Super toilet

I can only recall one time in m adult life that I felt a bit of apprehension about using the toilet. It was 1992 and I had to use the the restroom in the train station in St. Petersburg, Russia. The toilet was constructed of two stacks of bricks, about two feet in the air on each side of pipe in the floor. If this wasn’t disconcerting enough their was the old woman seated just a few feet away tearing scraps of paper into long strips to sell to you when needed.

The other evening when I returned from work I found that our TOTO Washlet had been installed on our toilet seat. After looking at the remote control that comes with it I have to admit I was a bit nervous to give it a try. Our oldest son however had none of this hesitation and put it to the test right away. After hearing his rather joyful reaction I can only say that I was actually feeling a bit more nervous curiosity. What I can tell you is that it certainly meets up to the the hype that it has received recently from numerous celebrities and I would personally recommend it. I know after this post that my friend Rick is going to be dying to come over and give it a try.

The Washlet provides a sterilized stream of warm water as a cleaning method as an alternative to toilet paper. It also has an energy saver feature on it so that you can turn the heating element off when you’re going to be away.

Hey Jason,

I know that I have given you a bit of good natured ribbing regarding your Washlet, but you must understand that Toto’s unique reading room chair has been a bit of a longstanding (or should I say sitting) joke among the people I work with. I am sure it is a very…interesting device to use. I must admit that I am a wee (pun intended) bit intimidated by the idea of test driving said device. Being an otherwise adventurous individual that may seem a bit strange, but let’s face it, the concepts imposed by the Washlet are, shall we say somewhat frightening.
I am very much looking forward to seeing you cool house, but I plan to be fairly well starved and very dehydrated when I get there!

Congrats on being so close to completion. The house is looking fabulous!

honestly this is one of the coolest things in the house from a technology stand point. I only wished I would have put them in all the bathrooms.

How do you, um, dry after it works?

Pamela,

Built in air dryer. It also has a smart system built into it that allows it to learn the use patterns and optimizes it’s energy consumption.

My husband (an Italian) constantly laments the lack of bidets here in the States. I wish we weren’t renting, I’d surprise him with the installation of one of these babies!

Hi,

I know this is off topic, but is cement fiber board a green product?

Totos are awesome! We’ve had ours for 3 1/2 years and are never getting another brand toilet/washlet again. Kudos for putting one in.

Dan,

Yes, Almost all cement board is made with a mixture of fly ash, which is a waste product of coal burning power plants. Fly ash used to be released into the atmosphere but regulations now require it to be captured and stored (and it’s in great abundance — unfortunately). The use of fly ash limits the need for additional portland cement in the mixture resulting in less manufacturing waste and energy consumption as well.

Michael,

I’m glad to hear you are so pleased with your TOTO toilets. I love the way they look and perform so far but it’s always nice to hear someone else endorse them.
