Twins-Royals: Neshek news

Posted on August 9th, 2008 – 4:48 PM
By La Velle

Righthander Pat Neshek has begun a throwing program in Fort Myers, Fla. The Twins officially don’t expect him back this year, but if he works his way up to getting on a mound late this month and says, `I feel g-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-eat,” then the Twins will consider using him down the stretch. The big hurdle will be to find him work, since minor league seasons will completed by then.

If he’s not ready, he will continue workouts and pitch to batters in instructional league in October, then get ready for spring training 2009. I tend to believe that this is what will happen.

I spoke with Michael Cuddyer today. He’s bummed out about his broken foot but isn’t giving up on the season. He’s been told that, in most cases, it takes 4-6 weeks for the bone to heal. Even if its for the last two weeks of the season, Cuddy wants to try to contribute.

Lineup

Twins (64-51): 1. Denard Span, RF. 2. Nick Punto, 2B. 3. Joe Mauer, C. 4. Justin Morneau, 1B. 5. Jason Kubel, DH. 6. Delmon Young, LF. 7. Brian Buscher, 3B. 8. Adam Everett, SS. 9.  Carlos Gomez, CF. Pitching: Francisco Liriano.

Royals (53-63): 1. Mike Aviles, SS. 2. David DeJesus, CF. 3. Billy Butler, SS. 4. Jose Guillen, LF. 5. Miguel Olivo, DH. 6. Alex Gordon, 3B. 7. Mark Teahen, RF. 8. John Buck, C. 9. Esteban German, 2B. Pitching: Zack Greinke.

La Velle, I know we can’t talk about playo.f.. but could Cuddyer play if we got that far? Or what is the rule on rostering players for the playo.f.?

Tony K says:

Why is Everett in the lineup again? Bat anybody instead of him.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:02 pm

players can play in the playoffs at any time as long as they are in the system by sept 1….. i think

i know k-rod didn’t even get called up until mid sept 02 and he was very prominent in the playoffs

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:03 pm

Everett is in the lineup for glove purposes

fcmlefty says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:09 pm

They have to set the playoff roster on Sept 1st. After that you can swap out injured players (players for players, pitchers for pitchers only). Because of this, you’ll see Cuddyer, Tolbert and Nesheck on the playoff roster. Then, on Sept. 29th, they can sub in the three best players/pitchers to take these spots.

They’ll also move to a 14 player/11 pitcher roster make up at that point. Since Nesheck will be one of the 11 pitchers on the roster, at the end of september, they’ll essentially have to pick the “hottest hand” to fill the 11th spot

Kaptain Amerika says:

I’d worry more about Gomez than Everett.
Bases loaded twice and the Twins got nothing, now that is a brutal bat

Adam says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Shawn: the glove is irrelevant if he has to 2 hop it to 1st every time he throws over….

stinky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

remember when Gomez hit for the cycle! Man, those were the days…

Kaptain Amerika says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:12 pm

stinky that was so long ago it almost feels like it didn’t happen

Brock says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

His arm has been perfectly fine since he returned, his arm was awful because of the shoulder injury earlier. Have you even watched the games?

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

with Buscher at 3rd, you almost have to use Everett, to even it out.

Captain America says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Admire Cuddy’s determination but his foot will have to be immobilized for a while. During which time his foot muscles will be atrophied. Then comes physical therapy to bring flexibility back to the point of being about to move around. In short, don’t expect anything this remaining season.

stinky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

“Mauer and fellow All-Star Justin Morneau have also had no luck against Saturday’s scheduled starter Zack Greinke (9-7, 3.93). Mauer is 3-for-19 (.158) in his career against Greinke, while Morneau is batting .190 (4-for-21) with two doubles lifetime versus him.” from yahoo.

dianna says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

Okay..thanks. That’s what I expected. One of the posse members was reporting that Neshak was going to pitch for the Miracle on Monday and I said I doubted he was that far along in his rehab program. I imagine he’s coming for bobblelection and to add to our amusements in the stands.

