“Attempting to kiss a woman” — a euphemism, perhaps? — was a serious crime in the early 1900s:

NEW YORK, Aug. 8. – Sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for attempting to kiss a woman and suffering from an incurable disease, Mike Conroy yesterday jumped from a third story window of the Brooklyn court of special sessions, to the sidewalk and sustained a fracture of the skull and internal injuries which will probably cause his death.

For two months Conroy has been making love to a Brooklyn woman and his attentions caused her to have him arrested yesterday.
