Twins-Sox: The, `Beat Mark Buehrle,’ Lineup

Posted on July 28th, 2008 – 4:14 PM
By La Velle

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has both Joe Mauer and Mike Redmond in the starting lineup, and for a good reason.

Mike Redmond is batting .480 (12 for 25) against Buehrle, so he’s the DH today while Joe Mauer catches. Craig Monroe is batting .368 (14 for 38) with two homers off the Buehrle-man, so he’s in there too. Buehrle is 21-11 with a 3.78 ERA against the Twins and, in my opinion, has been the biggest pain in the Twins’ necks through the years.

Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup. Denard Span is in center and batting leadoff again.

For Nick Punto fans, he’s batting .321 against Buehrle.

5:55 update: Gomez told Gardenhire that he’s available to play tonight. He went through pre-game with no problems and is expected to start tomorrow.

Michael Cuddyer took 25 soft swings and put an outfielder’s glove for the first time since June 28 as he shagged fly balls and made throws. He needs to be able to grip and rip the bat a few days before the Twins send him out on a rehab program. But it was easy to tell he was glad just to be out on the field with a purpose for a chance.

By the way, Cuddyer had two cortisone injections in his left index finger/hand area.

A crowd of 38,000 is expected tonight. The stars have come out for this one, as Brock Lesnar was on the field before the game.

Check back here later for updates!

Lineups

White Sox (59-44): 1.Orlando Cabrera, SS. 2. A.J., C. 3. Carlos Quentin, LF. 4.  Jermaine Dye, RF. 5. Jim Thome, DH. 6. Paul Konerko, 1B. 7. Nick Swisher, CF. 8. Josh Fields, 3B. 9. Alexei Ramirez, 2B. Pitching: Mark Buehrle.

I do believe that the Twins are overdue to put a great big “hammerin” on Mr. Buehrle.

Plunkton says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Wow, interesting, LEN3. Gardy is pulling out all the stops in having both his catchers in the same game. I suppose they could always have Mike “bullpen catcher” Lamb be the emergency catcher if necessary.

Jason says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

Ouch. That lineup must have Gleeman fuming…

Guess Gardy will stick with his way, folks. His way has provided us with results, mind you.

Go Twins! I was at the last Twins - White Sox series in chicago. Hopefully I was the bad luck. Good thing I’m no where near MN . . .

Jason says:

“For Nick Punto fans, he’s batting .321 against Buehrle.”

Such fans exist?

What’s the update on Gomez?

Everett? Are they really going to add him to the roster, and if so, at who’s expense?

Rotoblinders says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:26 pm

LNP is my hero. But seriously hopefully the guys can grit one out and beat Buehrle.

Ben says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:27 pm

Yesterday or Sat they were saying Gomez was looking to come back for tomorrows game, haven’t heard otherwise, nor a confirmation.

Jason says:

“Buehrle is 21-11 with a 3.78 ERA against the Twins and, in my opinion, has been the biggest pain in the Twins’ necks through the years.”

Bigger than Troy Percival? That dude single-handedly handcuffed us for about a decade…as did Mike Mussina in his early years…

Rotoblinders says:

FSN coverage tonight, my guesstimates:

35% on All you can eat seats
15% on the AFLAC Trivia Question
20% Ron Coomer random analysis
10% Circle me Bert (includes lottery winners circle)
20% Game

But seriously, they talked about the AYCE seats way way too much last time.

Liriano says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:32 pm

Twinsbaseball.com does not list a probable pitcher for tomorrow night. Is there any chance it could be Liriano?

Plunkton says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:32 pm

Roto that is halarious!! I agree with most of that. You forgot a few things…how about being subjected to that goofy “singing Twins” commercial at least 3 times per telecast. Notice how they edited that after Rincon got the boot? Hmm….

Tony says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

There is no chance it will be Liriano. He just pitched yesterday.

sobersoul says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:34 pm

For Nick Punto fans… you obviously know nothing about baseball… period…

Plunkton - The edit is funny, but franchise with the cymbals is classic.
“… and he’s got nasty…”

Tom says:

Anyone now what Liriano did yesterday? Haven’t heard anything yet.

