Basically, only Matsuzaka's AGENT held the BoSox hostage. There were plenty of other Japanese plauyers to go around at much more reasonable prices. For example, how about Iwamura, who I begged the Twins to try to land. His contract is certainly nothing outlandish by today's standards, and you get durable, hardworking player who won't be whining every five minutes. Instead the Twins don't even try to play the game or do so half-heartedly as Len III has mentioned.

David Estum, July 5th, 2008 at 11:00 am says:

"...You have no idea how lucky you are to have the Vikes, Twins, Wild and Wolfes [sic]."

Nevermind how fortunate we all should feel for having healthy children, a good education/job, food on the table, a roof over our heads, and a car that gets more than 30 mpg... WE HAVE THE TIMBERWOLVES!!! I can just see all those parents in Omaha with children in Iraq who curse their luck every day for not having Keven McHale run a professional sports franchise in their city.

Every blog someone has to come on and start bitching about the lack of "positivity" on here and how we're not patting PROFESSIONAL athletes making millions of dollars on their backs often enough for "trying" and "battling their tails off." These are the same people who think parents who spank their children ought to be locked up for life, and lobbied to change the high school hockey tournament into a format where every school in the state gets a trophy.

These are PROFESSIONAL athletes and PROFESSIONAL franchises who run to us to build them their stadiums and compensate payroll via ticket-price hikes and yet we're all supposed to just settle for mediocrity, have no expectations, and just feel blessed that we have sports teams in the area that give us the honor of watching them, huh?

People who need the reassurance of "positivity" on a constant basis are people also who have self-esteem issues and really need to get some sort of psychological counseling.

If these kids are so enthralled by Yankee and Bo-Sox "mystique" then what is Cabrera doing signing with Florida and Inoa with the A's? It's gotten to the point now that when a Latin player actually signs with the Twins you just figure that he can't be much of a prospect or he would have signed with another team.

Of course, if the Twins are in fact really disappointed in yet another great Latin prospect "slipping through their fingers," they could make it up to themselves by adding in whatever money they were offering to any proposals they've already made to unsigned draftees BJ Hermsen and Joe Loftus.
