Twins-Royals pregame

Posted on September 10th, 2008 – 3:57 PM
By La Velle

The Twins tonight will try to win consecutive games for the first time since Aug. 21-22.

Kyle Davies is 2-3 against the Twins. Kevin Slowey is 2-0 against the Royals

Update: Michael Cuddyer was given the go-ahead to run as much as he can tolerate after meeting with Twins team physician Dr. John Steubs today. So Cuddyer ran the bases at 60 percent effort and hit several bombs into the seats during early batting practice.

“It’s sore,” Cuddyer said. “It’s going to be sore. As long as it doesn’t hurt.”

Dustin Morse of the Twins baseball communications department has swung into MVP battle mode.  His stat of the day is that Justin Morneau is one of four players in the league this year to have at least a  .300 average, 20 homers, 100 RBI and 40 doubles. The others are Aubrey Huff, Raul Ibanez and Lance Berkman.

I’m getting pretty comfortable with this line up. I think it is the one we’ll see more often than not the rest of the way out.

bufftwins says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:03 pm

Well, it worked last night. I have a lot of confidence when Slowey takes the mound.

AaronK says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:09 pm

buff,

I have a lot of confidence the next 3 starts…Slowey, Liriano, and Baker all give this team a chance to win consistently.

Perkins and Blackburn are a step back for me. Still quality arms, but they just seem to be more hittable and when balls are sneaking through the infield or they are just a little off they can be hit hard.

Mike Lamb says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:10 pm

I am off to bigger and better places. Haaaah!

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:14 pm

Mike,

you mean you are off to the land of bigger people

Jeff says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

I am more nervous when Baker pitches than any of the others other than Perkins probably. He pitches great but just seems to give up a big inning that can really kill a game. He always looks nervous out there. He did pitch great against the Tigers last time though.

AJ Pesh says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

Consistency is the key. It’s good to see Gardy settling on 1 line-up and going with it.

Me says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Even though its not our best possible lineup…

Whiteness says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:19 pm

Nice one, Shawn.

And this is a lot of optimistic talk re: lineup.

Where are the complaints?

Whiteness says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Ah. there we are.

Sweetone says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:21 pm

Tomorrow’s lineup will be:

Span
Casilla
Mauer
Morneau
Kubel
Young
Redmond
Buscher
Punto

or

Span
Casilla
Redmond
Morneau
Kubel
Young
Buscher
Punto
Gomez

Mike Lamb says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:21 pm

I want a piece of that Punto. Don’t you know who I am. I’m Mike Lamb!

Butch Winegar says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

Night ruined…53 straight games

Mike Lamb says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Tony Batista and I want a piece of that Punto.

Section 221 says:

punto gonna be a twin next year?

Gardenporker says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Yes LNP 4 Life

Butch Winegar says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Do you think Harris calls CCO’ on Twins Ticket Tuesdays to win tix?

Johan Santana says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Wouldn’t this playoff run be just a tad bit more exciting if the Twins hadn’t traded my services this year for a speedster and a handful of average minor league prospects?

gobbledygookguy says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

let’s hope they win tonight so i don’t have to jump off the bandwagon again it hurts my knees. it would be nice to be on the bandwagon for a few days anyway. when was the last time we won two in a row? 3 weeks maybe?

Sweetone says:

September 10th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

ggg,

Lavelle says it was Aug. 21-22 which was the 1st 2 games of the road trip.

SoCal Twins Fan says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Randy Ruiz? Wow did he disappear…

Louie says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

AH Slowey.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Twins Pups are a bunch of MadDog JunkYard bite ‘em animals and will win again. Back yard MUTTS who fight and scrap every game. GO MUTTS, WIN TWINS. Time to overtake the WhiteSux and win the Central. Most of us love you MUTTS!!!! MUTTS WILL WIN IT ALL!!!!!

Bob says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:35 pm

Is Ruiz still on the team? BTW now is not the time to let Maurer sit and relax. He needs to want to play every day, even if just as a DH with Red catching.

Macleod says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

Just read some Vikings blogs. I can’t believe there is more hatred there than Punto has received all season. I’m guessing all the haters have moved on from baseball to football.

Chuck Knoblauch says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:47 pm

You guys are getting soft….

little Miss Sarcasm says:

September 10th, 2008 at 5:54 pm

I am sorry you think we are getting soft…..

