Shooter Hunt is blowing the doors off the Appy League.
Tonight: 12K 0BB in 6 inninngs.
So far: 28K 2BB in 14 innings
Thats 2K’s per inning with a 0.64 ERA.
And a 14/1 K/BB ratio.

Instead of wasting money on Beltre, the Twins should "lock up" Punto to a multi-year deal.

The Twins have several players, who are as good as, or better than, Beltre.

David, it all appears to hinge on whether Seattle is doing a salary purge or not. If they are looking to unload salary, it usually means steep discounts on talent. If they are looking to just sell, well, that is different.
If they are looking to set up for next year, and not at cutting salary this year, then yes, Beltre would be extremely expensive.
Guess we will all find out soon.

Me Too, the Twins are not going to get Beltre for Harris and a bunch of Garbage, The Mariners need young talent after the Bedard trade and Beltre has another year on his contract so he is not a rental and they do not need to trade him so they will not give him away.

Why is everyone so sure a Beltre deal would only be for this year and next? Corner fielders have a pretty good shelf-life. If he produces, and is still a good defender, why not try to sign him longer-term? The guy has pop in his bat, and if he is as good on defense as is made out, that is a plus-player if I have ever seen one. The Twins need right-handed hitters to put in the order to afford some protection to Justin.
If the Twins put together a trade package to get him, I find it likely that they don't do it as a rent-a-player, they are looking more longterm.
They have done it in the past. Reed and Stewart both come to mind.
Personally, if Beltre is going to be traded, I really hope it is to the Twins.
Trade package that makes sense to me,
Harris / Lamb (probably only if we pick up some of the tab)
Bonser
Cali/ Barrett

Harris is probably without a spot on the Twins if the trade happens, so he would be the best pick in my mind, I just don't think that Lamb has enough value to be considered tradeable. He has more value coming off the bench in my mind.
I think that Bonser needs a change, he's probably finished as a Twins starter, and his stuff is really good, but he doesn't seem to be able to carry it into the game with him. In a pitchers park, man, he could really benefit.

Of the AAA arms, Cali/ Barrett are both solid relievers, and actually, I am surprised that Cali hasn't been given another shot to prove that he can't get it done, since I liked his stuff when he was up last time.
Overall, I think that might be a bit high in talent for basically a rent-a-player, but honestly, most of that talent is just interchangeable parts with people we already have coming thru the system anyway.
If we can lock up our third-baseman for the next 3 or 4 years, it is probably worth much more than that anyway.

"Don't fix it if it ain't broken," "we don't need to make any moves." You are both right if you are content with possibly making the playoffs and then losing in the first round. When the teams around you already have more talent and are not scared to make moves to go all the way, not just first round, then you have to make moves to compete. We have all gotten too comfortable with managment not making moves and spending money.
