Twins expected to recall Alexi Casilla

Alexi Casilla homered in his first at-bat for Class AAA Rochester on Sunday, then was pulled from the game. Indications are that the Twins will announce after today’s game that Casilla is being recalled.

The Triple-A break coincides with MLB’s All-Star break. I guess the Twins could wait until Thursday to announce the move, but I expect Casilla to be with the Twins on Friday when they open a weekend series in Texas.

It’s going to be a busy morning in the clubhouse, so I’m not sure when I’ll get the lineups posted. Have something like 74 interviews to do today. I will Twitter from the clubhouse when I can.  Gardy, during his weekly radio show, said that Carlos Gomez will play.

Gardy said last night that Bobby Keppel has a sore hamstring, so they were down a reliever. Will check on him when I can. Kevin Slowey is expected to throw in the bullpen today to see how his sore wrist responds.

There was a Christian rock concert here after last night’s game. Slowey and R.A. Dickey addressed the crowd. Slowey told the crowd that his wrist might be something he’ll have to deal with the rest of the season. Will check on that, too.

Update:Slowey was unable to throw today and has been pushed back to playing catch on Wednesday. Anthony Swarzak will remain in the rotation for the time being. It messes things up for the Twins, who hoped to activate Slowey and move Swarzak to the bullpen.

The Twins will go to 12 pitchers after the break. Gardy will sit down with GM Bill Smith to figure out who comes up (Jesse Crain? Rob Delaney?)

I’m also getting some signals that Alexi Casilla will be back up after the All-Star break. It will be his last chance to show he can turn things around. With Casilla back, Nick Punto would move back to short.

Casilla’s missing mojo has set this lineup back significantly.

Sawarzak and Francisco Liriano are available out of the bullpen today.

Heard that the Twins are having trouble signing LSU hitter Blake Dean, and that he’s leaning towards returning to school.