Chuck Knoblauch says:

September 10th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

I remember the good ole days of getting everything from nickels to two dollar beers tossed at me. I wouldn’t even need a TK escort to hang out in Minny anymore

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 6:02 pm

Chuck is really one to talk about getting soft….once he got his big contract, he failed…..

stinky says:

September 10th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

first place here we come!

bufftwins says:

September 10th, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Brewers had 3 straight 30,000 crowds this week against the lowly Reds. Twins had 17,015 last night and people here said that wasn’t a poor crowd. What happens in 2010 when the Royals come to town on a cold September Tuesday evening?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Why don’t you mention the 42,000 on saturday?

Anyway, if the twins want to make it to the playoffs, they are going to have to win two games in a row soon.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Plus, it is the royals and nobody cares about the royals

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:07 pm

Don’t really know why, but I’m expecting a tough game tonight.

Please, Slowey, pitch the 1st like you were pitching the 5th. Balls in the dirt? FB up in velocity?

Please, yes! Shut ‘em down before they (including DeJesus) can get started.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

Why hasn’t this game started yet?

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

Oh yeah, high and tight too. Thank you.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

No curves from Slowey yet. What gives?

eaa says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

17,000 is a very typical Twins crowd for a post Labor Day week night game against a crap team. The Brewers are getting 30,000 becuase they haven’t been in a race like this since Paul Molitor was a young man.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

It’s gametime for the MadDog MUTTS, the heck with all of the political jargon. Slow will go, even with the lead off hit!!!!!!!

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

Did he throw a curve on the first pitch to Callaspo?

I haven’t seen any curves yet.

And he ain’t no Nolan Ryan.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

double play coming, give up a run, that is AOK. the MUTTS will prevail.

Nora says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

Great start by Slowey. *sigh* 2 singles

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

hey romer, good to see ya you young pup you!!!!

Nora says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Jays got 3 hits in the 1st and did not score, that takes talent. LOL

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

And better to see you than the Slowster so far, DrDon.

BTW, you a doctor? I need some leg work.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

Nora. take a deep breath and relax, there is the DP.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Well…….. Guillen doesn’t like to run anyway.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

romer, I am a leg man, but prefer b@@bs, LOL.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Good to see the old crew here….romer, Nora, myself, and any other PUPS supporters….fun to chat during the game. Span will K and Casilla will start us with a double, what say, crew?

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

I’m thinking you missed the “large American breasts” [you remember Steve Martin] while in the Nam, huh.

(Don’t let me get you into trouble, Dr.)

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Well lookee here, it’s up to MVP already to tie the game.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

no problem, romer, at my age I don’t let myself get into trouble, let alone anyone else get me there. OK, we are down 1-0 after 1, and yes I missed SM’s largies….

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

OK that experiment din’t work. Been listening to Gordo and Dick at the same time. Now I’ll try one of ‘em. If that don’t work, then I’ll try the other.

No kiddin’, the only thing I’m superstitious about is watching the Twins. So, so many times has it bitten me in the a*s.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Don’t go away, Nora, you add too much to these disgusting discussions….

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:29 pm

Wells had to stretch that single into a double…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:29 pm

hey romer… were you ever a Twins fan back in the 60’s?

Buckwheat says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:29 pm

Sox 2-0 already

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

2-0 Sox

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

I was a college undergrad in the 60’s, learned to study all night for a urine test, rooted for the Twins, and when the time came for the urine test, I was so tired I couldn’t take the test. DUH!!

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Don’t walk the 8th batter

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

“…SM’s largies…”

There are many college sports.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

Hey Heatonator, take it from an old timer, never, never, never study all night for the urine test, but root, root, root all night for the Twins. You will “pass” the urine test if and when the time is right, and the Twins PUPS will win if the time is right. Agree Romer and Nora???

Heatonator says:

OK - you’re in a pennant race. Show some class and get rid of the blue softball jerseys. Wear the classy whites, find a jersey for the coaches and send the ugly blues back to the minors, or any little league team in need.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:41 pm

romer….I spent a week in Mankato one night. LOL

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Got Bob Allison’s autograph in an elevator at the Radisson once. Just him, my dad, and me.

The man was dressed impeccably in a suit and tie.

