Death Cab for Cutie~
What the heck are they doing on this list? You throw out a loose and disfavorable term like ‘emo’, quote another critic (probably out of context)and that is your great original thought justifying putting them in with the likes of these other bands? I saw DCFC play the old fox fire 6 or 7 years ago and afterwards felt I was part of something special…and that continues through every show I’ve seen since. Gibbard writes music from the heart, whether its DCFC or The Postal Service, relatable lyrics that actually mean something.
Transatlanticism…Sussudio…not sure I’m buying into that one. I’m surprised you did.
1. Anyone named ‘Simpson’
2. Staind
3. Goo Goo Dolls
4. Sugar Ray (Thank God they are officially washed up and gone)
5. Smashmouth (remember them?)
6. Christina Aguilera
7. Britney Spears
8. Nickelback
9. Clay Aiken
10. That guy that just won ‘American Idol’
Jon,
I really appreciated your article for once. You couldn’t be more right with the comments of each artist. Now, hopefully people read the list and re-read the line on Nickelback ten times until they understood.
Peace,
Josh
Carrie Underwood. Come on….from American Idol to all these awards the first year out…she’s got to pay some dues before I give her any credence. She’s pretty and can sing, not a lot of charisma, and a good role model for young women….except she’s just now lost a lot of weight because she’s been ‘working out’, but pay some dues…and then respect.

Music snobs may want to kill me, but I find the Flaming Lips to be ridiculously overrated. I’ve seen them at least five times in the last three years, in small clubs and at huge festivals. Their stage show has been virtually identical every time. They’re obviously more original than cookie-cutter pop acts (although I disagree with Bream on Kelly Clarkson, she’s getting better and better) and hacks like Nickelback (please…did he even have to include them on this list? They’re a joke), but the Lips need to stop patting themselves on the back and release something edgy like “The Soft Bulletin” was a few years ago. They’re spinning their wheels as much as Radiohead.
Prince. Same old suggestive lyrics that Jr. High kids can giggle over. Boring funk/soul riffs that still sound like disco. (a style of music that admits it was just about a formaula to sell records.) And the “seductive” stage persona? More like some guy who never had a date in high school and his idea of trying to be sexy. Grow up.
You forgot Match Box 20
I would have to agree with Mr. Lewis re: The Flaming Lips. They certainly have an original sound, but different does not always mean good. I might watch them when I go to Lollapalooza in August, and maybe their live show can bring some excitement…The Arctic Monkeys are the most overrated band today in my opinion. I think their album is just OK, but maybe I just have to listen to it more for it to grow on me. I’m just stunned that they have achieved this “God-like” status in the UK. For their debut to be compared to Oasis’ “Definitely Maybe” is pretty ridiculous.
1.Garth Brooks:Never have understood his popularity.
2.Eminem:Insert any rappers’ name here.

2.Eminem:Insert any rappers’ name here.
3.Dixie Chicks:Their ticket sales are dragging. That would be a good thing.
4.Prince:I agree with James Sorby.
5.Macy Gray:Dreadful voice.
6.Bob Dylan:His guitar & harmonica skills are average,his songs are too long,& he can’t sing.Other than that,I’m a huge fan.
7.Elvis Costello:Crtics have always raved over him,for some odd reason.
8.Lady Bianca:She may be Bianca,but she’s no lady.
9.Limp Bizkit:Just the fact that they exist irritates me.
10.Jon Bream,I can’t believe you had the wonderful Mariah Carey on your list. Then again,I never have respected your opinions,so why should now be different.
1. Metallica - Old stuff ruled be even that was overrated.
2. Nickelback - Everytime I hear about their photograph it makes me want to ralph.
3. James Blunt - What rock did this guy crawl out from under. I don’t like to even use the word beautiful anymore because of this douche.
4. Goo Goo Dolls - I have nothing good or bad to say about this except that they are very overrated.
5. All rap artists - Take a simple beat with a catchy groove, add some lyric about how great it is to be rich and you to can be a rap star. Gold teeth help and any affliation with a gang really helps.
6. American Idol = American Doops/ I am so glad they brought into the mainstream the popularity contests they made High School so darn fun.
