins being sucky this year? Mike Redmond! Thats Who!!

Terrible!! Fire Joe Vavra!! Fire Gardy!!
Off with his head!!
I feel I should put this out there only so it doesnt get out of control.
I would LOVE to keep Mauer as a Twins player. He is my 5th fav player on the team. If there was no budget constrants on this team, and he wasnt going to be earning 10-12mil a year I would like to watch him play for the rest of his carrer.
But because of budget constraints we all can agree you can get a few players for 10-12 mil a year that will produce. (The same reason many dont want to sign Hunter. You can get more value) And when the injury concerns come in to play (see Mark Prior) My fav. team cant afford “put all there eggs in one basket”.
“On the other hand. If it was entirely a question of teammates batting behind a runner, you would expect the players with the best hitting teammates - like the 29 Yankees - to score most often. It is so funny to hear all of the hate Mauer talk. As an out-of-stater I couldn’t care less which state he is from. Can the kid play? Yes, anyone that knows anything about baseball knows he can. Has he had a numbe of injuries? Yes. Is it a concern? Yes. Do I hate him and think he sucks because of that? Hell no. Letting him go would add just another hole in the Twins lineup. Earlier in the year someeople were complaining that he hits to 2nd too much and now some are complaining that he doesn’t pull enough. But that is so typical. He will never, ever be able to do enough to silence many of his home state critics. I still say that he will keep getting better and better, We will just have to wait and see who is right.
TMG, the problem with always trading off the guys that make more money for cheaper guys is tht you often get what you pay for. I have read on here that the Twins should trade Mauer, Morneau, Hunter, Cuddyer, Santana, Nathan and others because there are cheaper alternatives available. Well, yeah and ther may be a reason that they are cheaper too. I understand maybe trading one or two if you can replace their production but for crying out loud what is the point of having talented players if they are only going to traded for cheaper players. At some point you have to build a team with some talent and keep some of that talent. I disagree 100% about Mauer who I personally believe still has his best and most productive years ahead.
Boy that was a major meltdown by Blackburn. He is not earning any points for that performance.
Blackburn only has a few months’ experience at AAA. And, is he a reliever?
Dear Carl Pohlad,
I just wanted you to know how much most of Minnesota and the surrounding areas appreciate the Twins…even though the twins may give us…a lot of second guessing and why are they playing punto still? And why your not spending more money!!!! The are a great team to watch and I like to watching them because we “dont buy our team” we have to “work” for everything and that is a true minnesotan and a lot of people in US would agree with that. I just want everyone to know it is going to be a very sad day for me and a lot of others to see hunter go. I dont think he wants to leave but dont low ball him give someone like hunter who deserves the BEST a chance to stay!!! This is not a guy who is cocky, someone on steriods, or someone you dont want on a team. Torri is a leader, fun to be around, nice smile and someone minnesota cant live without….truly we are in for some bad days ahead without him…not for the hrs, rbis…that does not matter what mattters is he CARES and works hard. He will take time for an autograph and people come to your stadium to watch him just like they did with kirby. I truly think you need to commit to him and give a little more effort on getting your team over that hump….we are not that far away….so unless you have another puckett or hunter around, you better start thinking really hard what your going to do to keep people in the seats to watch AAA centerfielders play and your team not playing well because we have no team leader!! Unless you guys were serious about Bonds and A-Rod. I almost died laughing at that comment. Have a great night folks
The number 1 thing the Twins need to do this off season is to sign Carlos Silva to a two or three year deal A) He is without a doubt the number 2 starter who eats up a ton of innings and led the team in Quality starts and games where the twins were shutout. B) This just might help to get Johann to sign on to a contract extention.
Number 2 is to find a way to keep Torii and 3 sign Mourneau, Bartlett and some of these other young guys to long term contracts while we can still afford them.
Mick I can live without Hunter being here. Also Carl Pohlad is over 90 years old do you really think that he is calling many of the shots on what the Twins are doing?
Crazy Pierre
Silva is going to get a contract for around 8 or 9 mil per season. There is NO WAY that the Twins can afford him. If the Twins signed Silva, Hunter, and Morneau those 3 contracts would probably total more than $150 million dollars over approximately 5 years. That doesn’t even count trying to sign Santana and the money that Mauer is making. If you add those 2 guys you are talking about spending at least 65% of your payroll on 5 guys. Then the team would look exactly like it does right now for the next 5 years. That is not what I want
I want Hunter here for his HR and RBIs. When he walks, so does 1/4 of our offense. Crap.
jama,
Hunter we “can” live without but if you want to know how much one player can make a difference then we should let him go. Gardy will be gone and the twins will not do well and we will be below kc…trust me we want him here. It is not his talent!!! It is who he is and what minnesota needs.
mick by your arguement we should pay a player min 15 million a year over min years based on
“It is not his talent!!! It is who he is and what minnesota needs.”
If the Twins can resign Hunter and afford to address other important things, resign players (Santana, Morneau) address 3rd DH, then I am all for it. Even if it means over paying for a guy whose skill set is in decline. However, I do not believe this is possible or probable. I believe its in Twin’s best interest to let Hunter go. As far as his leadership? He doesn’t seem to be a positive influence when the team isn’t winning. Isnt that the definition of a leader?
Many times I’ve heard the Pohlad complaint. The taxpayers are paying for his staduim, they deserve Pohlad to spend money. I find that amusing. I guess people don’t realize how many businesses the government subsidizes. Oil companies receive gigantic tax breaks. Farmers and the agriculture business. Many companies are enticed to move to MN by tax incentives or money. But only Pohlad and his company should have their actions dictated by “us”.
Keep TORRI(4 yrs-60 mil)Trade Johan for Kemp,LaROUCHE And Kershaw of the Dodgers as mentioned in many blogs. That would free up to sign Morneau and Cutty long-term.We can’t afford to lose both Torri and Johan for draft choices. That would set us back 10yrs.Send Boof home to Tampa with JuanR or AAA pitching propects for Juan Guzman(rh depth at 3B,1B,LF,DH)THIS makes sense.
selling tickets. selling ticket. that is exactly why santana will be around until the 2008 trade deadline, so buy your tickets Twinposers, but only for those games before the trade deadline.

If you’re going to rebuild by trading Santana why resign a guy who will be 40 at the end of a big contract, who is coming off his career year in a contract year, and has been injured two out of three years? Hunter is worth it only if you’re trying to win now. His production can be replaced by upgrade at 3rd and DH.
I dont mind trading Santana though.
We need Zygii or someone with deep pockets to buy the Twins, then re-sign Torii to a 5-year deal that he wants, sign Johan to a long-term deal, and pursue Bonds as a DH. Along with getting Liriano back from injury next year. Then maybe we could compete with the Yankees and RedSox of the world. Dreaming I know, but wouldn’t it be great…
Go Twins!
I feel bad for Joe, hope Mauer all the
best in the offseason and best of luck
next year 2008, hoping he’ll stay healthly, Go Twins.

Respecfully,i don’t think you see the point i was trying to make in regards to rebuilding. We are only in rebuilding mode if we let both Torri and Johan walk for draft choices. If the deal i proposed went down we could be back in the hunt in 08 if Lirano comes back strong. If not 09 will be the goal. Torri is only 32 so a 4yr would make him 36.