Seriously, people don’t know what respect people used to have for institutions and what self-respect people had for their humble successes…..until Viet Nam infected a whole generation.

DrDon says:

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Hey, welcome to Krissy and gatty. we are having fun watching the Twins MadDog Pups, and shooting the breeze during the game. and romer, I don’t rule, I just drool. GO TWINS

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Out for a jog to the market!

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

How dare anyone have fun watching a twins game!

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Mettler’s??? Oh yeah, the strip joint.

There’s baseball, women, and music. I like them all.

We need a live band in between innings at the Dome.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

So blog people, who do we have here rooting for the PUPS. please check in….DrDon here…

Krissy says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Actually Im listening, not watching, but that’s ok…

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

To be fair to Span, he got a very similar pitch called a ball in his first AB… I think he was just more surprised to see it now called strike three, although I thought it was a strike in both cases.

Nice to see Gomez take a ball to center and drive in a run… we should be able to tack on a few more off Kyle Davies with the middle of the order coming up here. Hold ‘em Slowey! :)

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

romer….up on the hill…by the campus???

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

I am excited about the new ballpark and the stone zone

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Slowey still without the power curve, I believe. They just might be sitting on a FB here and there.

Could see a lot of the Boof tonight.

Should I switch from Dick to Gordo?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Cuddy almost got hit by another line drive

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Steve is on board too, awesome, and Krissy, glad you are with us, even if not watching. I predict a Twins win tonight and a WhiteSux loss. all in favor, say “AYE”. Casilla is awesome.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

The guy looked safe at first, but it was a nice play nonetheless…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

Hurdy Gurdy Saloon was downtown kinda across from that pool hall place (South Street Saloon?).

Played there. Only played Mettler’s once.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

Every time I think the twins are absolutely going to win a game, they usually tell me that I am wrong.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

DrDon,

ever spend time in Marshall? I might move there and i have never been in that part of the state.

I don’t have the 60s memories, but i did live in the west bank dorm in 91. :)

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

The “Stone Zone” well, in California that would have a definite connotation.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

romer, Mauer already knows what Slowey has working and not working, and will help the Slow man succeed.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Let’s score some runs!

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

Hey Shawn…yes, I have worked out of Marshall also in the crop adjusting job. Nice quiet town with lots of downtown action due to the college there. Atta boy Casilla…Mauer a 2-run jack coming up.

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Mauer walk, Morneau and Kubel back-to-back home runs… too much to ask for? :)

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Bottom part of the zone really shrunk with mauer at the dish

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

First five Twins in the order with a combined BA about .300.

Then comes Young and Buscher with a combined in the .290’s.

Then Punto at .284.

Gotta score some runs off this average Davies.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

I really don’t understand why they don’t run casilla in front of mauer very often. Mauer is not a pull hitter by any measure.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Thank you GARDY!!!

If the very good Twins hitters are slow off the mark tonight, get ‘em going with the H&R!

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Same effect… I’m gonna count it as a win for me. One for three! Time for Morneau to do his part.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

well, I missed the 2-run jack, but a base hit nonetheless…MVP Justin will take care of it all now….

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Well, he got a pitch to do it on… just missed it.

Kubel can hit the 3-run shot I suppose. Let me get SOMETHING right, Jason!

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Hit that ball a little too hard…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

now is the time for H & R with Kubel….shucks, GR double saved a run for the Royals. atta boy Kubes…now watch Delmon blast another 3-runner.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Great call by gatty at 8:04. Kudos, man.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Joey woulda scored

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Buscher with a runner on third. Should I pencil in the single right now?

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Delmon, GoGo, and Span, an outfield that is 2nd to none in the entire major leagues. Speed and Power, and an occassional screw up.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Yucky at bat to end the inning.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

college action huh? the fiance will like that. :)

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Morne is flossing his skills out there…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Hey crew, what you say we try talk Pohlad, et.al., into signing all 5 Pup Pitchers, Young, Span, Gomez, to long term contracts to go along with MVP Justin, Batting Champ Joe, best 2nd base in Casilla since the days of Rod Carew when he first came up, this team could dominate for a decade if the Front Office is smart. What Say?

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Jays can’t get anything goin on Buehrle

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Nice dig by Justin.