The Pro From Dover says:

This Line up better score some runs tonight.Slowey is 0-2 with a ERA over 12 this year against the Palehosers.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Roto,

you forgot a reference to Oakland’s large amounts of foul territory, Bert’s California math, Dick talking about finding random MN towns on a map.

Dean says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Off topic, but anyone else notice that Twins starting pitcher tomorrow night is listed as TBA at mlb.com Twins site? Perkins should be up. Hmmm… Just trying to fuel some trade rumors here…

SweetOne says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Regarding tomorrow’s pitcher. It was been listed as TBA since the start of the Cleveland series.

Perkins will be starting tomorrow.

herby says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

The Twins will be bombed by the Wsox because the Twins are not willing to obtain the rest of the pieces of the puzzle necessary to become better. The Twins are o.k. against the teams that are no good, but they get beat easily by the really good teams. Pohlad and Gardenhire don’t care about that, they only care about winning enough games to keep the fans paying.

Ben says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

Tom…pitched ok in the first few innings…imploded/tired as he left, gave up something like a hit a walk and a 3r HR before getting taken out, but had 9 Ks

6 IP 8 hits 4 ER 0 BB 9 K’s 102 pitches 64 for strikes

The Pro From Dover says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

Shawn,

Not to mention that “Pithers are the best athletes on the field.” and some vague reference to Bert giving up a lot of Homers and being proud of it.There probably will have to be some mention of Ron Kittle “owning” Bert also, since we are playing the White Sox.

herby says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

How does a goof like Blyleven remain on the air as a Twins announcer. His audience must be age 12 or younger and others with an IQ of less than 85.

Tom says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

Thanks Ben. Another excuse the Twins will use to keep him in the minors for two months.

Jason says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

the best reason to watch FSN north is to see how excited Dick can get on a routine fly ball.

Actually, I’m going to do a log entitled “Dick’s Deceits” for tonight’s telecast and post the results in tomorrow’s 220 Blog…I think it would be instructive to break down a complete game’s worth of spin…all in good fun, of course.

Un says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Out of curiousity, what does the L in LNP stand for?

Rotoblinders says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:53 pm

For those of you who added to my FSN post. I agree with pretty much all of that. I should change Game to 10% and the other 10% would be expected gibberish and references. Good call.

However, the bullpen singing commercial always makes me smile or laugh (depending on how many drinks I’ve had). The unintentional (or intentional) comedy with Franchise and the symbols is classic, and for some reason Twitchy Nathan’s singing to the sky are the two highlights. I also noticed the Rincon edit, and hoped that they would forget about that and leave it in.

Speaking of Rincon. Raise your hand if you got excited seeing Rincon warming up in the Cleveland pen on Sunday. *raising hand* Oh how I wanted to see him pitch. I would’ve given up at least 2 of my future children to see that. Maybe 3 if he gave up 5 runs.

Dean says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

SweetOne, you say that as if speaking on authority - do you have insider info or can you post a link to what you know? It struck me as curious only because Perkins was the only name missing over the next 5 days. All the other starters are listed in order through the Blackburn vs. Sowers rematch on Friday. Big TBA sitting there for tomorrow where Perkins name should be, and that seems odd given the rest of the lineup through the week is complete.

Rotoblinders says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

LNP = Little Nicky Punto (you can add Tiny superhero at the end).

A little homage to the now defunct Bat Girl site. I’m sure many people here were regular readers of that site.

Dean says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:55 pm

Un, it stands for “Little”, and is taken from Batgirls nickname for him, “Little Nicky Punto”. Damn, do I miss Batgirl’s blog!

Jason says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:56 pm

Best Twins commercial out there now is the radio spot which breaks down all of Joe Nathan’s mannerisms…that one’s actually pretty funny.

romer says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

Jason — “Such fans exist?”

It’s pretty decrepit of so-called Twins fans to get down on Punto. He’s valuable for the Twins this year……which is a lot more than I can say for some posters’ value to this blog.