SoCal Twins Fan says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

This should be a low scoring game tonight (afternoon for me/us) - Liriano should go 6 or 7 innings and keep them at less than 3 runs BUT Grienke will do likewise - let’s hope we can bust this one open early (however, the Twins are NOT a 1-6 innings hitting team - yahoo MLB stats).

birdofprey says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Dianna,

Name the three “surest bets” on the Miracle. And who do you compare each to? Thanks.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

the Miracle did some hittin today

birdofprey says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

My guess: Ramos, Guerra, and Robertson.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:41 pm

Slama?

Gutierrez look good today?

thor von clemson says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:47 pm

It doesn’t even the lineup out since Everett can neither hit nor play D. What has he got…5 errors…and hops every throw to first.

SoCal Twins Fan says:

August 9th, 2008 at 5:51 pm

I used to live in Houston (1996 - 2000) and remember Everett as a weak hitter but when he got hot it was “kewl” - very good D and low hitting average. Had he averaged .270 or more, he’d still be in Houston. He did have a knack to be a not-so-bad clutch hitter though.

T-Mouse says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:00 pm

T-Mouse has predicted elsewhere in blogville that in any game that both Adam Everett and Brian Bass pay, I am guarateeing a loss.

Everett is a combination of Houston Jimenez and Lenny Faedo. When you’re playing playoff baseball, having good fielding stats doesn’t cut it. Everett at age 31 is on a production downswing from a very low initial perch.

The Twins should begin an indirect platoon of Gomez vs. lefties and Kubel vs. righties. In the former scenario, you play C-Los in center. In the latter scenario, you play Denard in center and Kubel in right.

Gomez is not productive at a major league level against righties. His very poor eye at the plate does not make it mathematically smart to put him in there against righties.

We have to make moves like this if we want to compete with the top teams in the AL.

You cannot have Gomez hitting against righties, Everett sending weak grounders from the plate, and Bass called on for a clean inning. . and expect to compete with the Redsox, Rays, Yanks, or Angels.

We need to cast a cold eye and see things as they are.

So says T-Mouse.

sid says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:15 pm

“So says T-Mouse.”

So cares nobody.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:15 pm

Good news about Neshek, but I’d almost rather see him take his time and come back next year vs. rushing anything and risk more premanent damage.

He hasn’t played in what…four months now?

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:17 pm

Captain America,

2 K’s is brutal, BUT I seem to remember a series in Tampa last year, and 1 game in particular where in that game Mauer, Morneau and Hunter EACH left at least 10 runners on base, NOT ONE of these 20yr olds making minimum could produce as much as a sac fly. Don’t know why Hunter got $90 mil contract, Don’t know why Morneau got a $60 mil+ contract, and Mauer just signed a $30+ mil contract. I guess screwing up with the bases loaded by a 2nd year guy NEVER happened before by better players. (sarcasm intended).

Regards,

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:20 pm

My favorite is Hunter hitting into two inning-ending double plays in two consecutive innings (with the bases loaded)

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:21 pm

Go sit down Punto….yeesh.

markinmn says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:21 pm

T-Mouse- If you put Kubel in the outfield and sit Gomez–I’m assuming you are calling for an outfield of Young, Span and Kubel…you really want Kubel and Young playing in the outfield together against every RH starter?? That is a lot of games…Have you seen the defense played this year by Young and Kubel??

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:23 pm

Will Punto find himself on the bench tomorrow because of that blunder?? Of course not. Any other player would get lambasted for doing that except LNP.

Keep running him out there every day Gardy. You’re a fraud.

Nora says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:23 pm

Thanks alot Punto. Bonehead cost us a run.

Nora says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Of course that outfieler makes a great catch after that. Figures.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Brasky, just out of curiosity…if you sit Punto, are you fully accepting that Harris will play 2nd?