Doctor Morneau-

It is from Batgirl, I believe.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

The Slow tonight is Go. And Morneau is one special first baseman. That was a rocket to him, and he played it like it was a cupcake.

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Shawn in Binghamton,
I went to Marshall for a year (Southwest Minnesota State college back then). You need to have short hair and a warm coat for the winters. It blows like crazy there. It’ll be a little on the small and quiet side for someone used to the east. You might like that.

Are you going to work for Schwann’s? Not much else out there of any size employer as I recall.

Overall pretty good little city I would say. Must be around 10-12,000 people plus another half that many college students I would estimate.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

I am grilling some salmon tonight, so I am going to have my special meal, but I will be listening whilest I grill. By the way, hobo potatoes/carrots/onions on the side. See ya all soon, keep up the cheers…GO TWINS

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

I hope the twins offense hasn’t shutdown for the night…

Steve from Fridley says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

That goes down as the ugliest bunt attempt I think I have ever seen, Carlos… haha.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Where is everyone else tonight?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Slowey has absolutely no feel for the change up. Gload is hitting over .400 against Slowey in his career

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Teahan’s leadoff double in the second didn’t score. Encore?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Nice K for slowey

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Carlos,

can’t be any colder than Fosston was growing up.

Yeah, it would be Schwans…. would like to move home and it might be a heck of a job, but kind of small town…. oh well, i could go to Twins games and get vikes season tix.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Anyone remember when Slowey gave up a triple to lead off the game and he was able to pitch around that?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

to lead off a game that is

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Nice job Slowey.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Thank you!

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

Hurley Buehrle is n groove right now - not looking good.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Why do the Twins have a less-than half-filled turnout??????

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Shawn,
I knew someone who worked at Schwan’s a few years back. She thought it was a great company. She “commuted” from the Twin Cities. That was only tolerable for a few years! She had too many connections in the cities to move there, but she had nothing but good things to say about it.

Sometimes I wish I lived in a smaller town. These 30-40 minute commutes to go 10 miles get kind of old.

But, it is nice to say to the honey, “hey let’s go to the game this afternoon” and head on over. Good luck on that decision and move.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

The fans need to be the 10th man - they need to raise hell and make noise, bring horns, drums - bring it on and turn this team on!

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

People are just sitting there as if they are watching an opera!

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Coming into the game Morne was 2-10 against Davies if I remember correctly

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

7 scoreless hits for the Jays so far…

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

The twins offense suddenly looks ugly…

TC fan in LA says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

come on twins, you need more runs.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

2nd and 2rd and no outs for the sox

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Slowey only has 67 pitches, we’re good.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:42 pm

3rd*

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Hi all.

I am back, watching the game again, eating my grilled salmon and hobo potatoes, and sipping on a GOOD COLD BEER!!!! Go Go 3 straight fly outs, easy ones. Gotta love it…Go Slow, Go PUPS.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

I don’t think the Jays are going to win today

Nora says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

4-0 is Halladay injured? Also Jays have 7 hits and no runs?

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Sux ahead 4-0 over the Jays. We need the win, gang

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Doesn’t swing at the pitch in the zone and yet swings at the pitch that is 3 feet out.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Nora, it doesn’t matter how well Halladay pitches for the Jays, if they score no runs, no win tonight.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Second time this year I have seen someone slide feet first into first…

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Strike that, three times I have seen that

AaronK says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

gatty, I recall the first was really awkward and really ugly and it was executed by Ruiz.

This team has more players sliding into first then any I can every remember. Many have only done it once or twice, but it seems almost the entire team has tried it.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

I think Bert is the only person in the world to call that a good piece of hitting…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Wow, some luck is better than no luck. Way to place the Texas Leaguer, Nicky!!

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Shawn, my computer completely fritzed. I’ve been writing this for 30 minues:

Marshall ain’t so quiet downtown anymore. The issue is underage drinking at the downtown bars and on the street DT! Only to say yeah, it’s a college town.

It has the only classic sports bar/pub I know of in SW MN, the Wooden Nickel. (And I’ve been to all the towns.) Great ol’ time restaurant food there, best variety of beer, etc. at an “ordinary” bar anywhere in SW MN….lots of TV’s, a patio bar.

