Live from Chicago

Posted on June 11th, 2009 – 7:45 PM
By La Velle

Just checked into the hotel. There were several Twins fans on the flight to O’Hare Airport - and I’m sure there will be thousands more to come! It’s going to be quite an atmosphere at Wrigley this weekend.

I just tried to reach scouting director Deron Johnson but he’s working - at the Perfect Game National Showcase that’s at the Dome this weekend.

I won’t be able to get his rundown of the final day of the draft for a couple more hours.

Meanwhile, check here for details about the showcase. If you’re bored this weekend and want to sharpen your scouting skills, I think anyone can watch games.

Thanks, La Velle. It would be interesting to see what Deron Johnson has to say about the draft.

Am I the only one that finds it a bit strange that they are hosting this showcase the weekend after the draft? (Unless we are talking about high school Juniors here…)

My wife and I recognized La Velle getting on the plane in Minneapolis and he was friendly and tolerated our “celebrity gawking.” ;-) My wife thought he was cuter in person than his photo (which sounds worse than she meant).

We are staying downtown in the Loop. Saw multiple Twins fans downtown and on the Blue & Red Line trains. Upper deck box seats behind home plate at Wrigley for Saturday. Let’s hope there are no blown leads like today. Go Twins!

LaVelle, thought you might like to know the Twins drafted Metro Player of the year, Abrahamson (from Tartan) in the 40th round. Doubtful he will sign, since he has a scholarship waiting for him at the U of M, but it’s an interesting selection.

Anything called the “Perfect Game” shouldn’t happen in the Dome.

Thrylos
I want to personally thank you for all your work that you do on all the updates of the draft picks. You always do such a great job with all your statistical analysis. I know the regular posters on here always appreciate it.
Just one question?? Please tell me that our 44th pick is not related to Tommy?? ;)

Thrylos98:

And just like that their working on the 2010 draft!
It may be a good chance for the Twins to sign a non-drafted player Like Bobby Kielty or possible get a second look at a lower drafty.

Cubs are about a .250 BA club.

But their ERA the last 30 days is an incredible 2.85.

Twins better take the RISP opportunities VERY seriously this weekend.

promises to be a weekend of bad decisions on the northside. what a town.

Jeff,

I suspect that your son does not know Minnesota winters :) Congrats!!!

you are welcome, about the draft stuff. I will try to post in depth profiles once they sign, because I suspect only about 20=25 or so will sign, like every season.

I suspect that Tyler Herr is not related to Tommy (at least genetically). That kid is a giant. 6′8″ and 18 years old and growing. He looks like a defensive end/power forward. He is one of the low picks that I hope they sign, but it would be tough

romer,

add about .50 points for the AL equivalent. ERAs in that league are not comparable. See Slowey have a 3 hit game today

Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day here in Chicago.

I’m a Chicago resident, but born and raised Twins fan. On my short subway ride to work there were about 20 high-school kids with chaperones that were obviously Minnesotans coming in from the airport. Any other morning, that kind of noise during the commute would have driven me insane. Somehow today i couldn’t help but smile the whole way…should be quite a day at Wrigley. GO TWINS!

Right now the forecast is for low to mid 70’s and clear to PC. The wind is forecast to be 5-10 mph, blowing in with a little left to right field.

Sounds perfect.

I’m anxious to see today’s lineup. Span’s absence sure leaves a big hole. I don’t envy the manager’s position when everyone’s role has to shift. I hope we see Gomez or Delmon step up and start producing.

That is strange how many Twins players’ names begin with either an “L” or an “R”!

yeah, right…

wrong park… Slowey P in the 9 hole

Walter Johnson says:

June 12th, 2009 at 10:43 am

Slowey could be the best No. 9 hitter we’ve had all year!

Walter Johnson says:

I’m using alot of exclamation marks today!

Might have to sneak out of work and go watch the game somewhere…

One of our local CR kids, Kellen Sweeney (brother of A’s OF Ryan Sweeney) is playing at the Perfect Game event at the Dome this afternoon. I’m in town on business but I may have to sneak down there to see his game. Thanks for the heads-up, LaVelle.

Crain gives up another game!!!! What does he have to do to disappear from this team? Three solid hits in the 9th. Wow! I wonder is Swarzak can pitch in the 9th, or at least hit for Punto!! UGGHHH!
