The pitching staff is falling apart

I read the press release announcing the signing of righthander Kyle Gibson real closely, to make sure the line, “…and will start on Thursday for the Twins against Texas.” wasn’t included.

The Twins could use a fresh and talented arm. Francisco Liriano who brain probably needs as much of a break as his tired arm, was placed on the 15-day disabled list after tonight’s game. Up comes righthander Philip Humber, who 7-7 with a 5.28 ERA at Rochester.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Liriano felt like he had nothing left in the tank. “We told him to say something if he didn’t feel right,” he said.

The Twins bullpen is worn out. Bobby Keppel’s 3.1 shutout innings were huge on Monday but it could have gotten ugly if he had been ineffective. The Twins will wait until today to announce a starter for Thursday (probably Swarzak) and Saturday (Humber? Manship? Duensing?)

This could be one hot road trip as the Twins try to compete with Humber, Duensing, Swarzak and Manship - all who have pitched more at Class AAA Rochester than in the majors this season.
