Twins try to sweep White Sox
Posted on September 23rd, 2009 – 6:45 PMBy La Velle
Sorry this is late. Had a minor emergency.
Signs continue to point toward Francisco Liriano starting on Sunday in Kansas City. My guess is that it will be official on Friday.
Denard Span looked and sounded like his old self today. He told manager Ron Gardenhire he’s available to pinch hit or be a late defensive substitute. Signs point to him returning to the starting lineup on Friday.
Funny stuff before the game. White Sox GM Kenny Williams met with the media and told them that his team will go back to taking infield before games, which very few teams do these days. I don’t know if more infield solves all the problems in the Windy City. But Williams is a very determined man….
There are some indications that one trait the Sox would like to have from the Twins is mental toughness. Is mental toughness a big edge for the Twins? At least they still have a shot at the postseason while the Sox played themselves out of the race. The Twins deserve some credit for not giving up.

Should be fun to watch the two aces duel.
“Sorry this is late. Had a minor emergency.”
i knew he ran into an old girl friend!!
No Morales??? Harris better produce!
Twins will win the division….the cover of Sports Illustrated for 9/28/90 is a shot of Comerica Park with the headline Detroit. That should be enough to jinx the Tiggies.
This was the first I’d seen that Time, Inc. bought a house in Detroit and is rotating journalists, photographers, bloggers, etc. in and out for all their magazines/holdings. That should be enough to spin Detroit into a further depression.
Sorry, should be for 9/28/09….oops
ggg….at my age it would be a young girlfriend.
I am usually a fan of Gardy, but where is Morales. He needs to be a DHing. Harris isn’t getting it done.
Cleveland loads the bases in the first 2 innings and has 1 run to show for it.
haha nice post GGG!!!
He has hit Mark Buehrle pretty well. That may be the reason.
Not bad enough the Tribe gives up four in the first but they’ve loaded the bases in each of the first two innings and come away with only one stinking run.
No matter how well they play the Twins maybe screwed by the schedule. Getting the only team interested in playing in September not in a race, KC.
And now it’s 6-1.
Liriano can’t be worse then Manship..can he?
Come on CLE
That bottom 1/3 of the lineup was so productive, Gardy’s going with it again. Is Morales in Gardy’s doghouse? Does Harris have killer #’s against Buehrle as well? Inquiring minds wanna know.
Nice of Cleveland to roll over.
Cleveland is terrible thats why, were not going to get any help from them
Nice to see somebody finally showed up… wobble
Harris (.259) at DH instead of Morales (.358). Shows how little I know about baseball. That’s why Gardenhire makes the big bucks.
Morales is .563 (9-for-16) with a .650 on-base percentage in five career games at U.S. Cellular Field. In eight career games against the White Sox he has hit .632 (12-for-19) and has had at least one hit in seven of those eight games.
Our media members would never dare ask Gardy why a player wasn’t in the lineup.
Harris almost cranked one last night. Otherwise he was pretty dismal.
Tribe fans must really be glad they “stole” Materson and only had to give the BoSox Victor Martinez.
Of the many ways there is a bias towards the NYY & BoSox in baseball the worst may be the fact that their prospects are by in large over hyped. They look good next to $25 mill a year guys. Just as the Twins (Johan deal with Mets. Yanks & B-town guys who were in minors or just up by in large have not shown to be studs), Cleveland (Victor Martinez).
On that line, think the Brewers wish they still had LaPorta and never got CC? No. Be careful what you wish for Billy when trading away high priced stars for unkowns. Not may many, as of late anyway, pan out.
Yea watching Detroit is kind of pointless (unless they manage to lose), even if we lose a game today it will be picked up somewhere else. It’s all going to come down to next weeks series.
LaPorta def has been a bust. Another prospect that is hyped up is Bucholz for the Red Sox and my opinion is not that high of him, but thats just me.
Camden there is a point to watching Detroit, if we go 3.5 back going into Detroit, that is tough, a 4 game sweep of the tigers in there park where they have an outstanding record would be pretty tough.