Nice business growth at the outskirts too. No Target or Kohl’s but the Shopko has more class than the Walmart and KMart in town. And they broke ground on the new Menard’s last week. 3 great super markets, an ice cream shop (homemade, classy-new). Some steak houses. A warehouse liquor 7 miles north of town.

Schwann’s also built the fine dining place DT, the Bistro, with ultra-class. That oughta keep the fiance occupied.

And there’s big Lake Shetek about 30 miles away (a 35-minute commute, get it?). Don’t know the real estate market, but for lake property contact Murrayland Reality and ask for Luann, 507-763-3599.

Finally, you can scoot to Sioux Falls on weekends at 60 mph until you hit the freeway. Then it’s 75. Of course SF has everything pretty much entertainment wise. And don’t forget there’s concerts and fine arts stuff at the campus of the college, which is a very nice place built in ‘66. Brand new high school.

Best football team this year is Tracy, 25 miles away where I live. They’ll probably take state. My “wife” works in Marshall.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Sliding feet first I saw Ruiz, A’s Player, and Buscher.

Sliding head first that I can remember:
Gomez - 3 or 4 times early in the year
Casilla - 1 or 2 times
Mauer - 1 time
Morneau - zero
Kubel - zero
Buscher - zero
Punto - 5 or 6
Span - zero or once
Tolbert - one too many

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

o-2 to Gomez….how about a 2-run jack?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

There’s the curve

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

romer…I live about 20 miles outside of downtown Fargo, and trust me, I agree with you that Sioux Falls is fantastic. In the Twin Cities, rush hour lasts 2 hours, in the Fargo-Moorhead area, rush hour is what I call rush 20 minutes….Slowey will win this game, GO TWINS.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Come up and visit me in GF…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

The reason my computer fritzed is because Schwan’s makes all the $$$.

:)>

Sub-corporate types can’t get benefits or a decent wage. College educations really do pay off, don’t they!

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Slowey has to trust Mauer on calling the pitches…..even tho the pitcher has the final say, the pitcher has to trust the catcher.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Gload is really good against slowey, not the best plan to walk a batter to get to him…

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

19th walk of the year for Slowey

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

Slowey is really starting to get more of the plate with his pitches…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

Hey Gatty….where in GF or better to meet ya at O’Kelly’s in Fargo some time, and watch the Twins WIN…..

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

gatty, I do DJ/Karaoke for the meager living. Best there is in SW MN if you consider the singing worth of the KJ/Host and don’t mind R&R/Oldies. Been doing patio parties at the Nickel this summer as Billy Elvis.

Anything going on in GF?

BTW, I was married to a GF graduate once.

She wasn’t a Twins fan.

:(>

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Out of curiosity, how old is everyone?

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Another 7 from heaven from one of our young starters.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

7 really good innings, now if Slowey will follow Mauer’s leadership, he will get a complete game win.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

Whenever I go out to see a ballgame, its always Buffalo Wild Wings. In a word: Delicious!

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Hey Heatonator…. this old fart is 63. Old enough to know better, but young enough to do it again. LOL

TC fan in LA says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

Buerhle just got pulled for dotel. Jays may have a chance to get some runs now.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

I’m 59 and look like I’m 45 (probably, I think).

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

GF is still a little restless after the Vikings lost on monday, but other than that not a lot is going on.

GF is a pretty big sports town with the hockey and all…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Now let’s watch if GoGo steals after another Texas Leaguer….We need 3 runs this inning….

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Sad to report, but I am 1/3 the age of DrDon…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

romer. you are a hoot, I am 63, look 45 (probably,I think) and act 25. LOL

TC fan in LA says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

rios just hit dotel’s third pitch out of the park. 5-2 sox

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

I have been to O’Kelly’s.

I miss Buffalo Wild Wings…. none close to here.

Thanks for all of the Marshall input. I’m a NW MN guy and have never really been in that part of the state… save for touring Shell’s brewery in New Ulm while working for MGM liquor.

It would be nice to be back in the home state, either way.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Dotel has really turned into a home run pitcher as of late…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Don’t be sad, gatty, I was a pup once like you, one is only old when he/she is dead. I still can be 25 when the time is right, like rooting for the Twins.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

good job speed guys

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Wow, huge play for the twins and an even better bunt by casilla

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Yes, great bunt, great error, great 2 runs, did I call for 3?