Remember everybody, Punto’s the only guy who ever makes baserunning errors.

onslow says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:25 pm

It’s getting to the point that the Twins may need to start looking to trade Mike Cuddyer. He couldn’t play 3rd and can’t seem to stay healthy in right. Denard Span has done a wonderful job as his replacement. Please trade Mike Cuddyer!

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

onslow…after his injury plauged season, I doubt you’d find many takers.

Or get much back.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

Looks like punto wants to take over this game. Really dumb mistake.

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

Was that a screwed up hit and run?

That’s sure what it looked like, didn’t look like a steal attempt.

Regards,

onslow says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

This is true T, this is true. Good point.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Punto forgot what the count was, simple as that.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Everett’s arm costing a baserunner. Good thing Harris is on the bench…too bad he can’t come in for both.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Put an orange traffic cone out at 2B instead of Pun-terrible…I don’t care. He’s a joke. Don’t worry though, the FO will reward him with a nice contract at the end of the year.

They should change the team name to the Fighting Puntos.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Dragon, Punto thought that it was ball four and held up.

Anthony says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

Everett is weak

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

Why would you hit and run with 2 strikes??

thor von clemson says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Yeah so where are the people convinced that everett should be in for his fielding “ability”. Only the Twins would play a guy who hits like Juan Castro and fields like Tony Batista.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Why would you hit and run with 2 strikes??

Because Gardy’s a moron. Just go back to your corner kthxbye.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

Liriano needs some big Ks now

Nora says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

Great, Liriano is not starting out very well. Hopefully he can get out of this.

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

Looks like the April Liriano tonight.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

Everett still has range, Everett just doesn’t have any gas on his arm.

Harris could come in for Everett, but that leaves Punto in. Harris could come in for Punto, but there’s only one of him.

Face it, one of either Punto or Everett will have to be in the lineup until Casilla gets back.

Besides, you should be glad they’re both in. Otherwise you wouldn’t have anything to come here and talk about. Lord knows you can’t actually talk about anything but those two…

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

That is what they call a slider.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:32 pm

Even Gardy isn’t dumb enough to hit and run with 2 strikes. You don’t force a guy like Mauer to possibly swing at a pitch out of the zone with 2 strikes. LNP forgot the count. When that happened on my high school or college teams, you found yourself sitting next to the coach the rest of the game. Not LNP though. He’ll play every game the rest of the season.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:33 pm

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:33 pm

Strike out time now

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:34 pm

He’ll play every game the rest of the season.

Until Casilla comes back.

But like I said, Harris could come in for Punto or Everett and you’d still rejoice because you don’t know enough about baseball to carry a conversation otherwise.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:34 pm

I’m warming up for UFC. I might just jump in the ring againt Brock if I gotta. ;)

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:34 pm

Bill B.

With Mauer at bat, ABSOLUTELY. He controls the bat well, and hits into a double play on occasion.

With me batting…NEVER,

Regards,

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Time for another strike out

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:35 pm

That runner on third is on Everett unfortuantely. Hopefully Liriano can hunker down and finish this off.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:36 pm

How do you appeal a suspension when everybody’s got you on camera rushing the mound?

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Big Ks for the kid, man he can pitch well out of the stretch!

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Bill B.

I’d bench Mauer & Morneau…couldn’t get a runner in from 3rd with 1 out. Isn’t that what they make the BIG BUCKS for?

Regards,

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

I see luke hughes is hitting .314 in AAA now…

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Pitching around Kubel for no apparent reason…I like it.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Hopefully Liriano can settle down now after that inning.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:40 pm

OK…if you think you can put on a hit and run with 2 strikes, you don’t deserve to post on this message. I’m going to guarantee you it NEVER happens. There isn’t a Manager on this planet that would do that.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Dragon,

I’m assuming you’re posts are tongue in cheek.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Gardy has said that he doesn’t put the hit and run on with mauer at the plate. HUGE HR!

