Progress by the pound

This week we have had so many contractors on site that it’s hard to find one single area to focus on, as progress seems to be happening everywhere, daily. So here are yesterdays highlights.

The framing crew from Berget got the house wrap on and are ready to start siding early next week.

The roofing crew from Fridley Roofing attached the edging to cap off the roof (they’re back today to put in the scupper for the roof, off the back office.

The installers from Accurate Dorwin (Above and Beyond Construction) installed the last two pieces of glass.

Chris from KG Electric got us lighting in the downstairs as well as juice running to most of the outlets. I love his attention to detail, he added some little extra dimmer features to the lights in the dining room and kitchen and where we have put lights to feature art work.

The guys from Eastvold Custom Woodwork were on site with all the cabinet boxes and even got a portion of the kitchen set.

Our Concrete and Tile Guys from Lutz showed up and poured the shower pan and put the backer board around the shower and tub. They’ll be back Saturday to start laying some tile. These guys my be the cleanest crew of workers I’ve ever met. I swear they actually clean up while they work — don’t ask me how they do it.

However, Mick Peabody from Hammond Window and Door gets the Subcontractor/Vendor of the Week Award. After the company, who was originally going to do the flooring, said they couldn’t get to it for 3 to 4 weeks (we needed it here by the weekend as originally agreed upon). Mick turned 100 sheets of plywood, perfectly cut on a laser cutting machine in a day. Thanks Mick!

Yesterday I (with the help of my parents) spent the evening putting a skin of birch plywood on the ceiling between the exposed trusses in the living room. We had debated doing this but the 20days of rain damaged some of the surface and then it took some abuse during sheetrocking, taping and mudding.

The House wrap changes the look of the building and makes it inhabitable.

The final piece of glass goes in at the top of the stairwell. I can’t believe how much light this brings into the whole house.

The Guys from Eastvold set the first cabinet.

We went with a gray surface material over Formaldehyde Free boxes. They Also can do Sorgum and Wheatboard but it’s a bit pricer but probably the greenest option out there.

Mick Peabody delivered the flooring late Friday afternoon. He found premium cabinet grade plywood and then had it cut on a laser cutting machine to ensure they were perfectly square.

Wow. It’s really coming along! It’s great to see all pictures. It really helps to put the whole project and all your design decisions in context. Can’t wait to see a pic after the siding goes on!

Mick Peabody? Is that the same Mick Peabody as your old college roommate?

Yep my former college roommate.
It is crazy how paths cross again. I ran into him at the home and garden show this past spring and fortunately he was able to help us out with the flooring when we were in a bind.