Yay gomez takes 2 pitches
All the Twins need to do is win all their remaining games….sure way into the playoffs.
I agree with some here, why Harris? Morales seems to me the better choice.
Duensing picking up where he left off
Terrible AB By young, put the ball on the right side you bum
That will rattle Buehrle.
GOOD AB, HARRIS!
Nice hit Harris.
Harris…………
Nice going by Harris!!! Twins up!
That’s for all you genius, hate Gardy lover out there!
Atta boy Brendan!
Gardenhire. Genius!
methinks that Harris is ok tonight…
Terrible AB By young, put the ball on the right side you bum
uh…there was one out already. I’m pretty sure ‘moving the runner up’ wasn’t anybody’s goal there.
Gotta love Gardy the 5th winningest coach since ‘02!
USAChief, You are correct my bad, thought there was 0 outs.
Good hitting by Harris.
Well, I’m looking pretty dumb right now. Way to go Gardy and Harris.
Holy arm.
Lets hope Harris gets a few more hits before we proclaim anything.
Maybe Delmon can be the Vikes QB after Favre
LOL @ Aaron. Wish I could have seen that but stupid DVR won’t allow it. ![]()
Walks will haunt ….
O-Cab has been a nice pick up
Sign him up for another year or two…
And sign him for a lifetime…
OC has not been as nice a pickup as you guys think. I too thought he was, but his stats say otherwise.
That being said, he is on fire right now and i hope they do bring him back on a two year deal.
Think1 ,
Your right we should have gotten Freddy Sanchez who has played like 20 games since arriving with the Giants.
OC has been a nice pickup, if your going to knock his glove, i dont want to hear it, he makes the plays he needs to make
Big spot for Cuddy
Draw a walk, Young.
Bring him back on the condition that he is not allowed to hit 2nd.
Swings at ball 2…..
sigh
Minntwins5,
Dont get me wrong, OC has been an ok pickup and i would like to see him and Pavano back next year, but OC hasnt been as good as a lot of you think…
In 47 games with the Twins, OC is hitting:
.251/.285/.399/.648
I sure hope the White Sox dont roll over like this against the Tigers this weekend.
I agree bring them both back, they will help stabilize the team a bit.
93 mph from Duensing. And pretty effortless looking at that.
CY Duensing
“I sure hope the White Sox dont roll over like this against the Tigers this weekend.”
Probably will. Twins’ chances are so slim.
Only 5 teams in the AL this year can say they made it to the last 10 games with a chance at post-season. At least the Twins are 1 of them.
That is acceptable, Think.
Is that enough for you?
Atta boy Harris!
Buehrle’s year may be over here quickly.
There’s talk they’re gonna shut him down.
I think Harris needs to call into XM more often….
although that was a horrible bunt….
Game Over for Buehrle…Wow
Yeah, a short start, Dick. But still like 65 pitches in 3.1 innings.
Maybe Ozzie will do us a favor.
Tigers are thrashing the Tribe, Twins will have to keep pace. Tigers have had a little resurgence, saw the Twins as the “objects in mirror are closer than they appear”
maybe the twins can handle Greinke this way
man, I would have hoped the Indians could have at least taken 1 game from the Tigers this week, the Sox arent going to help the Twins
Torres blows. Hopefully CY Duesning goes 7 or 8 and then they put in Gabino to give the pen a two day rest
5-0!!! what what!!
So has Duensing locked up a spot in the ‘10 rotation? Is this for real?
About the only thing that could make this better is if Cleveland pulled off the best comeback of the season. I can’t put the A’s is that spot because it still hurts too much!
I keep waiting for the Indians to come back.
I at least hope the Indians can win tomorrow, but that does not look good with Verlander going. I guess we will be 3 out going to KC.
The Sox just dont care anymore, do they? This is almost sad to see how they have thrown in the towel like this
They do play again tomorrow, we have an off day.
