Minimalist beauty

Although many of the modern material and products we’ve been searching for fall into one of two major camps, the really hard to find or the ridiculously expensive. Kitchen faucets and sinks are however an area where modern minimalism has become a growing trend, making the hardest part choosing between all the great options.

I’ve learned from personal experience that you don’t want to try and save a few dollars when it comes to selecting a kitchen faucet. Fortunately I found some incredibly high quality, modern design faucets from the Germany company Grohe. these faucets live up to the German reputation for impeccable design and engineering, with their simple clean lines and precision temperature controls. There were two great looking faucets that really felt like they fit well with our kitchen design the Minta and the Essence. Ultimately the decision came down to some small nuances of the design as we selected the Minta Single Spray pullout faucet.

When we remodeled our kitchen at our last home we had selected a beautiful a stainless steel sink. The shine of the sink contrasted so nicely with the color of our granite counter tops —for at least the first few days. However, once we used the sink we started to notice every little droplet from spayed water and tiny little scratches caused by the occasional dropped fork. This experience definitely set us on a path to look for an alternative to stainless steel. I was completely excited when I found these great looking composite sinks from a company called Astracast. A black composite material called Metallic ROK® in a model called Geo. The sinks sleek black finish is complemented by some cool features like a square drain plug and self rimming edge.

Both the faucet and sinks we’ve selected are not exactly the products that you find in your local home improvement center. I found ours through a local rep at Rakieten Sales who carries an extensive line of decorative fixtures. I’ve ordered both of them and can’t wait to see them installed once they arrive.

The faucet reminds me very much of Arne Jacobsen’s VOLA faucets. http://www.vola.com/products/default.asp?lId=1&id=4486

But the Minta is even better with its pullout spray. Again - good choice, Jason.
