don't fret about losing Liriano. He is under club control for several years yet. No way that they are going to trade him right now. Maybe in a few years, but right now, he is a Redwing, but he will be a Twin for several years before you even have to consider the prospect of seeing him pitch for another team.

No. Trading Liriano just doesn't make sense to me. He is the only pitcher with the stuff to be an ace. He has the best shot, by far, of being a great pitcher. All the other ones will need to succeed without having great stuff. That is do-able, but harder to do.

that said, no one is untouchable. But not for Atkins and a reliever. No way I'd do that.

Would the Twins consider a Liriano for Atkins and Fuentes trade considering they have no room for Liriano and this would solve the long standing black hole at third base and shore up our bullpen for the stretch run and if we dont re-sign Fuentes he would most likely be a type A free agent so we would get two top picks for losing him??? Does this make sense for both sides?

Some thoughts.
Some asked why Gutierrez is still relieving. The Twins want him to build up arm strength after Tommy John. He won't start until next year.

Boof: If anybody wants him, it's a team in a pitchers park (SD or maybe SEA)

Beltre: I think the Twins might give up a decent prospect for a 1.5 year player (non-rental). Remember Castillo? He was only signed for 2 years when they traded for him. Admittedly, those prospects fizzled in FL.

Me Too- completely agree.

I think you guys are being a hard on Liriano. You act like he was a complete no name player that all of the sudden starting complaining about being in the minors.

#1. I can't prove this, but I think this is much more the agent than Liriano himself talking.

#2. Remember ALL the reports about/from Liriano over the past year and half? Twins officialls constantly said things like: He's doing well. He's following the plan we're giving him. He's cooperating with us. He's listening to us and really wants to follow our guidelines, etc., etc., etc. He seemed to be a responsible person. This just doesn't seem like something that he would do- at least to go as far as filing a grievence...

#3. Even if he's frustrated, wouldn't you be? You dominate the entire league for 4 months. You have season-ending TJ surgery. You can't even throw a ball for 12+ months. You have to sit out a whole season. You might be better than Santana (the best in the game at that point). You watch Santana get millions of dollars. Your pumped up at Spring Training. You don't do that well. You don't make the ball club. You get called up. You completely bomb. You do very well in the Minors for quite a while. You don't get called up. You're losing a ton of money. Yeah, I'm a little pissed.

If I trade ANY of our Young starters, I want some serious talent in return. Beltre...wouldn't cut it for me- at least based on his numbers before the trade. Teams are Always pitching- paticularly of the starting variety- Starved. The Twins are very good in that department- they need hitting. I want all-star callibur talent (either current or future). Maybe Beltre AND a VERY good prospect for Slowey/Perkins/Blackburn.