Yea Kirby, that blown 10 run lead to the As, and Nathans blown save against the Sox are looking especially painful right now
I’m worried about all the games with KC, they are playing as good or better than they did at the start of the season.
Not against us, Fair…But hope they hitch up the boot straps when they play Detoilet next week.
Hold on now, Steve…We have had our share of comebacks this year too. They have a way of balancing out.
Duensing hasn’t exactly been fooling anyone, but you can’t argue with the results so far.
DrDon, that would be nice. I have a feeling this may all come down to game 162 for all the marbles.
Exactly, USAFCheif,
which is why im worried about how long he can keep being CY Duesning
Jeebus, Punto, that’s the second game in a row you can’t throw the ball from second to first all the way in the air.
Nice dig again, Cuddyer.
Double plays are nice aren’t they? Especially when it is Konerko hitting into one and AJ also gets out!
Sorry, Buehrle with apparently only 57 pitches tonight.
Duensing leaving a few up a bit tonight, not quite as sharp.
All right.
Minimal damage.
That DP was huge.
Okay Twins put this one away and save some bullpen tonight!
im worried about how long he can keep being CY Duesning
How about into November?
Why’d he start that bum!
Big innning here for Duensing.
Fair Weather Fan formerly Known as Not So Original Kevin says,
It took me 15 minutes to stop crying after your post. The sting still hurts. Then again it hard to complain as much as last year about a loss or two considering how much crap baseball they played this season. Like Sept. series with the A’s and Indians for starters.
“which is why im worried about how long he can keep being CY Duesning”
So what’s wrong with what Bert’s been saying during Duensing’s last 2 starts?
He’s a 4-pitch pitcher with good movement, he knows how to add and subtract velocity, his mechanics are smooth, he’s got good control, he pitches within himself, he’s pitched a few innings this year, and — as I reported above — he hits 93 mph when he wants to.
And now — since he’s pitching in a pennant race and doing all of the above — he looks like the real deal to me.
If he were a Garza hotshot type, then you go he’s pitching on adrenaline or relying too much on a FB or pitching his arm off or the League will figure him out.
But Duensing has too many types of pitches (with the adding and subtracting) to be figured out. He pitches like a quintessetial pitcher.
My only question is his arm strength over a long season.
11-3, here comes the Tribe! ![]()
Can’t afford to have Gardy “try to let his guy get 5 for the win tonight”.
Too much at stake.
Another BIG DP.
So has Duensing locked up a spot in the ‘10 rotation? Is this for real?
so far the ‘10 rotation looks like (in no order) :
Baker
Slowey (his surgery is nothing to worry about)
Blackburn/Duensing/Liriano/Perkins/Bonser/Swarzak (about equal chances to make it)
I hope that Perkins finds a new home some other place via a trade. Other than that hard to tell about 2010…
No thanks to Cleveland as they are being fileted by the tiggers…go twins…have to win…make them sweat
thrylos98, think they have room for Pavano? Would he be worth trying to sign?
Do you think that Cabrera has some extra inner incentive to play better against the WSux? To me eyes it seems so…
Ozzie secretly wants us to win this game and the divison.
Unless he gets traded I think there is little doubt Blackie will be in the 2010 rotation. Even as a 500 pitcher he still has pitched well in big games the past two seasons and will have shown his bosses enough to be considered a 3rd or 4th guy.
Steve H,
They need another starter. Not sure that Pavano is the answer. My recent darling has been Alcides Escobar… I hope they sign him instead of Pavano, but you never know based on how the Twins operate
Gotta consider Pavano in there too for the rotation.
Thrylos,
What are you saying? The Brewers are not giving PT to Escobar so he can leave.
Pavano has under a 3.55 ERA with the Twins. Why would he not be the answer?
Escobar is a shortstop with Milwaukee correct?
Alcides Escobar is a SS, thrylos.
Kelvim Escobar, maybe?
They’ll try to sign Pavano and I think he wants to be here also.
