Hi - I am looking for a copy of an obituary or any old articles you may have from 1900 and before about Walter S Benton. He lived in Minneapolis in the late 1800s and I believe made his money in the lumber and linseed oil business. Please let me know you have any records on him.

Thanks,
Connie Sterner

Wow! They had the "100 year storm" again...108 years later. All these hurricanes start over the continent of Africa when the Sahara heat and the Sahel's cooler temperatures collide. If we can put a man on the moon, we could irrigate part of the Sahara to create a cooler ecosystem and perhaps lessen the strength of these hurricanes that cause so much loss of life and property.

Of course after I throw on "the old Wranglers" my dog spooner and I like to sit down and watch Walker Texas Ranger. We like to see what sort of new adventure Chuck Norris will get into next.

I hate Texas. I think Texas is weak and that accent turns me ill. I do say though that sometimes I like to wear spurs, a 10 gallon hat and overly tight blue jeans (wranglers of course).

Of course, what made the devastation so complete was a combination of the severity of the storm (Cat 4 by most estimates), the nature of 1900 infrastructure and buildings, and the lack of reliable warnings at that time. There is an excellent book by Erik Larson entitled "Isaac's Storm" that gives a fascinating account of the leadup to the storm, the storm itself, and its aftermath. I highly recommend it.

This is great for those of us that can remember some of the old days. Would like to see some photos of the old Excelsior Amusement Park, including the boat that used to carry passengers from the park to view the lake sights.

I really enjoy the articles of "long ago."
We have moved from Minneapolis, but I read the Star Tribune everyday. Keep printing Yesterday's News.