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

What about the night life though, gatty? Just drinkin’ and talkin’? Any entertainment?

There’s certainly nothing in Tracy to brag about…..

TC fan in LA says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

nice

Skips Scramble says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Am I the only one that really wants to get a look at Mijares? Hopefully he will get in tonight or tomorrow.

Krissy says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Casilla got a TRIPLE on a bunt????? Holy crap!!

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

I think Fosston played Tracy in Volleyball when i was in HS…. probably all i know about Tracy. :)

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

The bars can get a little entertaining but that goes without saying, but when it comes to entertainment, GF is not exactly a hot bed…

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

Mauer SF for the 3rd run I called earlier in this inning. Check back if you don’t believe me.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Free RBI time for Morne

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Jays with just 2 runs in the 8th. DP to end the inning. 5-2 whities. Looks like we stay one back for today.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Morneau seems intent on expanding the strike zone today

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

up to Justin to get that 3rd run in.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:27 pm

Guess it is up to Kubes….2 runs in, 1 to go….for my 3 run call I made for this inning. GO TWINS!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Nice pitching duel in NY tonight…

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

Kubes getting his second RBI back from the GRD

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

6-2 sox

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Yeah, I did karaoke once in Granite about 5 years ago. It was like playing in a closet. That super-old dive (pool tables) on 212 west of 23.

Tracy had a girls volleyball dynasty kind of for a couple years this century.

In ‘64, had one of the best football teams in history!!!! Beat Marshall 52-0 that year.

Fosston is pretty isolated, no? Even bleaker than SW MN I’m guessing.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

the 5 Horsemen?

not sure i like that yet

TC fan in LA says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

given the length of this half inning, slowey has sat too long and is probably done despite only having thrown 94 pitches.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Red Sox have a Chris Carter

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

I called for needing 3, Twins got 3, now we need Boof to shut ‘em down in the 8th.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Fosston is desolate….

right where the wooded area ends in W MN…. nothing like a strong wind to blow right through you in the winter.

i didn’t leave town until almost 3 months after graduation.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Gotta move to MN, Shawn. They’ll be a Twins dynasty for your requisite 5-year stint at Schwann’s!

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

Fosston did have a former resident as a murderer this year though…. big news.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

Been to Tracy, been to Fosston, most excitement I had in both was cable TV in my motel room drinking beer alone, but as long as Twins win, who cares? Keep it up Twins, and game tomorrow afternoon is on FSN, so will watch it while I have an early Miller Lite. Gotta Love being retired…:-)

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

hopefully i get a good look at the job.
fiance not too keen on the small town bit, but she wants to leave this area.

gatty790 says:

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

DrDon,

1 of the 2 bars is next to the hotel… should have stopped in.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

DrDon, what brand beer ya having with your salmon? (God, I’m hungry)

BTW, anyone ever had a Baker’s cyst? Yours truly has one. A nuisance…..

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

houston is winning again

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Hey Shawn, it’s called Fosston, where the “Pines meet the Prairie”, and the great truck stop restaurant burned down, gone forever.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

…..that is why Boof gets more rope.

TC fan in LA says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

ozzie must be nervous. he brought in jenks for the top of the ninth despite a 4 run lead.

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

I managed to get a message into Gardy. He says look for Mirajes when we lead by 13 runs in the 9th inning. Otherwise, he is balancing the benches with Reyes and Boof. That’s a delicate business.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

there is still a place called “Pine to Prarie” though

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

No Nathan please. Mijares.

No Punto tomorrow. (Or Mauer)

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

romer….Miller Lite, salmon, hobo potatoes, and Twins winning. Gotta love it!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

I would like to see mijares, but I think he already got his work in…

TC fan in LA says:

nice inning for bonser. if only he pitched liked that consistently.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

From the Update:

““It’s sore,” Cuddyer said. “It’s going to be sore. As long as it doesn’t hurt.” ”

Sounds like Cuddy could be back about the same time as Konerko with the same effectiveness as a slow runner/big bat, etc.

DrDon, OMG my 1st girlfriend’s parents owned the motel. We used to “study” together in #1. Learned a lot. Ah, to be young again like Shawn.

