A short Sox update

You always have to check opponents rosters to be familliar with the left-handed relievers who could be used to try to slow down Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel.  The White Sox have four of them

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen brought in lefthanders Clayton Richard and Boone Logan in the middle innings on Tuesday - with bad results.

Mauer singled of a 1-2 pitch from Richard to open the fifth. Morneau smoked the next pitch for a RBI double. Even Brian Buscher came through with a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Logan faced three batters in the seventh. He got Morneau to ground out, but left an off speed pitch over  the middle of the plate to Kubel, who turned it into his second homer of the game. Then Delmon Young hit the next pitch out to left.

“Clayton looked good,” Guillen said. “Logan looked the same way he has all year long. It’s hard for us to put that guy there.”

I’m guessing Ozzie meant to say it was a tough situation for Logan to be in.

Guillen also has lefties Horacio Ramirez and Matt Thornton in the bullpen. Thornton, who has a 2.00 ERA this month,  is one of Guillen’s weapons to lock down late-inning leads. Guillen needs all his lefties to step up in this series - but they didn’t on Tuesday.

For more Sox news, here’s the Chicago Tribune’s notebook from Tuesday’s game.

It’s fun reading all the Sux fans post on the ChiTrib website. They are none too pleased with their team right now.

Lavelle,

I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you expect Gardy to do with the bullpen down the stretch. Is Guerrier out? When does he think about Crain? Is he going situational, or will he let Breslow or Mijares throw full innings, even if they face a righty?

I think tonight’s game is the one. I’ll go on record as saying if we win tonight, we’re in the playoffs.

Matt Thorton has a 5.40 ERA in the last week… as a matter of fact the mighty sox pen has an ERA of 5.98 for September and opposing batters are hitting .301 against them (that’s Juanie Rincon kind of numbers ;) )

I’ve read a fair number of stories about how Ozzie uses the press and his comments to motivate his players. Well, let me ask you this, if your boss said you were a piece of crap and couldn’t do your job well, would that motivate you? When Gardy says; “he’s been having a tough time lately”, this is considerably differnt that Ozzie saying; “he is not a big game pitcher”. World Series win or not, I’d fire that jerk running my team on the South Side of Chicago. And if I’m a free agent player with options I would not resign with the Sox.

But Macleod it would be differant for Gardy to say something like that because it’s out of character for him but with Ozzie his players are accustomed to his rants.

And Richard will be starting Saturday. Who else could it be?

I seriously think we need to win out from here on to have a chance. Even one loss to ChiSux and we are not going to make it I don’t think

romer,

Chicago is officially on a 4 man rotation… so:

M.Buehrle today
Floyd Thursday
Danks Friday
Vasquez Saturday
M.Buehrle Sunday
and if needed Floyd Monday

Since Hunter got in trouble for doing it to the Royals in ‘06, maybe we should offer to buy the Indians a case of champange if they sweep the White Sox this weekend, and- if need be- get something nice for the Tigers and their make-up game, too.

Perkins and Blackburn are the Twins weakest links in the rotation. Ii worry about pitching them against the Sox.
