The votes from this year’s Picks to Click election have been counted! The results have been double-checked by the accounting firm of Reusse, Christensen and Hartman!
Here are the top vote-getters among position players:
1. Delmon Young 87
2. Jason Kubel 64
3. Carlos Gomez 60
4. Michael Cuddyer 30
5. Alexi Casilla 20
6. Joe Crede 11
(other Twins finished in the single-digits)
My pick: Jason Kubel
I think you can make a case for any of the players mentioned above. Especially Young, who looks serious about taking his game to the next level. I went with Kubel because he was locked in for most of spring AND he seemed to be more confident than he was last season when he hit 20 homers. I think the contract extension he signed really meant a lot to him and he wants to prove to his bosses that it was a wise investment.
My second pick, by the way, was Casilla. He’s got a little pop (10 homers this year?) can bunt for hits and, based on what we saw in September and on Tuesday against Seattle, he might turn out to be a clutch hitter.
Here are the pitchers to click:
1. Kevin Slowey 149
2. Francisco Liriano 36
3. Nick Blackburn 30
4. Glen Perkins 27
5. Jesse Crain 19
(the rest were in single-digits)
My pick: Kevin Slowey
Slowey’s strong spring made him the runaway winner. Don’t fall off his bandwagon after of one start.
I think any of the starting pitchers could have been picked to click. I was surprised to see the number of votes for Jesse Crain - but I believe he will be fine as the eighth-inning man.
What surprised me was that Scott Baker got only eight votes.
What really surprised me was that R.A. Dickey got more votes (nine) than Big Spot Scott. Some of you must believe that Dickey will get plenty of work this year.
Thanks for taking part in this. It’s interesting to see what fans are thinking about this club.