Rotoblinders says:

July 28th, 2008 at 4:59 pm

I’d be willing to bet, even money, possibly my future children (whom I put in wagers quite often) that Jason was being sarcastic. Just a hunch.

herby’s post at 4:46 is precise and about 100% true.

The only hope for the Twins is almost-perfect starting pitching. But, lacking that, they don’t have a chance at post season.

Interesting estimates Roto. Here’s mine for tonight’s blog:

50% - Lineup whining. (60% Punto, 20% Redmond, 20$ usual complaints, 0% Mauer batting 3rd [glad that one’s dead])

15% - HAWKINS!? whining. (100% regardless of it being only a rumor)

10% - Second guessing. (90% bullpen management related)

10% - Trade demands (50% Beltre related).

5% - Jason taking potshots at bloggers/writers (100% unsolicited).

5% - Actual discussion. (75% original content)

0% - Me. I need a day off after yesterday’s tough loss. Oh wait…they WON!? I couldn’t tell after reviewing the comments.

Steve says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

I odn’t know why everyone gives Dick and Bert such a hard time. They are Minnesota through and through and I like that Dick gets so excited when things go well. Anyway, not all of D and B’s fans are under 12 w/ an IQ of under 85…I am 23 and just finished my first year of law school.

romer says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

Rotoblinders — “…Jason was being sarcastic…”

Yup. So others, not Jason.

Ben W. says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:30 pm

The one thing that bugs me most about Dick is his overexcitement when a catcher blocks a curveball in the dirt. “Great stop by Mauer! Oh what a block!” As if Mauer was totally surprised by the curve.

Shaun says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:30 pm

No way Dick and Bert are as annoying as the Hawk, even when the Hawk compliments the Twins. Thank god I can mute the Hawk and stream the Twins radio online for sound!

Aaron says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:31 pm

I agree with Steve. I am 26 and have a master’s in English and I enjoy D & B. Granted, Bert’s misuse of the word “good” starts irking me after a while. (ie. Boy, they are sure swinging the bats good tonight!)

romer says:

And of course it’s been Gardenhire calling for another reliever and a RH bat.

Want to win the AL Central?
1) Call up Liriano NOW
2) Trade Delmon Young and Kevin Slowey to the BosSox for Manny and a prospect.
3) Release Lamb, Everett and Monroe
4) Bring up Macri and platoon him at 3rd with Buscher
5) Trade Bonser to a National League team which desperately needs pitchers like the Phillies for prospects.
6) Shift Span to left field.

Regarding tomorrow’s starter being TBA, I could have sworn it did say Perkins yesterday, but I could be mistaken, if someone says it’s been listed that way for a while. Not sure why that would be the case though, since they’ve got Wednesday-Friday’s starters listed correctly.

Steve says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

That’s not what I want to hear Walter…

I agree that Bert should probably start using well rather than good, but I think we could have a lot worse. In undergrad I had mlb.tv and I had to mute it and just watch from time to time because other crews were so awful.

tomjh says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

Twins fan since ‘61:

1) He’ll get about 10 starts before the end of the year. Not a huge impact, but definitely an improvement.

2) Not gonna happen…ever.

3) Everett…maybe, but the other two are here to stay. Sorry.

4) Macri (AAA) vs. LHP: .203/.243/.348. Not exactly a platoon guy.

5) This could happen, but it would be hard since he hasn’t been starting for several weeks.

6) Span’s defense would be completely wasted in left field, and his offense is nowhere near what it needs to be for a corner outfielder.

I’m not saying I disagree with you that some of these (1, 5) would be good ideas. I’m just doubtful that they will happen OR have the impact that some people envision them having.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

Steve,

i live in NY, i get a heavy dose of Sterling or Kay if i want to check into a non twins game…. or when i am stuck with them when the Twins play the Yanks

eaa says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:52 pm

Cool Romer.

Looking at the six item list to win the pennett, if we traded Young and Slowey for Manny (which they wouldn’t do in the first place) that would leave us with no Garza, no Bartlett, no Young, and no Manny after the season since he obviously wouldn’t stick around. Plus no Slowey. I’m guessing Twins management wouldn’t want to have to explain that nearly every day in the media.

