The finish line in sight

I remember seeing some famous footage (from an Olympic Marathon I believe) where the leader enters the stadium staggering from exhaustion, within just a few feet of the finish line he collapses to the ground. He rises again to continue forward, yet he is only able to manage getting to his hands and knees, where he crawls to his goal. This is, the perfect analogy to describe just how we feel — our goal is in sight, we’ve run out of energy but our will to reach our final goal is so strong that we just keep moving forward even if it means crawling.
For the past year and a half this project has been the focus of our lives. — designing, planning, budgeting and building. I can only imagine that in the next few weeks our house is going to be completed. Finished. Done. We’ll peal back the red paper covering our wood floors and stairs, sweep up the living room, clean the bathrooms of dust and debris and begin carrying in our belongings.
We had sold much of our furniture before we left our former home, partially because it didn’t fit the style of our new home and partially so we didn’t need to pay to have it stored. As a result we are now in the need to add a few pieces here and there. For the most part we have held off making any of these purchases until we are actually in the space and can get a feel for what each room is calling for. I can not tell you how much I am looking forward to that being the extent of the decision making. Not only is that the fun side of building a new home but it’s also means that everyone else is out of the picture. Don’t get me wrong, we have been blessed with a caring General Contractor (Benedict and Associates) and so many great sub-contractors but it would be so nice to think fondly of what they have done, instead of what is left for them to do.
