New American Idol Rankings, Part 2
Posted on April 27th, 2006 – 6:41 AMBy Randy A. Salas
This is Randy Salas again, and my rankings posted before this week’s shows have changed little now that they’re over.
I had Kellie Pickler in last place, and she was voted off.
Paris Bennett should be next. Her rendition of “The Way We Huh-Were” this week hasn’t changed my opinion of her.
I’m going to switch Taylor Hicks’ and Elliott Yamin’s positions, even though Hicks is the only contestant who has never finished among the bottom vote-getters. Hicks has been making poor song choices and failing to deliver in his performances, while Yamin has finally ramped things up in recent weeks.
It’s still a toss-up between Chris Daughtry and Katharine McPhee for the top spot, but I’ll keep them as I had them for now. Daughtry was clearly the best performer last week, but McPhee was still excellent (no matter what the judges thought). Besides, she looks much better in a low-cut yellow dress.
1) Katharine McPhee
2) Chris Daughtry
3) Elliott Yamin
4) Taylor Hicks
5) Paris Bennett

glad to see elliott yamin stepping it up - he’s proven himself as the best vocalist on the show since he sang moody’s mood for love in the top 24. unfortunately his performance aspect is still lacking a bit.
still think taylor hicks is going to win it all - his fanbase is huge (though last night was a surprise!) and the producer says they’re doing an elvis presley week, which is perfect for him.
Rick, I’ve been pining for Taylor Hicks to do Elvis ever since he first appeared. I’d love to see him do In The Ghetto, Suspicious Minds or Kentucky Rain. Unfortunately, he’d probably do something like Jailhouse Rock.
Randy, Your ranking of the final five is right on the money. Next week each
contestant will be singing 2 songs:
One from the year they were born and one from this weeks top 10 on the Billboard charts. It should be interesting.
Taylor Hicks is over-rated. His style covers lots of bum notes. The real talent here is Daughtry, though too many viewers don’t appreciate his genre. He’s the only one of this bunch with a large career ahead of him.
Darren, you are *totally* off beat on this one! Taylor Hicks will be a sensation following Idol, whereas Daughtry is a joke with no further prospects.
