What a deal: This one-column ad, magnified here to enhance readability, appeared in the Minneapolis Star. Imagine paying a buck to witness future legends in their prime at Dayton’s eighth-floor auditorium in Minneapolis. Are you among the now-graying music fans who braved clouds of perfume and aisle after aisle of hats, dress shirts and shoes to see the Yardbirds or Simon and Garfunkel in July 1966? What do you remember from the shows? Kick yourself if you threw away the ticket stub. A 1965 Yardbirds stub was listed on eBay last month for $125. |

I remember the Yardbirds’ concert very well. I was attending the Minnesota School of Business which was right across the street from Daytons on 7th Street. I went to school in the morning and my girlfriend and I ran over at noon for the concert. The concert was loud, full of energy and oh that magic sound of the English explosion! I loved it!
I didn’t attend the concert (duh!) but remember hearing the song “Over,Under, Sideways, Down” while riding the escalator in Daytons. But I do have a many concert tickets framed with a 45 of the Yardbird’s song “Jeff’s Boogie” in the center.