Slowey, Duensing, Baker, Pavano, Blackburn.
No room for Liriano.
Yeah the ball was coming out of his hand great last night. But he’s still wild, and looked awfully discouraged in the dugout last night.
If he’s terrific, Duensing has options.
The White Sox are laying down like the dogs we knew they were. Unfortunately, they have six left with Detroit, so we can’t count on them for more than one win, if that. The Twins will probably have to do it head to head against Detroit. Tomorrow’s swing will be huge… two or three out.
mea culpa…
I meant Aroldis Chapman not Alcides Escobar (he is a SS).
As far as Pavano goes:
he is ok for a 3-4 pitcher. The Twins have lots of those and cheaper. Gotta look higher.
Ozzie will go after the Tigers. I can see a split in those 6 games, easy.
Decent pitch count for Duensing, he needs a good inning here
The Twins aren’t going to sign Aroldis Chapman, nor is it likely he’d help the rotation in 2010.
I’d like them to sign Harden.
Pavano has been a godsend, but he can go post a 4.75 ERA for someone else.
With M&M, Cuddy&Kube, why WOULDN’T Pavano want to stay?
Ya, I’ll even stay.
This isnt good…
Like I was saying, just call him Cy Duensing…….
![]()
So Liriano starts on sunday?
Not looking like the Sux are laying down here.
So much for the cruise control, bullpen saving night.
Ok time to get the pen cooking…
well, we should all be glad that the white sox are lying down or this game would be looking like trouble.
He’s done… Even though I am not really confident in Keppel
No to Harden. Re-sign Pavano to a 2-3 year deal. He’s been a nice #2 for the Twins.
Liriano
Baker
Slowey
Pavano
Blackburn
Only Ozzie laying down. He can’t field for Cabrera.
We’re gonna need more than a 1 run lead tonight for Nathan. The offense has to go on the offense.
i just don’t get it sometimes. duensings pitches have been way up for 3 innings, the sox are spanking the ball, and with as important as this game is…. gardentired can’t seem to see what is so obvious and get him out BEFORE the damage.only an inning late gardentired.
Why did they keep Keppel and not Dickey
Duensing was shaky starting in the 4th, should have never come out to throw a pitch in the 6th. To many cookies right down the plate.
Need some more runs! Must win tonight, Tigers are going to win tonight and tomorrow.
I’d like them to sign Harden
+1 on that.
crap, the game was such a blowout I left, now come back and they are only 1 run up? its over, the Sox come back to beat the Twins again in game 3 of a series on a Wednesday
Hindsight is 20/20. If Gardenhire takes him out after 5 he gets criticized for taking out a guy who has a low pitch count who has only given up 2 runs and putting extra strain on the bullpen.
“Why did they keep Keppel and not Dickey”
No difference.
You can whine either way they do it.
It’s a bitcher’s paradise.
I don’t think he gets criticized, Duensing is a rookie…
Agreed 200%, zwiefz
Got some crabby people on the blogs lately
Re-sign Pavano to a 2-3 year deal. He’s been a nice #2 for the Twins.
Liriano
Baker
Slowey
Pavano
Blackburn
Wait…you want to sign Pavano to a 3 year deal? To be a #2?
That in itself is crazy, but why did you then list him 4th?
Cuddyer with a less than productive at bat… maybe delmon can do something
Sorry, LaVelle, but I can never give professionals making that kind of money credit for not giving up. They better not ever give up. They’re playing baseball for a living, for goodness sake.
Got some crabby people on the blogs lately
Lately?
Nice Hit DY!
If Gardy had pulled the SP before the 5th inning every time he struggled, the bullpen would be toasted dog sh*t now, instead of the strength they have become this September,
It was in order.
Harden hardly ever stays healthy, and while he’s a nice thought, the Twins have a small crack that could turn into a ginormous hole. (Mauer)
MORALES….BOOOOOOO WHITE SOX FOR IBB!
Come on Tolbert, Please do something here.