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:41 pm

There isn’t a Manager on this planet that would do that.

But I thought Gardy was the biggest moron of all time…costing this team at least 7 wins a season.

————-

Nice hit there Young. Twins needed that after the 1st.

Nora says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

Keep talking about HRs, Dick. LOL

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

I don’t know why Young is in the game.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Hit and run works twice. With Punto and Everett of all people. ;)

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Anyone remember when Dick wore that cowboy hat and the team rallied and scored a bunch of runs?

LasVegasDave says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Every other game… yes, he is the ONLY guy who does that.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

“I don’t know why Young is in the game.”

Classic!

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:44 pm

“Even Gardy isn’t dumb enough to hit and run with 2 strikes.”

It was run-and-hit, not hit-and-run.
Mauer is supposed to swing at strikes only.
Punt lost count and should have stolen 2B as his part of the play.

Plus, I’m guessing that Punto was afraid to slide head-first (the only way he knows how) for fear of getting skewered on the blogs.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

The Hunter.

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Bill,

Actually, when I watched the replay, AND the way Punto was not going full out (implying a steal) that is all that makes sense. Other thought was Punto stopped mid way, expecting a “balk” to be called.

Regards,

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Hit a HR Denard!

Nora says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Gomez needs a few days on the bench. The pitcher does not even have to throw strikes to him anymore.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Well, bench Buscher for the rest of the game.

So now Punto and Buscher are both out.

Oh crap, Ruiz at 3B then?

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

And the royals give the twins a free out. Let’s see if punto can respond…

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:48 pm

If anything, Punto just needs to get back on base to make up for it.

M&M are the ones who have to make up for their ABs.

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:49 pm

“Punto stopped mid way, expecting a “balk” to be called.”

Assuming a balk call is more stupid than losing the count, but Punto WAS guilty of losing the count, so anything is possible.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

At least Punto can hit his batting helmet…

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Buscher’s mistake is a little more forgiving. He was probably told to go on a ground ball because they would probably turn 2. Not his fault. Punto’s blunderwas 100% his fault.

Nora says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:51 pm

Mauer didn’t make Punto make a base running error. That was Puntos fault

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:51 pm

So based on events so far…

Tomorrows infield:
Morneau/Harris/Everett/Lamb

Tomorrows outfield:
Young/Span/Kubel

DH:
Ruiz

C:
Redmond

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

T,
“Well, bench Buscher for the rest of the game.”

Buscher made the correct play with one out.
Stop the DP!

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

Mauer then struck out with a runner on third.

He was probably told to go on a ground ball because they would probably turn 2.

Oh right.

FIRE ULGER!

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Good to see that Gomez played that single into a double

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Ouch. Gotta let Span grab that if you can’t Gomez.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

gomez needs to sit

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

“FIRE ULGER!’

Ulger and Buscher were both correct.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

T,

Have you ever played baseball?

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Ulger and Buscher were both correct.

What? Are you there MOM or something!?

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

3rd K

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Have you ever played baseball?

Have you ever heard of sarcasm?

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

50% quality starts. That’s good. Though I’m curious how far from quality the rest were. (We know how three of them were)

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

“What? Are you there MOM or something!?”

They were twins, 20 years apart.
It was a very difficult birth.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:57 pm

“It was a very difficult birth.”

I can only imagine…

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:57 pm

Going position by position, how are the Twins looking HR wise comparred to last season?

LF has got to be an upgrade considering it was White/Tyner out there usually.

CF would be a downgrade, as would RF at this point.

3B would have to be an upgrade considering Punto hit all of one or two and Buscher maybe got a couple.

SS I think is an upgrade.

2B I think is upgrade.

1B is behind last year’s pace. But I think Mauer has more.

So while position by position I think it’s upgraded, the two downgrades (CF/RF) are essentially the difference.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Man Liriano’s change up dances…

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

It was a very difficult birth.