And Shawn, Marshall ain’t a small town, it’s a regional town.

gatty790 says:

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Shawn,
Not sure you saw my invite a week or so ago. If that doesn’t work out for you in Marshall and you want to get something in the Cities, let me know. We should be able to find something you like. Let me know if you want an email address.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Six-FIVE bitchsox! Send your karma, folks.

Nora says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:52 pm

Sox did a pretty good impression of the Twins’ bullpen. Luckily for them their starter did not give up any runs.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:52 pm

Game over in ChiTown. Drat….

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Carlos,

no, i missed it:

give me your addy

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Dang. Just 6 runs short of seeing Mirajes.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Breslow has been a pleasant surprise

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

romer. don’t we all wish we were Shawn’s age, we would root for more that the Twins, but at my age I feel better when the Twins win than if I were back in room #1 again. LOL Go Jays, WIN TWINS

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

Jays almost tied it up…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:56 pm

DrDon, Miller Lite? That’s Paul Bunyan pea, ain’t it?

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:57 pm

My daughter lives in Media, Shawn. Kimberly Clark rookie.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:58 pm

thats right guys…. nothing beats being….um 35

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 9:59 pm

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

got it, Thanks Carlos.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

BTW, Shawn. The winters have temporized on the prairie due to global warming. Hardly any below zero days, and people are pissed because of the lack of snow.

My brother got rejected by Schwann’s once. Not a good enough college record. He’s a cheese with General Mills in computers in Golden Valley now.

DrDon says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

romer. If it’s good enough for big Paul, it’s good enough for me and the Big Blue Babe.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

Off to ESPN for Tampa/Sox

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

Well, boys getting it right last two days. Beat up the royals again tomorrow and hope the Jays bounce right back.

Heatonator says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Did Dick use the word ‘doinked’ for Punto’s RBI?

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:02 pm

I remember in about 98 or so Tommy Bernard was complaining about the mild winters…. they were the only things keeping people out.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:03 pm

“i buy Kimberly Clark products.”

Ha! She’s an engineer. They’ve been working on a new toilet paper for a couple years.

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:04 pm

General Mills is one of “the places to work”. I’ve got a future nephew in law there. That would be one of the places I would send your resume. But, romer might even be closer to the hiring managers with a big cheese brother. My guy is young and fairly new there.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:04 pm

romer,

Shawn, Tommy doesn’t know anything “mild”.

La Velle,

I’ve been speculating on this all year and I know I’ve seen others wondering about it on discussion boards on this site. Why would Gardy put Breslow in for the 9th? Bonser’s just struck out 2 of 3, presumably is more than capable of pitching 2 innings, and the game’s not close. Why use another pitcher for the 9th? What if Breslow is actually needed tomorrow? Or tomorrow and Friday?

From an outsider’s perspective and having only played through high school, it would seem like having Bonser pitch would be better overall for the bullpen because: Bonser probably won’t pitch two days in a row anyway, and would probably be plenty ready to go on Friday whether he’d pitched one or two innings; warming up a new pitcher requires your bullpen (in total) to throw more pitches; and Breslow is generally considered to be higher in the pecking order than Bonser in that he’s a lefty who’s seemingly more trusted late in games.

Given all that, why put him in at the end of the game for a meaningless inning?

Krugz12: the best way to keep people sharp is to play them in game situations. Both Boof and Breslow are still ready and able for tomorrow. Good win Twins, You MadDog MUTTS are going to win it. Win MUTTS, Win Twins!!

D. Ortiz flexing his twins muscle and getting down the sac bunt…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Well not a “cheese” cuz he’s not in management. Just a veteran (20 years?) in the computer dept, whatever.

How come my bros and sisters are pretty much corporate types and I’m the starving-artist/party type? (though I was a legal secretary for Hennepin County Attorney once).

I should have gotten the sweep-up-at-closing job at Mettler’s and shook out all the wild oats.

Now…….ain’t that cute? R Sox BP is tapping spoons against the wall for a rally chant.

I wanna win the WS.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

Span only 1-5 OBP tonight, but scores once. M&M kind of AWOL a little. Buscher hitless.

But everyone else contributes. Not a closely contested contest, thanks to Slowey and DrDon, and gatty at 8:05. So, lots of time to BS with posters. Sorry if I(we) bored any of ya.

