A Friday thought

We’re shorthanded at the office, so guess what I’m covering tonight? St. Thomas Academy vs Minneapolis Washburn in prep football playoffs (whoo hoo!). But I did finish up a Twins related story for Sunday. In fact, Joe C. has crafted a nice read for Sunday as well, so be on the lookout for Twins coverage this weekend.

Anyone know about knee injuries? I played basketball yesterday, but my knee began to ache last night and I woke up in pain this morning. I’ve been limping around the house all day. It’s gotten better, but my knee is warm when I touch it, so there’s definitely some inflammation inside. I’ve never had a knee injury, so I don’t know if this will go away over the weekend or if I should have it checked out.

Now for the reason for today’s filing. Talked with a member of the front office yesterday who told me that the club really wants to get Glen Perkins back in a starter’s role. His stuff is good enough to be a starter, but he had to take some of the load off of Dennys Reyes last year (before he got hurt).

It was an indication that one of the Twins’ secondary goals this offseason is to find another lefty reliever. Carmen Cali was called into duty last season, with a few positive results (the problem is that there were only a few).

So I’m wondering about free agent lefty relievers. Trever Miller? Eddie Guardado? Jeremy Affeldt? (I don’t think Affeldt has filed yet).

 Your thoughts?