Makes sense. Ulger would come out first and then hold Buscher too long.

Bill Brasky says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Best thing about Liriano so far…He’s been money in a jam. He’s not getting rattled with guys in scoring position.

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Liriano pitches around the extra base by Gomez. So far he’s picked up his defense twice.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Liriano has much better control in this game then on sunday

the Dragon says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:00 pm

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

38 pitches, 23 strikes

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:02 pm

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

WOW…Morneau looked ugly there.

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

If Liriano doesn’t pitch to contact BEFORE TWO STRIKES, he will not be able to go past the 7th inning.

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

Bert Blyleven’s ONLY TWO HR calls.
1) He dropped the bat head.
2) He didn’t miss it.

Bert is where creativity goes to die.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

There is your pitch to contact

sane says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

One pitch out!
That’s how you rest your bullpen!
Keep pitching to contact before strike two!

T says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

There we go. Good comeback ining.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

quick inning, no laboring…

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:21 pm

All that throwing over to first turns out to be a waste of time

Mudcat says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:21 pm

Right Gatty. White Sox let Andrew Dice Clay Matsuzaka off the hook last inning. Maybe Red Sox could quit whining and get a bunch of runs tonight.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Another stupid base running move. At least Span will lead off the next inning.

Mudcat says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

That’s BS! I missed the replay, what was it?

Nick34 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Gomez is self emploding in other aspects of the game besides hitting. Wish Cuddy was comming up so Gomez can get more seasoning at AAA.

Mudcat says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

Now I’m wondering if Cuddyer’s career might be in jeopardy. Twins don’t have all the bad luck, White Sox lost someone also. (Contreras, achilles tear.)

The Twins right now are refusing to have a good at bat

Mudcat says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Punto’s base running gaffe reminded me of a play in today’s State Legion Tournament. The kid stole second and the second baseman told him to go back, it was a foul ball. So he did! It wasn’t and they picked him off. Except they threw the ball into center and he dived back into second anyway.

Naturally, that could never happen to major leaguers.

gatty790 says:

August 9th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

“Contreras out is a good thing for the Twins, no doubt about it.”

Especially if it means more starts for Clayton Richard–the guy who started for Contreras when he was on the DL…0-2 with an era of 10.38

Red Sox tied it- 1-1 after 5 1/2

But, Mauer needs to tackle Olivo or Buscher needs to get to Olivo before he gets to the pitcher. We need our pitchers… unless boof is in by then. He can protect himself.

Mike Grimes says:

Mike Grimes says:

Bean balls throws to first and intentinal walks to face the MVP with the bases loaded?

Carlos G says:

Ibanez on the leader board for RBIs. He got roughly one-seventh of those in two games against us.

Nora says:

Willie Norwood says:

August 9th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Peggy Fair. One of the first major African-American roles on television.

Ok, baseball topic:

Gardy— Boof, if you get your head into this you can take your prodigious derriere out there for one inning, throw that prodigious derriere behind a 94 mph fastball then drop that awesome hooky over to get them out. For just one inning. You will make much more money doing thus. Go get ‘em.

BOOF: I’m a starter, Skip.

I think this guy’s problem is in his head. He need to talk to Joe Nathan and pay attention. Joe can show him his nice mansion in Minny.

Hey Shawn,
thanks for asking. They held a Coon Rapids was up 1-0, but couldn’t hold off the hitting of Rapid City team. Ended up a loss 7-1. I had a great nephew on the CR team.

It was nice for SD… first time ever for a So Dak team to the LL World Series.

Willie Norwood says:

August 9th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

I am doing a novena and lighting candles in church tomorrow for Casilla’s recovery. Even as a righthander only he is an improvement over LNP.

I can’t wait until LNP is at SS and batting 8 or 9. He really is overmatched in the 2 hole. If Harris is in the lineup he should slide up there. Crap, even Gomez would make me feel better batting 2nd. And no, I’m not drunk…yet.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

August 9th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

which one is your nephew?

