White Sox rainout puts EVERYONE in a box
Posted on September 13th, 2008 – 7:12 PMBy La Velle
If you thought the end of the 2006 season was crazy, get ready for possibly an ever crazier finish to the 2008 season.
The White Sox had their doubleheader with the Tigers rained out today. They’ll play two on Sunday - with a makeup game with the Tigers left.
When will that game be played?
The White Sox have an off-day on Sept. 22 - the Tigers don’t.
Know what that means? If the White Sox are within 1/2 game of the Twins after Sept. 28, they will make up the game with the Tigers on Mon., Sept. 29. If there’s a tie after that, a one-game Twins-Sox playoff would go down on the 30th - with the ALDS possibly starting on Wed., Oct. 1.
And the Twins lost the coin flip for home field if they are tied with the Sox.
Oh joy!
So pull for the Twins to blow past the Sox and pull away in the AL Central.

That’s what I vote for.
the rest of Ike could be in the OH area early next week
we could have the same problems
When does game 2 with the Orioles start?
About 20 more minutes…
About 20 minutes or so.
do players really have a say in when a makeup game is played? Is the union that strong?

Is Cuddy a DH only the rest of the year or will his foot allow him to play RF before the season ends?
How much do these double-headers really take out of a player?
Is tomorrow’s game still going to be in the afternoon?
There’s only a couple weeks left in the season. The union has no argument.
I expect Cuddy to pinch hit for a while, then DH. No chance of putting his big arm in right field….

I had read that both phillies and brewers are off monday, but the brewers voted not to play so they will have to address it later. That just seems wrong at this time of year.
I agree, bombat. I’d like to know the thought process…
La Velle, Tolbert seems a better hitter than Punto or Harris. How good of a SS is he in comparison? Will he be our SS next year…… or Casilla at SS with Tolbert at 2nd a possibility?
I expect Cuddy to pinch hit for a while, then DH. No chance of putting his big arm in right field….
Delmon looks about as mobile right now as Bernie Kosar in his prime and he’s still starting in left. Doesn’t seem like Cuddy’s wheels could be much worse?
How about Pridie in left & give Delmon’s ankle the rest of the night off?
Oh brother, another Perkins nightmare.
The Twins will be up by 3 games and close the season at the appointed time.

coco,
IMO, it will be Casilla at SS and a cast of dozens (Tolbert, Punto, et al) at 2B.
home filed should be determined by head to head records against each other, a coin toss is stupid
Love for them to pull away, but then remember we have a suckass bullpen and resolve not to hold my breath.
Coin toss my ass. The Twins are going to blow off the Sox with a sweep.
Let Perkins pound the corners EVEN WITH A BIG LEAD, (instead of pitching down the middle to avoid walks) and his problems may disappear.
Gardy and Andy overemphasize the HORROR of walking a batter or two with a (big?) lead.
Just let the kid continue to pitch the same as he was pitching when we got the damn lead!
I guess they need to set a schedule for travel, but playing 162 games and using a coin flip as the tie-breaker is a joke. It should be head to head record first.
if we beat baltimore today and the sox get swept in there DH how many games will we lead by in the central?
eazy,
1 1/2 games
thanks sane
Will be Twins 1/2 back if the goofs from the south side find a way to seal up the loss after having a 7-0 lead going into the 7th.
Nevermind….. baseball. 4 run shot ties it in the 8th and the sox hit one of their own in the bottom of the inning. unbelievable. This one is going to bother me if the season comes down to the last game.
there will be plenty of rain outs at Target Field.

—Then don’t go to any games
Target Field. What a terrible name for a baseball park.
Cuddyer is a bum and will not help the team win the division. Gardenhire is making a fundamental mistake by putting him in the lineup.
Go Sox Ozzie is making sense here
We just have to win,” Guillen said. “We don’t have to hope for someone to beat Minnesota.”
Then, with a comical glint in his eye, Guillen launched a commentary in which best-selling posters or bumper stickers are made.
“Those little piranhas are out of teeth now,” said a sarcastic Guillen, moving forward in his chair and smiling. “I got a feeling they have no more teeth left. I know.
“They have been grinding and fighting all year long, so they should have little teeth now. It’s time for us to pull them out and win it.”
Cuddyer should not be in the lineup. He is not going to help the team down the stretch. Cuddyer is weak in the clutch. The teams good do better with Macri or Harris hitting at DH. Cuddyer will jinx the team and the team will not win the division.
Cuddyer is definately a jinx. The Twins were sure to faulter once they put him back on the roster. And that is certainly what has happened. Gardehire putting Cuddyer in the lineup is the most rediculous thing that could happen to the Twins.
The Twins are slipping in the standing due to Gardenhire’s ability to cost them games by not putting the best players on the field everyday, as was evidenced by him putting Cuddyer in the lineup as DH. Gardenhire will always find a way to cost the team games in the standings by his poor judgement. Punto playing regularlyl has cost them 2 to 3 games in the last ten days due to lousy fielding and base running mistakes. Punto and Cuddyer should have been traded at the end of last season. The Twins will lose out to the White Sox because of Cuddyer and Punto.
Watch and see.
