Back in business.

Our office has for some reason or another been the unlucky space of our house. An early change in elevation on the plans resulted in the first set of floor trusses being to tall to align with the stairs. We caught this early and it was corrected by using a SIPs panel for the flooring. However this resulted in the original ledger board and steel support being exposed in the room. At first we didn’t think this would be an issue but the steel seemed to bring the cold in and created some small issues with condensation when it met with the warm air of the house. We loved the look of the concrete but it was looking like we were going to have to make a change to the wall and more than likely that meant some additional insulation that would cover it up. However our GC (Benedict and Associates), concrete company (Plummer Concrete) and Stacy came up with a solution that worked to not only resolved the issue in the room but as well allow us to keep the look of the concrete that we liked. We covered the entire wall with rigid insulation and then covered that with sheets of Hardiboard siding. Stacy designed a grid pattern turning the sheets horizontally and using the unprimed side of the Hardiboard (which features a random line pattern, I am assuming from the result of the fabrication process) as the finished side. Corey from Benedict and Associates did the install himself, using oversized fasteners laid out in a grid pattern. What resulted was a super cool finish that in this area of the house I actually like better than the original concrete. With this issue resolved we were back in business and Stacy was able to get her computer up and running and start to set her office up.

A great look with hardiboard siding that anyone who wanted a little taste of industrial modern in their house could do.

With the dirty work done in the house done, the track doors that we waited forever for the vendor (name with held to protect the innocent) to deliver the hardware on were finally installed, completing the office.