DY>Gomez
IMO, it was OK to send Duensing out to start the 6th. But he hadn’t been fooling anyone for a while, and once the Cabrerror occured, with 2 RH hitters with power were due up, it was time to go get a RH reliever.
1 big hit is all it will take to put this thing away. Please let it happen baseball gods!
Wow, i’ve never seen a third stringer being IBB. LOL!
You have got to be kidding
G****mit TOLBERT!
ugh.
Tolbert…it’s 2-0. You’re not a power hitter.
Stupid.
It’s almost funny to say, but other than Cuddy right now, Punto is almost the guy you want up.
Tolbert swings on a 2-0 pitch with the bases loaded. What the….
He is!
Good AB so far
Great at bat for LNP!!!
Thank you #8!
The Puntz comes thru.
What just happened to Morales??!!
PUNTO!!!! Where the H*** have you been for the last 5 months
Big hit for little Nicky.
Thank you Punto!
thoughts on punto, anyone?
That’s a pretty big hit for Punto. Great AB! Tough, professional AB.
Punto is the worst player in MLB according to the STRIB blogs.
What an indictment of the Minnesota Education System!
Punto: Climb on my back, boys!
I think LNP has played much better after his move to second base…
I’m writing the following sentence for the first time this season. That was a great at-bat by Nick Punto
Thank you AJ!
There’s the offense on offense!
You guys are something else.
Harris is 2 for 2 = Gardenhire is the greatest manager ever.
Punto singles in two runs = Punto has had a great year for the Twins.
Total Team Effort …. this is when Twins baseball is fun to watch.

Yes, La, that was a great at bat.
“I’m writing the following sentence for the first time this season. That was a great at-bat by Nick Punto”.
Then you are just as tardy with that sentence, as you usually are with the lineups, LaVelle.
La Velle….Thank you. ![]()
After five months of crap, they were due for a hot streak like this, no?
No Walt. Gardy ph’s for Harris with Morales. Great move!
Punto has had a great year for the Twins.
Don’t think anybody said that, Walter.
But that was still a great AB.
The funny thing about that is Mauer was not involved
Double Punto’s salary. Immediately.
“Punto is the worst player in MLB according to the STRIB blogs.”
“He was…for the first 5 months”
He NEVER was, unless you were viewing batting stats only, from the perspective of a Minnesota gopher hole.
Rob,
We will probably here about Punto’s 4 year, 40 million dollar extension after the game
Punto HAS had a great September. Nobody can take that away from him.
Punto may retire after this year, since he has run out of tail, to battle off.
look. Cleveland scored two more runs.
sy, that is all some of the bloggers know about the game, is batting average.
lol sy i love it
Gopher holes are very useful….they are very warm in the winter. Just dont step in one.
Duensing must be hurt. He only struck out one today.

He only struck out one vs. the Kitties
“We will probably here about Punto’s 4 year, 40 million dollar extension after the game”
And his adoption proceedings being initiated by the Gardenhires.
very bad > worst player in MLB
1
this is cool, LEN communicates with us in real time as he is covering the game at Cellular Field
On the Twins website, it says Liriano WILL start Sunday
2
they’ve beaned span and gomez. we need payback!
At least Dye will be warmed up for Detroit…
Keppel is clearly tired.. Good effort from though
living dangerouly with the pitching selections………. sure hope it doesn’t bite us in the ass. after that single…. it was hook time… after all… it is keppel.
There is your payback, Stinky
my finger nails are getting way short now. if you are going to hit him… really hit him!
Keppel is garbage, can’t wait till he is in AAA next year for some other team
okay, there was the payback beaning! time was running out this season
would have been nice if we could have given mijares and nathan a night off…
They can have the night off tomorrow night.
It’s crunch time, ya use ‘em if ya need ‘em, vikel.
Remember how Smith and Gardy were so upset with Mijares at the start of the season? Without Mijares we are 10 games back and out of it. He has been an unsung hero.
