I'd rather they be good during the whole game (Kubel the DH) than save Kubel for 1 chance to PH.

Make that:
"maybe he can drive IN five runs on the days he gives up four."
Finger failure.

If Livan pitches during interleague play, maybe he can drive if five runs on the days he gives up four.

flatblade,
You are right about our lack of a good LH pinch hitter when Kubel is the DH.
I would still pinch hit Monroe against RHP rather than watch LNP bat for himself.
After Monroe the PH are Livan, (definitely NOT young and inexperienced)
Redmond and Tolbert/Buscher.

flatblade,

"In order for Harris to hold the 2B job, he must hit appreciably better than Nicky. He really hasn’t so far this spring, and there is only one week left."

Harris is hitting almost 100 points higher than Punto (.238 to .139).
Is that not appreciably higher?
If ST is not convincing, how about 2007 regular season.
Harris .286 12-59
LNP .210 1-25
Punto is utility IF, Harris is the regular 2B and it isn't even close.

Cmath,

"But until we can put RFID tags in balls and players’ gloves and set up a grid in a stadium to track ball velocity and trajectory relative to player positioning, it’s the best we will likely do."

I agree.
IMO "it’s the best we will likely do.".
My point is that the subjective judgement of experts (or ourselves if experts are unavailable) is superior to any existing fielding metric. Even with our biases, I put more faith in a consensus of scouts/field staffers who tell me that Punto is a good (bad?) fielder than I do in FA/UZR/whatever.

Offensive performance is much easier to measure and I do believe in those stats.
