High Rise

The second floor walls are all but complete and the building now awaits the placement of the roof panels. Tuesday’s heavy rain cut the work day extremely short but the crew more than made up for the lost time with what they accomplished today. The entire structure seems much larger than I had imagined but some of this is a result of the lack of additional items in the surrounding as well the as uniformity of its OSB skin. Once we start to integrate the various exterior materials and break up the lines of the building with various materials it should definitely bring the scale back to reality and us one more step closer to moving in.

Most of the walls went up on Monday but the heavy rain
prevented much further progress on Tuesday.

looking out to what will be our patio from the kitchen.

A close up of the fasteners that attach the SIPs wall sections
at each corner. The fasteners are about 1 1/2″ in diameter.

The framing crew placed the remaining exterior wall panels
and then in the last 2 hrs they completed the stick framing
of all the interior walls. Wow!

From across the pond looking at the main tower.

A view from the back looking across at the office.

Do the neighbors already stop and stare at your “strange” structure? Ours did when our house went up. The reactions were either very pro or very con, nothing in between. Everybody had an opinion about it.
Do you get some feedback?
Connie
The neighbor children were sort of our first clue that they were aware our house was different. I can’t say that I’ve heard any really negative feedback from the neighbors (that’s not saying that it’s out there) but so far everyone has been very friendly and welcoming. Since we’re located on a dead end it’s pretty clear however that we get a lot a people who come to look. Most of the ones I talk to want to know a little more about the SIPs panels. When I tell them there are no studs in the walls except at the corners, it generates some interesting looks.
