I LOVE spelling. What with the advent of PDAs and other electronic texting devices (cell phones to name a big one!) it seems like people these days don't take to heart the correct spelling of words. It bugs me! Once in a Target there was an end cap display that read "prices better then advertised" -- I pointed out the misspelled word and got the deer in the headlights look. It is "THAN", not "THEN" and of course they didn't change it.

Ha! This is a flashback, I was our school's rep to the city bee in 1972! I washed out almost instantaneously in the second round. I remember distinctly the kids just before me got "kitchenette" (no problem) and "diorama" (again, I was psyched, this would be a piece of cake). I was promptly presented with a request to spell the word for a small strummed Hawaian instrument. Wha? Kitchenette, Diorama, and I get thrown something Polynesian? I don't think Ukulele was ever spelled with so many vowels splattered about randomly in a sinking gasp for air....Thanks for the memories!

Another wonderful flashback. I made it to a regional meet when I was in sixth grade. I flubbed out during the first round on "weekly". I was so nervous that I missed listening to the definition and spelled it W-E-A-K-L-Y. Perhaps my subconscious was trying to tell me something about how I felt that evening.