Trading Young and Slowey for Manny AND a prospect…

Wow i haven’t laughed like that for a while.

Here’s another trade Idea, lets trade Buscher Boof and Lamb to the Yankees for A-Rod. Or how about Bass, Monroe and Delmon for Chase Utley.

Yeah that sounds good.

dan at work says:

eaa says:

I’d hold out for Utley and a prospect.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

July 28th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

trading for manny…. he could stay if we controlled the options…. because manny is a 10 and 5 guy would probably have to negotiate with him.

of course the Twins wouldn’t want that salary for more than 1 year, making value given up too high

The Pro From Dover says:

July 28th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

tomjh,

Actually Span would be better suited for LF than right at the dome. The domes leftfield is much larger, and he wouldn’t have the long throw from RF to third (his arm is average at best). But there is no way the Twins are going to switch DY back to right after moving him to LF this year, unless maybe Cuddy is done for the year.Once Cuddy comes back I think Gardy will go with some kind of 4 man outfield platoon. If they stay in the race and Span continues to out perform Go-Go,Span could see alot of time in CF.

Here’s an idea to win the division…

Trade:

Livan for Lincecum
Baker for Volquez
Slowey for Cliff Lee
Blackburn for Duchscherer
Perkins for James Shields

Casilla for Kinsler
Harris/Punto for Hanley
Buscher/Lamb for Longoria
Delmon for Braun
Gomez/Span for Sizemore
Cuddyer/Kubel for Hamilton
Boof/Bass for Dunn (DH)

We should be able to win there, and we don’t take on anyone too expensive. Sounds good to me.

Bill Brasky says:

I love it. Punto gets bunt single yesterday because the 3rd baseman played it a like a Little Leaguer so he finds his way into the line-up. Let’s not forget his Roger Dorn olay in the 8th yesterday that gave the Tribe a run.

Beurhle or not he has no business playing. Again, all I do is laugh (out loud) when I see his name in the line-up. It’s comical.

no Bill, not unless we can get him signed and someone dropped from the roster before game time

mj1 says:

July 28th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

not that it makes any difference now, but i bet that had the twins left gomez in AAA this spring and brought up span, as it was almost a toss up as to who stayed in AAA, but the twins were so caught up in the speed thing and the big trade, they almost had to play him, but that decision alone is probably the difference in them being in 2nd place rather than leading the division tonite going into this game…

Shawn in Binghamton says:

July 28th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

okobojicat says:

July 28th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Wow, a lot of ridiculous on here today.

mj1: How about giving the Twins players, Gardenhire, and Smith a little credit for playing beyond expectations and competing this year and thus being in a position to think about picking up a veteran player? There is no good fit for the Twins as the only impact bat being dumped is Beltre and he is pretty expensive.

Also, Span had no claim to be the starter in April as he had had numerous unproductive years in the minors. His numbers this year reflect original expectations, but he had never shown promise in the minors of ever producing like this.

Bill, Punto is playing because he provides very good defense and he’s been successful against Buehrle. Punto is no the answer at 3B but he can play some SS, and he’s hitting as well as he his, he does make the team better.

When Cuddyer comes back (which even from LEN3’s update above looks to be at least 2 weeks away) I believe Monroe will be the man out as the other 5 OF (Span, Gomez, Kubel, Cuddyer and Young) all rotate in an out of DH.

I don’t think we want Utley. Bad clubhouse guy and we don’t have a spot to play him. I guess we could move him over to 1B, as he played there some last year when Howard was hurt.

Capt Bogs says:

July 28th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

This is going to be unpopular…

There is no way any of us knows whether Dye’s drive was fair or foul. That happens at the foul pole, not when the ball comes back into view as it descends into the stands. It was hooking and could easily have been fair at the foul pole.

It just shows how difficult the instant replay will be if MLB just uses the cameras we have out there now rather than the type of computer generated replay that tennis uses. I heard that that needs more than 20 cameras on a small area. Who knows how many cameras we will need on a baseball field if we want the replay system to be accurate.

eaa says:

July 28th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Capt: I do agree with you about replay. Hate it and you raise excellent points.

