Do you buy the Tapes ‘N Tapes buzz?

We’re curious how many of our readers already own “The Loon,” which has been available in local stores since late last year. If you do have it, do you really think it’s as good as the bloggers and some critics are saying it is? Does Tapes ‘N Tapes deserve to be the biggest buzz band in town since Slug was still rapping about Lucy? Thanks.

I saw their show in Denver, and bought a few of their CD’s for freinds, etc -

I saw them about 1 1/2 year ago, and they have really grown musically - I mean they blew me away.

That little drummer boy, Jeremy - Savant. Simply incredible and this band delivers ! Well worth the purchase and it will be interesting to see how far they go…

They’re good. I like some of their less-folksy tunes better, like Just Drums.

I saw them open for Vicious Vicious and came out of the show with another local band to rave about, which was cool. The people I brought with me were pleasantly surprised as well.

Are they worthy of such buzz? Sure.

Am I a bit turned off by it? Yes.

I first bought “The Loon” in January. I saw them at the Fine Line and thought they were decent. My issue (and I think a lot of other Mpls scenesters agree) is that there are about half a dozen other local bands that deserve this attention more than they do. Not to take away from their muscianship or marketability, but of all the bands I would like people in other parts of the country to rave about, they are not near the top of that list.

I think there’s a little ‘they don’t deserve success’ because they didn’t slug it out here for years before people caught on. But that’s both the good and bad about the Internet. Bands can get noticed and be talked about faster than ever, however, it’s usually one or two sites which create the buzz, and basically dictate what’s cool and what isn’t.

I love The Loon. And if all the buzz sells more copies, good for them. If you’re tired of the buzz, turn off your computer and cancel your magazine subscriptions and just listen to the dang CD.

It won’t make my top ten of the year but it’s pretty good.

I saw Tapes n Tapes at the Bridge Clubs cd release party in May. Both bands were awesome! Tapes n Tapes are so much better live. The cd doesn’t bring the energy.
Kudos for them though. Now maybe other mpls bands will get some national attention.

listened to it, didn’t get into it. agree with Nick, there are many, many more bands that are more deserving of the attention

There are so many other better local bands than Tapes . . . i thought the mpls music scene was smarter than to fall for a scheme like this!

I’d say this is the most over-rated band that I’ve seen since Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy took over MTV.

There are far better indi-rock bands in this town then Tapes n Tapes.

By far, most over-rated band of ‘06.