(BTW, gatty, maybe you don’t want to say somebody had a “yucky” AB. Just sayin’……)

:)>

bufftwins says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:21 pm

Nice to score 7 runs when MVP goes
0-4. Slowey is great to watch and another impressive performance even it was against the Royals. Liriano tomorrow. Hope Mauer is the DH, but they keep Kubel’s bat in the lineup as well. Can’t wait. Halladay has never won at Comiskey Park. Hopefully the Blue Jays can win one more game there this season.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:24 pm

P.S. I’m bettin’ DrDon had more than one Miller Lite tonight. Sleep tight, retiree.

The Daily Show in 5 minutes. The re-runs are funny this week. I love women in presidential races.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:26 pm

In my defense, the only reason why I called it a yucky at bat was because I said yuck at the conclusion…

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:27 pm

No one seems to want to score in Boston…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:27 pm

Good to see Bosox and the Rays using up their energy on each other. And Madden making the wrong decision re a bunt.

Should have been a no-brainer with no outs. Navarro isn’t reliable enough for a sac fly?

MudCat says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Romer, I thought you were watching the Daly Show reruns?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Show just ended…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:35 pm

Oops, has to be Colbert I guess.

Daily again at midnight?

And not a single sip of Bunyan juice for me……

Sam says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Hey, I was at the game, so if this was already discussed, forgive me, but can someone explain to me why the box score shows two RBI for Casilla? He was awarded a bunt base hit in the 7th, but that would merely have loaded the bases. The two runs scored on the 2-base throwing error by Nunez, so by rule, shouldn’t those runs have no BI attached to them?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:39 pm

According to mlb.com, Casilla wasn’t credited with those RBI so they must have changed it…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:39 pm

Sam, my boxscore(Yahoo) shows no RBI’s for Lexi.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:41 pm

Colbert is boring…….someone gatty’s age on it.

Spike channel has strippers. But if you can’t touch them……..

Back to ESPN

gatty790 says:

I’m glued to the Sox game. Is it too much to ask for both teams to lose?

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

sam,
I don’t know why they would show 2 RBI for Alexi. He didn’t have any. gameday has it correct.

Did you happen to see if Mirajes is in the bullpen and if he ever moved? I am waiting and waiting for him to get into one of these blowout games.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:44 pm

Mirajes pitched a bullpen session in the bottom of the seventh

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:44 pm

Three run jack, wow

Sam says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Oh, they fixed it. Thanks…

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:46 pm

thanks gatty. So, he must just be here in case we need an emergency starter, I guess. You would think he could have had his inning of work on the real mound…

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:47 pm

I am surprised that the twins haven’t used him yet, although he couldn’t go to Toronto…

Carlos G says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:48 pm

I much prefer the Rays over the Red sox, but not really liking the idea of them getting out of their slump the week before we go there.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:49 pm

I always enjoy when the red sox and the yankees lose. Except against the WSox…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:49 pm

You’d think Boof would be the emergency starter.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:52 pm

Boston without the Manny/Pappi thing is like a romer without The Daily Show.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:54 pm

An empty shell of their/your former self?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:57 pm

Just saw a dude with a UofM shirt loudly cheering with the boston crowd in favor of D. Ortiz…

bufftwins says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:58 pm

Torii Hunter. 5 division championships in 7 years. Not a bad run. He might win a World Series ring this year. As long as it’s not AJ.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:58 pm

T. Percy isn’t hurt, he just isn’t pitching well as of late…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 10:59 pm

Wow, Jason Bay is 0-6.

Sox have used 2 pinch runners already tonight.

Percival and Madden going AT it!!

Mets and Rays with no decent closers now.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:00 pm

There has been some talk of moving Balfour into the roll

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:02 pm

Slammy-whammy for Youk?

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

Man the camera angle at fenway sucks.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

Well, mouthpiece just jinxed Youk.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:06 pm

Tolja….

Is Balfour hitting 97 still, gatty?

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Wow, nice dropball by Hammel.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Yeah, he is still a flamethrower…

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Other mouthpiece missed the first curve ball.

romer says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

gatty from granite, nice to “meet” ya. Hope ya catch the game live tomorrow.

gatty790 says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

For the record, Balfour hit 98 3 times in the game today…

sane says:

September 10th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

romer,
“Wow, nice dropball by Hammel.’

If dropball is referring to a pitch, you just revealed your age.
And my recognition of that terminology just revealed mine.