However, we do know that was foul. Yes balls hook but that was obviously hooking before the pole. Dye knew it. Did you see his reaction? He even laughed with the ump.

Your point on replay is well taken.

eaa says:

July 28th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Here we go Capt!!! How about this one!

July 28th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

Willie Norwood says:

July 28th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

You know, if we had a credible right-handed power or average or (gasp) power/average hitter this team would be pretty good.

I hope Billy Salad Bar is working the phones to find a quality right hand bat. It is kind of hard to believe that they can’t find a hitter from within the system.

Nothing I’ve seen has dissuaded me from the idea that the Twins can win the division and play well in the playoffs…except for a tweak that is a right handed bat with power. If Billy, Carl, Jim P. etc. don’t act I will really be upset. The brass ring only comes around every few years.

Speaking of right handed hitters, Randy Ruiz is hitting .312/.358/.514 for Rochester.

Ben W. says:

True, schurik, but once Cuddyer comes back Craig Monroe won’t have any position either.

Beltre and Putz (they don’t need him if they are rebuilding) for DY, Lamb, and Korecky and if necessary another prospect.

We get 3b and a setup man. They get a potential all star OF and a new closer and someone to fill 3b while they rebuild.

With all due respect,

eaa says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Oh my God not the trade talk again. How about the rights to Kirby Puckett for A Rod, Jeter and a top prospect?

“5.41 ERA is better than which current relievers on the Twins?”

Ben W. says:

Beltre gets something like 13 mil for next year and the Twins would probably have to pay 5 or 6 mil for the rest of this year. I’m sure Putz is well paid too.

Just trying to keep it real here folks. People want Bill to do something, but all they want to give up are Lamb, Boof, Bass, Livan, Everett…

I have been (and still am) a DY fan (and one of the few remaining Gomez fans), but much of this blog site believes we can be a contender with a RH power hitting 3b and a good setup man. I don’t necessarily agree with that, but am willing to play along with the idea.

So, if you want improvements for the short term you gotta give up something that the M’s want. Put yourself in their shoes and look at what we have to offer and come up with a legitimate trade. That’s all I was doing.

Interestingly half the response believe we are getting a steal and the other half think I am nuts. Generally, that is when you have a fair trade. LOL

Ben W. says:

Carlos, no offense intended. It’s nowhere near the worst trade idea I’ve seen thrown out here.

Just remember that in coming up with a trade you have to put yourself in the Pohlads’ expensive Italian loafers and keep payroll at the front of your mind.

Carlos G says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Ben,
I take no offense on these sites. And, this is the type of trade that the “win it all now” folks would want to make. As I’ve said many times in the past, I like “this team”.

I just get weary of all the trade Cuddy and Livan for player ‘x’ proposals. You have to expect the other GM isn’t drunk or stupid.

I am fine riding this team for this year. My goal is 2010 (also previously stated many times).

Mudcat says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

White Sox should have played their “Beat Kevin Slowey” lineup! ! !

scooter says:

Here’s to everyone saying they’d give up slowey for Beltre or demote him to the bullpen to make room for Liriano. And to everybody who complained about Redmond being in the lineup too.

I just saw a stat that said Chicago scores 1.6 runs/game when they don’t hit a home run.

Masterful.

Brilliant performance. What a ballgame.

Haha

If you can get ANY team to take LNP then I’m all for it. :)

The trade is interesting. After tonight we have a winning record against lefties, something like 17-15? So why the rush to make a trade for a guy that costs 13 million for the next two years and ML contributing players?

I mean for a team that was supposed to finish last in their division, the team is doing pretty well.

Carlos G says:

In other words, I am just tossing out realistic proposals to get the players some people are demanding and expecting to get for junk… that ain’t happening either.

AaronK says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

Difference between Slowey tonight and the previous starts is very simple…he didn’t just throw cutters. He mixed in a LOT of sliders and he did it early and late in counts. He also busted hitters inside.

