J,

The wiring was something that was somewhat of an after thought for us, but it was also a lot more complex for our home than a traditional stick framed home. Because our exterior walls are SIPs panels, and filled with solid insulation from the moment they are installed, running wiring is much more complex and time consuming. We did have cable run to various location in the house and for the most part that isn't an issue. We do need to run a new line in one location because we got a micro-crimp in one of the lines that has intermittently effected the signal.

However, I don't know that good quality wireless is that far off either. We run wi-fi signal throughout our home and get great sound out of the speakers attached to our computers so I don't know that a wireless router system from your computer, TV or stereo to your speakers is that far off.

Not to be negative, but I am little surprised that you didn't plan out the low-voltage part of your home.

The cost of high quality 12awg CL2 4 conductor speaker wire is about .50 a foot.

2" conduit flex tubes to house your video cables for on-wall flat screens are under $1 a foot.

I outfitted the speaker cabling in my home for 20 in-ceiling speakers (10 zones) and ran conduit for six flat screens with on wall installation for under $1500 installed.

That being said. I would consider looking into fishing audio and video cables thru the walls. Good quality wireless (not including the power cord) speakers are not in the near future.

A high end sound bar might be your best choice.

David,

This is very interesting, thanks for sharing the local resource. I'm going to check it out more and see if it's an option.

Although not wireless, check out the home theater stuff from http://www.magnepan.com/. I bought a pair of MG 12 stereo speakers from Audio Perfection in the Twin Cities 10 yrs ago, and they have the most transparent sound. Instead of woofers/tweeters, they are a long piece of Mylar with magnets...the whole sheet vibrates. Patented. They come in white/gray/black. I have no affiliation with them, btw.

And, they are made in White Bear Lake, MN!