It appeared on tv that Duensing got hit in the leg by that shot back up through the mound in the 4th (?) although not much was said of it at the time.Maybe he got stung and it got him out of his groove.
One last comment. Why all the continuing love for Liriano and Bonser? They are both washed up, I’d take Duensing in a heartbeat over those two stiffs.
I dont even know how someone with the slightest clue about baseball could even think Bonser could come up and help us. You mean to tell me you want to put him in a game after facing instructional league players?
Delmon 3-5. Yes! Vindication!
tolbert has had a couple of horrible games at the plate in chicago.
Hope that inning does not come back to bite them
Bremer “Good job by thornton getting out of a mess”
No D ick, that was the twins gift wrapping that inning.
Maybe he got stung and it got him out of his groove.
Bob, I actually thought that when they had that stoppage of play for the light outage
a lot of people seem to think the neshek will be just like he was too………. which i really doubt, especially the first year. look at “franchise”…..
Bonser could help us in an eating contest.
And may I inquire as to why is he all of a sudden our starting third baseman and Harris is again left to rot?
Nice and easy Nathan. A real boring 3 up and 3 down no drama inning would be great.
Come on Joe, I do not want any flashbacks to the last game at the dome with these fools.
Come on Joe… I do not want any flashbacks to the last game at the dome with these fools.
Beckham swung right into that pitch.
Everyday Joe serving up the excitement.
Nathan guarding the gates of hell.
HBP and WP??? This does not bode well.
lol i love aj, hes going to get tossed
that was a horrible call that went our way on that curve ball.
Can’t blame AJ too much on that pitch.
That was way outside.
Nathan got a gift strike on AJ. Then AJ really gives it to the u\mnp when he strikes out. Classic AJ!!!
Nathan get it over for pete’s sake.
now both ramirez and dye 3-4 tonight… and dye with 2 2run homers. nathen is turning into eddie……
Nathan better get this guy. don’t want to face dye with the bases loaded.
Nice sweep on the road for the Twins. Enjoy your day off tomorrow.
Dear Tribe: Show you have a heartbeat against the Tigers tomorrow. Win at least one game on your home turf!!
PPPHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWW
sheesh!
routine.
KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!
We should start calling him “Everyday Joe”.
punto, my hero and i know all you punto haters love him today….maybe he should be the twins 2b next year as long as he is the only weak link in a very solid lineup….as long as they dont go weak at 3rd and short also…..
DAMN, Nathan is done as a closer. I love the Twins, but Nathan in the playoffs, good hitting ballclubs will murder him. His stuff is not what it was and as a closer HE PITCHES AROUND PEOPLE. I cannot wait until we are rid of him, do not care about number of saves blah, blah, blah, this guy is definitely on the downside of his career.
WOOO! Sweep on the South side. When Konerko came up in the bottom of the 9th I was starting to have flashbacks to three weeks ago in the finale against the Sox at the Dome. Good win. Punto is coming up huge. Sure wish Cleveland could end its skid tomorrow. C’mon Tribe!
Nathan, with alot of help from the man in black, gets it done again! And the heartbeat continues.
Punto is finally having a good month and people are ready to annoint him a starter? Seriously? Where was he the first 5 months of the season?
Maybe if he would have done something we would be ahead of Detroit in the standings.
only 150 plus days til spring training……
I’m not too worried about Nathan. He’s had bumps in the road in the past and always came out of it before too long. We’re spoiled these days–do you remember the excitement that Guardado and Hawkins brought every game?
In other news, with Boston’s win, the Twins are now officially eliminated from wild card contention.
Nice production throughout the lineup tonight. I question some of Gardy’s moves, but Harris had a solid night along with Punto. Gardy brought Morales in and they IBB’d him, and he came around to score. Good to see them finding ways to win & alway nice to sweep Chicago, especially at the Cell.
As for Punto starting, I think he seems to struggle more when he’s “anointed” the starter out of spring training. He seems to do better “as a spark” off the bench or at least playing in a lesser role than an everyday starter.