This was a very different Slowey. I said last time he needs to develop another + pitch to be a good MLB starter. Well, tonight he had that pitch and he wasn’t afraid to throw it for once. If he can continue throwing that slider over for strikes and attacking hitters inside he will be an outstanding starter.

He needs to prove he can do it constantly.

AaronK says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:48 pm

On Gomez…

Anyone who has been paying attention to his AB’s for the last few weeks would have noticed how much better he has been. He has been swinging at much better pitches and he has hit a lot of balls hard. Not much is falling for him, but the key is his approach is 100% better. He is still our best long term OF imo.

JP says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:49 pm

Punto also has gone 2-23 with 6 SO and 2 GIDP since coming off the DL and an error in the field. But I won’t get started on Punto after a nice win.

JP says:

July 28th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

OOPS make that 2-23 for LNP.

scooter says:

Hmmm…

Claim 1: Gomez is cry baby who will probably be out for another week.

Result 1: Gomez gets PH single.

Claim 2: Gardy is an idiot for putting Redmond in the lineup.

Results 2: Redmond is 2 for 3.

—–

Claim 3: Thank god Monroe’s in the lineup rather than Kubel.

Results 3: Monroe 0-3, including an inning ending DP and an out in the first rally.

—–

Claim 4: Blah blah blah Punto. Wah wah Harris.

Results 4: Combined 2-8. Punto comes in on the Span dinger. Harris with a 2-run double.

Thank god Punto only got the one hit. Otherwise fans wouldn’t have anything to rip on Gardy for after this game.

Carlos G says:

July 28th, 2008 at 10:02 pm

I am preparing for August 1 when the anger will be high on this site.

I anticipate that we won’t see a significant trade and it isn’t because we don’t want to. I also anticipate that half this blog will go crazy on August 1 when we don’t have their particular favorite new player to fill their particular big hole in the lineup.

It most likely won’t happen because in order to get quality players, you have to give up something (and that something doesn’t include our spare parts, soon to be DFA’s players, or bad contracts).

Basically, I am trying to suggest some of the minimums we need to offer to get the quality being demanded. It will require one of the young OFs (DY or Span) or one of the young SPs or both and prospects to get someone like Beltre and a setup man. Some people would make the move as they see that as a positive to win now. Others look at the long term.

For the record, I like this team.

thrylos98 says:

For the record, I do too. Well mostly. I think Lamb and Boof are black holes on the roster. But its been fun so far following the twins. I also think we could use an upgrade from Bass to someone better, whether that be through trade or not I’m not sure. Wish Macri was up here.

And as much as i’d like to see a trade, if the asking price is too high, i’m not for trading the future for now. those trades are always hit or miss.

mike wants wins says:

July 28th, 2008 at 10:11 pm

Carlos G: I also think they won’t make a trade. But, I expect that, and since it is what they did all the time earlier this decade, I’ve come to the conclusion that is part of the price I pay for being a Twins fan. Just gotta live with it. It will frustrate me occasionally, but I’ve learned to just let that frustration go pretty quickly, because in the end it isn’t that big a deal if they win it all or not.

And please, if I ever interview with any of you for a comm job, just forget that “paragraph” above. :)

JP,
I agree. We can improve from within by bringing up Frankie now. And, if anyone wants to give up a prospect for someone about to be DFA’d, I am for that too.

mike,
I think you are correct. It takes a different mindset to pull the trigger on a couple of “win now” type of players for a couple of high ceiling type players.

If you are wrong (Herschell Walker), then you may never recover. If you are right, (Sabathia maybe?), then you are a hero.

No guarantees. Just gotta take your shots when you think the time is right and the risk is right.

They’d still need to dump somebody. My money’s on Lamb.

But hey…since I’m all about some fun postulating (does that mean theorizing?)

No kidding. If you would’ve told me that the Twins pitching staff would only have 2 CG shutouts at this point I’d believe you.

But if you’d have told me then they’d both be by Slowey?

No way I’d buy that.

This was just an awesome game to watch on TV. Wish I could have made it to the Metrodome for this gem…

Everett will be with the team but not activated from the DL. He is just out of time on his rehab stint. I expect he will be DFAed soon.