Punto makes my head hurt. It’s painful to watch.

But I’m not mad at Punto. My beef if with the Twins front office, who watched Casilla go down, with time before the trade deadline to do something about it, but chose instead to leave their manager with 3 middle infielders–Punto, Harris, sort of, and Everett–and be happy to play the season out that way.

Bill Smith seems to me to be doing everything in his power to make this as tough as possible.

Would it have killed them to go out and get Grudzelanek? Could’ve been done, had time to do it, but no.

The prosecution rests. Now to “T” for the defense.

Those 12 year olds play some pretty amazing ball. I was there in 95. Since then they doubled the number of teams that come to the WS (from 8 to 16) and they added another stadium — where they had a grass parking lot. So, not sure how the parking would be.

They have a pretty cool LL museum, but you might just want to take in 3-4 games.

We probably would have went had CR advanced. It’s good to have a reason when you are this far away, but I’d like to do it again.

Daniel,

I am working NOT to jinx. AFC Wimbledon won their maiden start in the Blue Square South this morning beating Newport County 4-1 away.

Over the past several years there has been a strong co-relation between AFC wins/losses and Twins wins/losses on the same day.

I just never know if the football(soccer) Gods and the Baseball Gods are having a BBQ or something, and might consider changing things :-)

On a more serious note… If the lads can come through tomorrow this would be a 4-2 road trip…something that going into it would probably be acceptable and after game 2 of the Seattle series would have been welcome. One nice thing about the way the rotation lines up now is that we don’t seem to have a “hold your breath” starter anymore and they seem to be building off of each other. This is not to be underestimated.

I am a little concerned that Gardy will watch Boof’s outing tonight and proclaim him the long reliever. I believe, and have for a while, that this guy has the stuff to be an 8th inning stalwart, at least the 7th inning guy, if he was told that that was his role. If Gardy plays his head games right he may have found the answer to Neshek. I would not be pissed if they at least tried it for a week. Nothing tried, nothing gained.

Daniel1966 says:

Thank you, Mr. Dragon. I was worried about that correlation! I want you know that the results of the AFC Wimbledon match were troubling many of us. LOL. Your presence is much appreciated. That said, Good night, Alice. Good night, Ralph. And pleasant dreams, you first place Twins!!

Kevin S. says:

August 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

Yeah Willie if Boof can mentally wrap himself into the role, his duece can make him an effective setup option.

It’s possible…

If the Twins win the remainder of their series (2 out of 3 game series and 3 out of 4 game series) they will have 96 wins. If they win the three game series 2 and 1 and split the four game series they will win 93.

When you put it that way..it could happen.

Wow, one sweep only the rest of the year? At least they won on my B-day.

Actually, while not really caring about your game by game picks, you’re right when you say that it willn’t take all that much to win the division. What that says for the post season? I don’t want to think about it… But a division title is practically in the bag. It’s the Twins to lose- especially with Contraras(?) going down.

Idealy(?) I’d love for the W.Sox to win the wild card, The Twins win the division, and TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY freeze out Boston and New York (Yankees) out of the playoffs. God, that WOULD BE SWEET! I wonder how many years it’s been since neither one of them have been playing in October? Of course the current playoff system hasn’t been in place forever, but still.

If the Twins don’t win, I want a WS match up of the Cubs and Rays… Or the Marlins and Rays. Wanting the (not so Devil) Rays to win at least in the latter scenerio. Couldn’t decide about the Cubbies and Rays. One thing’s for sure- people will dislike/hate/root against the team that beats either one of them in the playoffs.

Nice to see the Twins take care of business and beat Kansas Shitty… Nice Homer for Young… At least the Cuddyer issue willn’t have to be dealt with… Another solid, yet shaky, outing for Liriano. Didn’t see much of the game, so I’m only going on the pitchers line score.