Punto is finally having a good month and people are ready to annoint him a starter? Seriously? Where was he the first 5 months of the season?
Maybe if he would have done something we would be ahead of Detroit in the standings.
Settle down. No one here is begging for Punto bronze statue night. He’s starting because of the available options. Gardenhire isn’t just sitting there with a bench filled with all-star infielders. Let’s see Punto, Tolbert, Harris, Casilla, and Buscher… rotate at will. He’s also hitting .314 this month so cut him just an ounce of slack.
Does it negate his brutal first 5 months? Absolutely not… but for now, all I care about is winning games and we are doing just that. Relax and enjoy it.
can these twins run the table?

can these twins run the table?
I dont know, but it will be fun to watch and find out
baker, pavano, duensing, blackburn, liriano. could be worse.
“tolbert has had a couple of horrible games at the plate in chicago.”
Wrong, h2oface. First two games were more than okay.
“a lot of people seem to think the neshek will be just like he was too………. which i really doubt, especially the first year. look at “franchise”…..”
Wrong again, water face. Liriano’s ERA last year was 3.91.
romer takin’ it to waterface.
LOL
“nathen is turning into eddie……”
That stuff on your face is seeping into your brain, h2oface.
And learn how to spell…….
“romer takin’ it to waterface.”
that is too funny!
““romer takin’ it to waterface.”
that is too funny!”
Twins have such a slim chance of getting to post season. Who needs people blasting players at this point.
And then to do it falsely is too much.
Tired of fake Twins fans.
feels pretty good to be a twins fan tonight, romer.
there are no twins players i dislike (i’m kinda neutral on maybe two or three). a very likable team.
I agree, LEN. There are several points during this season when the Twins could have “rolled over and died, but didn’t.
That’s what I call mental toughness. Credit to the players, and everyone involved. Go Twins!
Can the Twins run the table?
I doubt it. However, if they win their next 7 games, they will have at a minimum a 1 game leading heading into the final series, more depending on how Detroit does in their four non twin games.
Of course, that would mean a 10-0 road trip, beating Buerhle, Greinke, a d Verlander.
Who was it who said he hoped the Twins don’t make the playoffs because they don’t deserve it and it would convince Bill Smith to stand pat? That was wrong on many levels. Mainly, the Twins have been playing like they deserve it. Oh, and the whole “anything can happen in a short series” thing, too…
Another nerve wracking win…but like I said after the last win, at this point in the season I don’t care if it’s 8-0, 8-6, or 100-2….just as long as the Twins are the ones with more runs than the other team.
Great to see EVERYBODY contributing to wins over the last three games though. At least EVERYBODY in the lineup. Pitching staff had a tough go the last few nights, so a much-needed night off and hopefully an offense that is clicking can help them through this bit of a hump and go strong into the Tigers series.
Still within reach. Shocked that the Twins could struggle as much as they did and still be playing meaningful games this late in the season.
Harris is the MAN……..DH him always.
KC is going to be the Twins down fall.
KC will take at least 2 of 3 from the Twins @ KC and probably the same in Minn.
Sorry Twins fans, that’s the way it is.
And remember, I would trade Morneau…..
Agreed………
No time to give up now. A good combination of the Twins being red-hot and the Tigers being ice-cold is a good thing.
Go Twins!
JC Smith = Biggest troll on all of the blogs. Good job, JC, and congratulations.
sheesh… thats the first lead Cleveland has seen in 70 INNINGS. That has got to be demoralizing.
…and they promptly give it right back.
Wonder if Cleveland will lose 100 games. It’ll be close. But up next they host Baltimore, and then Chicago — before finishing with 4 in Boston.
They’ve lost 91 with 9 left and no days off.
Oops, they have 10 left. Can they take 2 out of 3 from Baltimore.
BIG DRAMA!
That matchup really gets my heart a pumping and my corpuscles jumping, romer.
Happy Birthday La Velle!