Mostly missed the game. And all the posts.

WTF? The Slowster is a major leaguer? Ya think?!!!?!!

So is there any official news on Everett? According to reports last night Twins were going to make something official following the game.

A pig soars by my office window.”

T,

It could happen.

Besides my love for the Twins, I am a HUGE European Soccer supporter.

From my ALL name team. Cievo of Verona (Italy, doh!) spent years in the lower levels of Italian soccer. their crosstown rivals Verona FC were the Big Dogs in town, and in Serie A (Top League). Verona supporters would jeer at Chievo supporters that “Donkeys will fly” before Chievo is in Serie A.

Moral of the story 4/5 years ago Chievo were promoted to Serie A. They took the nickname “Flying Donkeys” :-).

Watch out for that pig :-)

I read somewhere that Everett can only stay on the DL with his permission, now that he has completed his rehab. If that report is accurate, I think Everett would decline. If he is healthy, I am sure he wants to play. It’s time to activate him. The Twins could use some depth at SS.

Last year at this time, I was advocating a trade just to show the players and fans that mgt. was trying to improve the team. Now, I am advocating no trades unless they really make an upgrade to the team. Someone mentioned the other day that a Cuddy move back to third and keeping the outfield as is now would be good. I agree. The current outfield will soon be the best in the majors. Everett, Lamb and Monroe could all be traded/released but not for LaTroy. Also, for the record, I am a Punto fan.

Oh the 2 joys in life to watch at night. The Twins beating AJ and the White Sox. The second watching the Red Sox getting beaten by the Angels. Oh the joy the joy. Did anyone see Casey Blake and Joe Torre get thrown out of last nights game. Hey where is bacon bit. I don’t hear his cheers about the Nation. Hmm I can’t wait to watch the Red Sox lose Manny and then get swept by the Angels. The Nation will be crying. Boo hoo the Nation. LOL

When’s Atkins get into town?

the Dragon says:

July 29th, 2008 at 9:38 am

Chris,

Why would Rockies trade Atkins?

They are “HOT”! They are only 6 out in a very weak division, which they will probably win.

Some of you wanted to trade Slowey or send him to the minors, anybody change their mind now.So many of these trade idea are based on a fantasy league mind frame. But a Everret+ package for LaRouche makes sense.

Craig,
I think internet gambling is prohibited, but I’ll bet you 20 (or 20 million) imaginary dollars that Harris will outlast Everett as a Twin.

The wind whipping through LaPanta’s rug while on a boat at the Dells really creeped me out.

Who’s gonna take Everett? Didn’t Smith give him 4.5mil…

I think all we need is Liriano up and Perkins playing setup in the 8th. Perkins is the only starter other than Liriano who’s got dominating stuff with a high end Fastball.

Tony says:

I thought Everett was a little closer to 2.8 million.

I laughed. Any update on Everett?

I’m guessing he’s released. I also think that Monroe is released when Cuddy is healthy. Anyone disagree?

That wind could have blown the squirrel into the water. Nothing creepier than watching a squirrel drown.

Craig - The creepy part for us was it was in your bathtub. I’m going to give PETA an anonymous tip about you.

The New and Improved Craig says:

That’s not a squirrel in my bathtub, that’s an accumulation of fuzz from my navel. Same size though, so you just made an honest mistake, jake.

Ok. Back to business.

No Everett news?

No comment on releasing Monroe once Cuddy is available to come off the DL?

JustinCB says:

July 29th, 2008 at 2:36 pm

I haven’t read anything about them releasing Monroe. Maybe Everett if they can’t trade him somewhere, but I think they’ll probably hold on to Monroe and continue using him in that lefty pinch hit role. I still say that even if Monroe hasn’t really done it much this year, the fact that he at least used to have the potential to hit the ball is better their alternatives coming off the bench.

Lavelle, what is the deal with the Twins dominican summer league team? Are they Twins property? Some good numbers on some of the guys but I’m just wondering if it’s more high school level than pro level.
